Show And Tell For you first-gen fans

Discovered this little gem today while looking to see if there had ever been an Explorer raced in the Dakar. Sadly not, but they did race in the Baja!

Baja-prepped Factory Team 1994 Ford Explorer, the build was later used as part of the development of the Raptor.

I have a shirt from the event that it first raced in 1991. Is a huge reason along with Jurassic park in why I bought my 1st gen from my cousin. Also to tell you just how amazing this truck was in desert racing, at the time out of all the rough riders ford team trucks, the Explorer was the most successful. It was raced from 1991 to 1994 when John Swift got a new Ranger to replace it. He actually still owns the Explorer race truck to this day. Also another guy Danny ashcraft raced a ford explorer at the same time for Herzog racing. The 1st gen explorer was a lot more of a serious off roader than people think.

I just got my ‘94 XLT a few months ago, it was my grandma’s and she recently gave it to me after she decided to stop driving. I was with her when she bought it and it’s only got 90k miles on it! (oil spots aren’t from it, doesn’t leak a drop) I love the Jurassic Park tour vehicles and I spent my teens being driven around in and then driving this truck when I got my license.
