They haven't even kept up with inflation but some how think this won't have a negative impact?

After some changes to my department and a very challenging couple of years, I’ve started looking to return to the private sector and I’ve just been given an offer that I am going to take.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to hopefully be in a better environment with greater potential to my career but I’m honestly pretty scared of the change. The gov is challenging right now but the private sector seems imperiled too.

So my question is, for folks who voluntarily resigned/DRPed etc, how are you doing? Do you regret leaving? Thanks everyone.

Maybe I need to be talked off the ledge, but I'm considering quitting my federal job. I used to love it. But more and more I dread coming into work. I have used all my leave to get away from the office.
Without getting into specifics, I also had a pretty bad experience with my high up leadership. They made some promises about my position and of course did not follow through.
I also have some coworkers that are pretty awful to work with.
Between all of that and everything happening to the federal government this year, I really considered just leaving outright. I am depressed, stressed, and have migraines daily now.

I am a retired disabled vet, so I have 90% coming in monthly from disability. I also will get my retirement when I'm of age from the military.

I have 15 years here at my position. I have nothing lined up after this just gigs I could do: Instacart, dog walking etc.
I'm also currently in my masters degree.

Am I being crazy right now?

After many years of a hybrid schedule, where I use the same set up for personal use as I do for work, I messed up and left a personal usb drive plugged into my dongle when attaching my work laptop🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. A warning popped up a few times but I didn’t process it as I was in a meeting with a shared screen an legit thought it was the presenters warning. The usb is actually password locked. Is there any way IT/cyber security would have been able to access the USB without the password?

My firm does a number of tax opinions and some controversy work and the attorneys we have dealt with lately are inconceivably incompetent. To the point where I'm unsure if they're ever read a tax code section in their life. The Revenue Agents still seem qualified as ever, as do Appeals Officers. What gives? Does anybody have any data on what percent of their LB&I attorneys they lost?

I was previously employed by a federal agency and was terminated during my probationary period under 5 CFR §315.804.

The termination was based on alleged conduct/performance issues, and the agency stated that I had failed to demonstrate the fitness or qualifications for continued federal service.

The termination letter does not mention OPM, 5 CFR Part 731, suitability action, debarment, or any government-wide ban from federal employment.

I’m trying to understand what this means for my ability to apply to other federal agencies.

Does a probationary termination under §315.804 automatically affect eligibility for future federal employment?

Is this different from receiving a formal OPM suitability determination or debarment?

Would the former agency normally report this type of termination to OPM for suitability purposes?

How would I find out whether OPM has any restriction or suitability action on my record?

If there is no government-wide restriction, can I continue applying for federal positions?

I work in a small office with about 20 people and we have two people, the manager and a bargaining unit employee, who sit at their desk and vape. They do this pretty openly. Have the laws changed and we can now vape at our desk? I'm new to the office, came from another office, and every time I catch them they're very startled and they immediately try to hide it but I found out that other employees know about it. Has something changed about the federal workplace and I have missed it?

Day one in the books, and the House has barely returned to Washington, the Republican majority is already struggling to govern itself, and Johnson is under pressure to adjourn the House early through Election Day. At this point, the Speaker’s governing philosophy appears to be since Congress can’t function, simply reduce its operating hours. All the while they collect their checks, fail to pass any meaningful legislation, or provide even the appearance of oversight.

Bold strategy, Mr. Speaker. When you’re incapable of leading, apparently the next best thing is making sure nobody is around long enough to notice.

I received this notice, which says my application wasn't even reviewed. It's odd because I spoke to the HR point of contact for an identical posting and they told me I was rated as qualified but not referred due to preferred candidates. This seems to have to do with the new assessments.

I have three questions:

1) Since my application was not even reviewed, if they go through this cert and don't hire anyone, is there any chance they will move down the list? Again, I was found qualified on a an identical posting

2) If the hiring committee wants an interview, can they use schedule A, or are they prevented from doing so since there was no review. Can they ask for a non-competitive cert?

3) Is there any way to have HR at least review this and find me qualified? I know my score on the assessment was three points lower than the "best possible candidates"

Yes, I've reached out to HR but they aren't very responsive these days.

I know ... But look, they've already dismantled much of the federal government as it is - except for the beloved military of course - so let's just finish the job. The American people can then decide for themselves whether feds are valuable and worth fighting for. I'm talking no TSA, no SSA, no CDC, no FDA, ... Shut it down!

Can management appoint a current federal employee to a position at the next GS grade without the employee applying or competing for it?

I'm not talking about a normal career-ladder promotion. I mean management selecting someone for a higher-graded position and moving them into it without the position being posted for employees to apply.

Is this allowed? If so, what type of hiring or promotion authority allows it?

Does anyone have a copy of the current title 42 pay scale for HHS?

I’m currently a term employee at my agency and i’m really hoping to be converted into a permanent employee when my current term expires in October ‘27. For the past few years, i’ve received top reviews and even had a level 5 review score under this newly structured review process set by OPM….

With that being said, is there a world in which it would be wise to ask for a promotion in addition to being made permanent or do I need to be converted first before asking for such a thing? From what i’ve seen, having consecutive periods of high reviews seems to be one of the markers for promotion eligibility but I don’t want to let my ego go unchecked and potentially make things worse by asking for too much, too quickly.

If anyone has an experience with this or advice to give, that would be greatly appreciated!
