I'd be really grateful if someone can lmk how's the transportation like in the area?

I don't drive so I thought about getting the train from Inverkeithing and then walking to the hospital? Is that a popular commute? How reliable are the buses?

If anyone can also lmk about work in victoria hospital, is it considered diverse and friendly towards POC?

Figured I’d throw this out there and see if anyone else is in the same boat.

I’m looking to meet some new people around Fife, male or female, for gaming, hanging out, grabbing a coffee/pint, or generally doing something that doesn’t involve staring at the same four walls! Been living in Scotland for about 4 years.

Gaming-wise I’m pretty varied. I’m on Xbox, PS5 and PC, and I’m always up for trying something new. I’m into things like RPGs, story-driven games, horror, action and co-op stuff. Happy gaming online, but it’d be nice to actually meet people IRL too.

Also absolutely not limited to gaming. If you’re into films/TV, horror, music, pub quizzes, random adventures, or just fancy making some new friends, give me a shout.

Visitor here. It's bad enough trying to get onto a six way roundabout in Glenrothes, without being hootered out of it for split second delays. I'm driving on Irish plates so it's obvious I'm not familiar with whatever charge and scatter driving some do. Part and parcel of life here?

I've recently moved to Kirkcaldy and I am looking for a reliable, professional orthodontist who works closely with a periodontist or viceversa. If they're both based in the same clinic, even better. Any place around Fife, including Edinburgh.

I need an orthodontist that specialises in bite correction and, eventually I will also need gum grafts, so I'm looking for a team of specialists who work together and prioritize gum and bone health, rather than focusing on cosmetic results.

Now, it’s legal to cycle down the A92.

But it’s also fucking downright insane to cycle with a child down a road that basically functions unofficially as a motorway for much of it (how many folk often mistakenly call the A92 a motorway since it looks like one?)

I agree we should improve our cycling infrastructure to reduce risks to cyclists , cycling is good for the environment and health and such , but come on cycling on a road with lorry’s firing down it at 60 and cars going at 70 (none of whom will be expecting a cyclist going at 10mph or so) is an excellent way to become an organ donor .

So what’s the best thing we can do about this? Expanding cycle lanes ? (As in proper ones separated from the road , not just a line down the side of the road) because this current way of doing it is a huge risk . Being legally correct doesn’t make you less dead when a lorry takes you out.

I have a small collection of guitars I’d like to donate, not sure how good of a condition they are… is there a “lend it” music library in or around Fife?

I’ve been looking into the whole situation around Uber applying for a licence to operate in Fife, and I honestly think there’s a bigger issue here than whether people are for or against Uber.

The main thing that concerns me is the public consultation that has already taken place.

From what I’ve found, the consultation was only open for three weeks. That’s technically what is required, but how many normal people in Fife actually knew it was happening?

I certainly didn’t. And from speaking to people I know, neither did they.

Meanwhile, the taxi trade obviously knew about it and were actively encouraging people within the industry to respond. There’s nothing wrong with them doing that, of course, but it does make you wonder whether the consultation really captured the views of the wider public.

A friend recently had a pretty ridiculous experience that brought this into focus for us. She couldn’t get a taxi from Dunfermline train station despite trying several companies, so she got off at Inverkeithing instead and ended up paying £35 for a taxi back into Dunfermline.

And I know that’s not going to be everyone’s experience, but I’m sure plenty of people in Fife have their own stories about taxi availability, prices and trying to get home at busy times.

There’s also the issue of what’s happening with the local taxi companies in Dunfermline City. The information that prompted me to look into all this was a comment made (by a taxi driver) who told me that Prompt Taxis has bought up other firms, including Aitch Taxis and Carnegie Taxis, and that they could now account for around 70% of the taxis in Dunfermline.

I haven’t been able to independently verify that 70% figure, so I’m not going to claim it as fact. But if the local market really has become that concentrated, surely that’s something that should be looked at properly too.

And this is where I think we need to separate the issue from Uber itself.

I’m not particularly interested in turning this into an “Uber good, taxis bad” argument. That’s not the point.

The point is that this is a decision which could affect everyone who uses taxis in Fife, and I don’t think three weeks of relatively low-profile consultation is enough to say that the people of Fife have genuinely had their say.

What I’d like to see is Fife Council run another, longer consultation, but this time actually make sure people know about it.

Put it out there properly. Social media, local newspapers, community groups, train stations, wherever it needs to go.

Let the taxi companies have their say.

Let Uber have their say.

But let the actual people who use taxis have their say too.

So I’m posting this here mainly to see what other people think.

Have you had problems getting taxis in Fife? Had to wait ages? Been unable to get one at all? Had to change your plans because there weren’t any available? Had an expensive or unexpected fare?

And if you think there should be another proper public consultation that is actually publicised to the wider community, I’d encourage you to contact your local councillor or Fife Council’s Regulation & Licensing Committee Members (https://www.fife.gov.uk/about-your-council/politicians-and-committees/committees/fife-wide-or-strategic/regulation-and-licensing-committee) and say so.

I’m not trying to tell anyone what they should think about Uber.

I just think the people of Fife deserve a proper opportunity to have their say before a major decision like this is made.

I’m looking to make some new friends, either for a chat on WhatsApp or, ideally, people I can actually meet up with for a coffee, gaming session, a wander about, or whatever takes our fancy.

I’m based around the Perth area, but honestly, Perth can be a bit hit and miss when it comes to finding people to socialise with, so I’m more than happy to meet people around Dundee or elsewhere in the surrounding area.

A little about me:

🎮 PC gaming — anything from chilled-out gaming sessions to getting far too competitive over something that really doesn't matter.

🏊 Wild swimming — still fairly new to it, but enjoying getting out and doing something different. Yes, I voluntarily get into freezing cold water. I question my own sanity too.

🏎️ Cars & motorbikes — pretty much anything with an engine interests me. I can happily spend far too long talking about cars, bikes, modifications, old vehicles, new vehicles or generally making engine noises.

I'm sure things will be heating up more as the time gets closer to next summer and The Open at St Andrews, but my friend entered the random ticket allocation lottery and actually won. So four of us are coming from the states to spectate and play in your lovely Fife.

The issue... hotels are already pretty much booked except for some in Dundee or closer to Edinburgh. There are a couple of AirBnBs available in St. Andrews for a low rate of $55k for four nights...

Any suggestions or advice for a yankee like me?

My husband and I will be visiting Scotland from Western Australia, will be spending a week in Kinghorn from 16/8-22/8. We love pub quizzes, are there any around the area in that time frame?
