(Bergen Co, NJ) my failure to keep the common milkweed in check apparently has an upside. I’ll keep my fingers crossed 🤞

It's Photo Friday!

With the spring migration and breeding season in full swing what have you been seeing in your garden? Share the good, bad and the ugly!

All nature photos are welcome, whether it’s a pollinator moment or just something that made you stop and look twice.

Reminder: We are a science-based sub. While we welcome all monarch enthusiasts, we do not support discussions about hand-rearing monarchs. However, if you’re new and have questions because you’ve raised monarchs in the past, we have many former rearers here happy to guide you toward more sustainable practices. Let’s work together to protect monarchs where they belong—in the wild!

Stay curious and keep sharing the love for these beautiful butterflies! 🧡🖤🧡

This butterfly has its wing almost completely disconnected. I have never seen this before, wondering if maybe it was injured or diseased?

I feel so bad for it, it was flying around my backyard fir awhile but seemed to struggle some and veering to one side.

She (I think its female, no black dots means female, right?) flew away but landed on every bush until she got out of my yard.

Discussion The fall migration has begin!

Journey North's citizen scientists have started uploading information including some photos to their fall roost map! There are some great photos from Ontario and Rapid River, MI. I encourage you to put on your citizen scientists hat and contribute if you can.

What does your garden look like right now? Are you already prepping for next spring? What late blooming flowers do you recommend for those in your area?

As a southern Floridan I am looking forward to the high 80's instead of the heat warnings and the 110's. Earlier this year I had a chance to put in a lot of natives in an area in front of my living room windows. At this point I have been googling how to prune or trim those plants to make sure there is room for the rain to get to the soil. Things are looking crispy so I will take any advice you have.

Newbie Question Is this a monarch egg

I have never seen a monarch egg, but I found this while doing my routine look.

A quick google search says it is, but I thought they lay on the underside of the leaf.

And I am adding a picture of the smallest caterpillar I have ever seen.

Shape and color are off for a monarch egg. But it’s something!
