I loved when the episodes had scenes like this which gave insight into why Philip and Vivian wanted better for their kids and not to make the same mistakes they did growing up.

Sorry, I haven’t watched this TV show, but I happened to come across a toy figure wearing Arab clothing (a white headscarf and a white robe), and the face looked like Will Smith’s. I used Google Lens to search by image, and it seems like I found that it was a figure from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Was that actually an outfit that appeared in the TV show?

Was anyone else relieved when the writers stopped having Hilary name-drop random celebrities?

It's clearly redubbed so it got me thinking what the original line was

I always loved their brother/sister relationship on and off camera.

  • A lot of references are super dated. The show is a product of its time but nonetheless references to things like the Cosby show go right over my head.
    • And this happens at least 5 times an episode.
  • A lot of the characters are really mean to each other for no reason
• The Ugly
  • "Hahaha Uncle Phil is fat and eats a lot" is seriously getting on my nerves
  • "Hahaha Carlton isn't black" is also really getting on my nerves
  • Hilary is insufferable, and I think the writers clearly wanted her to be that way, so mission accomplished

I don’t think anyone would argue this is one of the defining episodes of the series. This interaction between James Avery and Ben Vereen is not spoken about enough. Every time I watch this scene, it’s like watching a clash of the titans. The closing scene with Will and Uncle Phil is symbolic for Will Smith professionally, as many people see it as the first true glimpse of him securely in his dramatic actor seat.

However, the scene with James Avery and Ben Vereen features two seasoned veterans, refined, commanding. It’s just a masterclass. An all-time dramatic exchange between icons. Again, all of the dramatic scenes in this episode were incredible but this one registers high on the scale for me because of the experience, command, and magnanimity these two brought to this exchange.
