It’s horrific. Double gate was built the same way and doesn’t remotely line up anymore either

I would start over again on each of those. Check posts for level as well before you hang a new one. Simple 2x4 3 rail frame is the strongest without adding unnecessary weight

No one ever calls when their gate sags. I visit 20 per day and they are always built wrong and sag. The one you have in the picture is the closest I have seen to being correct.

We do have people call for gate adjustments because I make it very clear to call if anything happens. Never has the gate been the issue. The cross brace being on the bottom and top touching the sides does the same thing as the side mounts. It just looks better.

It does look better than if an engineer designed it. I would do it just a little differently, I'm just being picky.

This is a decent gate but I would put 3 hinges on the horizontal boards and connect the cross brace at the bottom to the vertical board at the hinge, similar to hanging a shelf on a wall.

Start fresh and don't use so much wood 3 runners 2 angles going from hinge to latch and use 3 hinges wood gates are heavey I also put my post at a slight negative pitch so when it sags it levels out.

Ah, seeing now my caption didn’t post. My FIL “gifted” us a fence while I was down recovering from surgery. Now that I’m recovered, I’ve been proved right on the severe sagging. Is it worth trying to salvage or should I scrap and start fresh?

Start fresh…as I’m sure you already know, that thing is unnecessarily heavy. Keep it simple, add a compression brace, tight miters, you’ll be golden.
