Hope this is appropriate for this sub, but I made digitigrade legs and an owl mask for a murder mystery game that I am participating in this weekend. Hope to repurpose the legs for an American badger suit eventually. The only mistakes that I couldn’t correct were the gaps between the toes in the feet paws and the way that the secondary color of the pants curves around my ankles. Other than that, I am very very pleased with how it came out. Say hello to Sir Absinthe

Advice I need help with the cheek/eye area?

First off, 1 am so sorry for the image quality I have no idea what happened im going somewhere and I don't really have the time to set up my stuff more properly.

This is the first fursuit I'm making, which is a raptor (Dakota raptor to be specific), and I'm pretty happy with it so far but I’m mostly worried about the eyes? With how my cheeks are fitting currently, the eyes will end up kind of at the top of the head; and I looked at other fursuits of a similar species and none of their eyes were that far up so I’m a little scared.

I would prefer if people would draw over the images and give me visual representations as if I have to change the cheek significantly I don’t really know how to make them properly?

I’m also using Skyes video on YouTube if that helps?

Questions Would this as hair be ok?

Thumbnail

Hello guys, i have an genuine question, could i use this wool as hair? It’s really thick wool and i‘m afraid that it might look to much like locks and as you can see, it would be pretty weird for me if my sona had them.
I got the wool for free and i think it would work really good for hair, kinda like in it takes two (last picture) but idk? (I‘m remaking the ears rn, so that the headshape won’t look as weird as it does in the image!)
The top part would be black wool and the bottom probably the blue one in the first picture. But i‘m extremely unsure if i should/can do it, without it being weird yk

Questions Airflow holes for TPU?

Heya! First time maker here.

I've sculpted a head that I plan to print in foaming TPU or regular TPU (infill only). The eyes/horns will be PLA.

Experienced makers, do you see any issues printing openings like the ones around the snout and on the forehead? I plan to fur over them, but wanted to reduce weight and create as much airflow as possible.

Thanks for your insight! Glad to see such a friendly community here <3

Questions How to achieve this fur gradient?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello! I want to make a tail with a similar effect to animal fur where the root of the fur is a different color than the tip. While I have found fur that can recreate this effect (although I’m not sure how well it will match the rest of the fur I plan on buying) I’m left wondering how to get the fur to puff out so you can actually see the roots.

Is a specific pile length better for that effect? Or would I have to manually style the fur that way?

Questions Do I need to make my bucket base a little tighter on the lower part and how do I do it.

It's already bigger cuz of my glasses and the chin is far from touching the foam.

Advice Looking for some advice on my first head + its ears

Thumbnail

im a first time maker, making my head on a 3d printed base (by maimface i think). im afraid the ears make it look too cat-like, the species is meant to be a coyote, or at the very least resemble some canine lol

how can i make them look better? ive redone the ears like twice now because i couldnt get them to look right and i couldnt get them to hold up at a good spot on the head without flopping down a little. im not really happy with them in general. are the ears too close together? i want there to be room for a tuft of hair but im afraid there wont be enough room for one once its furred. should i redo them entirely, move them down etc? i know theyre not entirely symmetrical with the sizing, i gotta trim that down if i keep these ones.

any advice will be appreciated just be nice to me T_T. i also would like to know if i should add any foam on the outer side of the base to shape it more like cheek fluff, but still keep the moving jaw if possible. youre all welcome to draw over the images to draw a guide if youd like.

apologies for the bad pictures

Hi there! Currently working on my fursona’s head piece and was wondering how to go about his eyebrows… I do want a more serious look to his face but would it be weird to set his eyebrows onto his eyelids? His eyelids are magnetically detachable…

Advice Tips for getting the cheeks more even?

Thumbnail

I am almost done with my first foam headbase now (only need to adjust the muzzle and ears a little so that it resembles the right species a bit more) but then I noticed the cheeks were unsymmetrical. The right cheek was a bit small and too trimmed down, so I tried to fix it by adding pieces and trimming it down again, but then it got to puffy and round compared to the left. Now I am almost there, but the right one still is a bit too round. The problem is that there are a lot of lumps of glue where I need to cut, making it hard to trim in a smooth way. Any tips for what the best approach might be? I have come so far now that I don’t want to ruin it. I had an idea about trimming it down way more so I could glue a new piece, that I could make a lot smoother a lot easier, but feel like that might be a bit too risky. Any tips?

(Third photo isn’t with updated ears like the first picture! The back is more thicker now so they have more shape)

Hello! This is my first fursuit so I wanted to get some crit from people who have more experience. I’m wondering if there’s anything I should clean up before moving onto taping- I’m planning to add cheek fluff and teeth but other than that I’m not planning on adding anything major.

Feel free to redline it if you want!

Advice Thoughts on these markings?

I’m trying to figure out if my markings look natural enough on the Manokit head I’m working on!
Basically, I’m wondering which line for the inner ear looks best? The thinner one or the wider one? (5th photo)
I’d also love any other feedback on the markings in general! I’m still figuring out how to translate the design onto my fursuit head, so opinions are very welcome.

Questions Help with protogen visor: magnets and glue, astew…

Helo all,
A little while ago I received a wonderful full protogen suit that, while mostly perfect, had a few minor issues regarding the head.

The visor was affixed using magnets that, unfortunately, did not seem to be strong enough to actually keep the visor from falling or flinging off when in any movement more than a slow controlled walk. I discovered this at the convention I received it for, and made the shortsighted decision of gorilla glueing the visor to the rest of the head, which, while ensuring it remained attached, introduced a whole host of other issues by preventing me from ever removing it.

I don’t really have any skill at fursuit making or craft work in general, and so I was hoping to reach out and see if anyone would be able to help me with a couple questions:

1: What would be the safest and most effective way to remove the visor from the rest of the helmet? I’ve considered using something sharp, maybe a knife, to kind of “cut” and part through the glue, but I’m unsure how effective that would actually be and don’t want to risk damaging the visor, the head, or the electronics inside.

2: I’m hoping to get a new pair of much stronger magnets that I could use to affix the visor to the helmet. Does anyone have any recommendations for good magnets I should look out for? My movements are rather chaotic in the suit, lots of whipping my head and body around, and so Im looking for something that could provide a very strong hold: im fine with it being more difficult to remove, as im not really planning on doing it other than to clean the visor and work with the interior. Also, any tips for affixing the magnets well? Would gorilla glue work well enough to hold them in place on both the visor and the helmet mount?

3: If anyone has any additional tips for better wiring and electronics management within the head, I’d love to hear them. Right now the wires and electronics are kind of just… loosely hanging out in there. Any specific tips for better organizing them? Id appreciate it :)

If anyone has any answers for any of these, I would really deeply appreciate the help! Thank you so much in advance.

I don’t really like the way it looks from the front. The mouth feels too wide and I definitely want to add foam on to the lip. I’ve just been stacking random scraps of foam on the front and then carving from there, and surprisingly, it’s turned out ok so far. If anyone has any more tips on making a screech fursuit head please let me know!
