Why ETS is allowing ...

Why ETS is still allowing to take at home?

I recently talked to one of the services who helps to get a high score on the GRE at home

Where your pc's keyboard and mouse and screen will be connected to a "guy" in another room and they're gonna solve it for you

As a result lots of ppl getting high score thru home test

\# and guys who are studying hard without cheating getting low score, cause percentile fell, as a result test is getting harder and harder

Is there any way to access the questions from the "Hard" second section of Quant on any of the three powerprep plus tests?

I built a free offline GRE Vocab Prep app: 1,199 words and No Ads!

Last year I built and published a Spanish learning app on the Google Play Store, a passion project made on weekends around a demanding full-time job. I thought of leveraging the same App engine for English Vocab learning...so I rebuilt it for the GRE, which is a far better fit because GRE vocab is exactly the kind of memorization problem where recognizing a word and actually knowing it are two very different things.

The part nobody sees, and the part I cared most about, was the content. Anyone can list 1,199 GRE words; making them teachable is another matter. I went through every single entry checking things like: is the definition actually accurate? Does the example sentence genuinely use the word? Do any two words share an identical definition because if they do, the app can end up asking a question with two correct answers. Do the synonyms of one word quietly show up as "wrong" options for another? I found and fixed all of those. The worst possible failure for a study app is teaching someone a wrong meaning, so that got tested far more than any feature did. How it teaches: each word goes through three steps: meet it with its definition, examples, synonyms, antonyms and word origin; then prove you can identify its meaning and its opposites; then use it correctly in context.

The most important aspect is that the App runs fully offline, shows no ads, requires no account, and asks for no permissions at all - no camera, files, mic or location. Nothing leaves your phone. The Basic course, 300 words, is completely free with no limits not a locked demo. Intermediate and Advanced are behind a single one-time purchase, no subscription.

Do check it out and share your valuable feedback which will help me improve the App.

Google Play Store Link to access the App - click here: GRE Vocab Prep

Note to Moderator: I am a solo developer and built this GRE Vocab App as a hobby project alongside a full-time job, not a company or a funded product. What I am actually looking for is genuine feedback so I can improve the App for students aiming to improve their Vocab for GRE. Thanks.

Stuck at 317 on GRE mocks — how do I break 320?

Hey guys! Need some tips on how to boost my score further.

Last week I took a free ETS PowerPrep test and scored 317 (155 Verbal, 162 Quant).

Today, exactly one week later, I took a PowerPrep Plus test and received... 317 again (154 Verbal, 163 Quant) 😭

In summary, after one week of preparation, I have increased by +1 my Quant section and decreased -1 my Verbal section, ending up with the exact same overall score.

As a background:

  • Almost finished the Manhattan 5 lb. Book
  • Completed all the questions in GregMat
  • Completed or almost completed the majority of ETS official GRE prep books/materials
  • Have about 1 month left before the test day
  • The aim is to get 320 or above

The major problem I see in myself right now is making many silly mistakes in Quant section. Of course, this does not mean that I am unable to solve the problem. I can make an arithmetic mistake, misread a question, rush and make an avoidable mistake.

As for the Verbal section, my problem is a bit different. There are questions, particularly Reading Comprehension questions, when I pick the right answer, then change my mind and think that my reasoning is wrong and end up changing my answer to a wrong one. 😭

So right now, in my opinion, I'm not sure that doing more questions is what I should be doing. I have already solved quite a number of problems and wonder whether I should pay attention to error analysis and test-taking practices more than doing additional problems.

And one more thing to mention. Should I take a mock test once a week? As I have taken a PowerPrep Plus today, would you recommend me to take my next PowerPrep Plus either in one week or in two weeks?

What would you recommend to do for the next month to get from 317 to 320+?

Should I:

  • Should I spend most of my time reviewing all my mistakes in the mocks?
  • Continue working on silly mistakes with timed sections?
  • Focus on Quant accuracy only?
  • Not second guessing myself in RC?
  • Do ETS/GregMat questions where I’ve made mistakes?
  • Have any strategy at all for figuring out why I’m making these mistakes?
  • Sit the next PP+ next week, or two weeks later?

And to be realistic, how possible is a 320+ in one month from a 317?

Any advice would be very helpful from anyone who has been stuck between 315 and 318 and then broken 320.

One Difficult Question Can Hurt You More Than Once

The obvious cost of a difficult GRE question is the time you spend on it or the possibility that you answer it incorrectly. The less obvious cost is what happens after you move on.

You may still be replaying your reasoning, wondering whether you missed something, or thinking about how much time you lost. You may also start worrying about what that question means for your section score.

Meanwhile, the next question is in front of you, but it’s not receiving your full attention. This is how one difficult question can turn into a sequence of mistakes.

The questions that follow may not be any harder. However, your concentration and decision-making have been disrupted. You may rush to recover lost time, read less carefully, let your scratchwork become disorganized, or abandon the processes you normally trust.

After years of working with GRE students, I've found that this is one of the less discussed differences between practice performance and test-day performance. Many students know how to solve the questions. What they haven't practiced is how to recover when a question doesn't go according to plan. But mental recovery is an essential test-taking skill, one that should be practiced just like accuracy, pacing, and endurance.

You can train this skill during official practice exams. After any question that feels unusually difficult, pay attention to what happens next. Are you still thinking about the previous question? Are you rushing because you want to recover time? Are you reading the next question less carefully? Has your scratchwork become less organized? Have you stopped following your normal process?

When you notice any of those reactions, use a deliberate reset. Complete the question, take one calm breath, accept that the decision is done, and direct your full attention to the next question. Tell yourself: That question is over. This question is the test.

The goal is not to feel perfectly calm after every difficult question. The goal is to prevent one uncomfortable moment from controlling the next several minutes of the exam.

You can't recover points by continuing to think about a question you've already completed. You can still protect every question that follows.

How are you actually splitting your GRE prep time?

I keep running into the same problem where I’ll plan a “balanced” GRE study schedule, but somehow one section ends up getting way more attention than the other. Then I’ll spend a few days fixing that and mess up the balance again.

For those who are preparing seriously right now, how are you dividing your study time between Quant, Verbal, vocab and full-length mocks? Do you follow a fixed daily routine or just focus on whichever area feels weaker that week?

Would also be curious to know what actually worked for people who improved their score significantly, rather than just following a generic 2-hour-a-day plan.

What's the Ideal time I should give for Big Book Passages (Short or Long) for Practice? Plus, is there any other items which I could use to practice RC and somewhat closer to ETS Passages. (Repost)-Please don't delete it.

I have been giving 1.5 minute per question to practice GRE Big Book Passages, however at times I find it difficult to complete the entire set of questions associated with the passage. Especially I miss out at least one question in a short passage if its a harder one or at least 2 questions in the case of longer passage. So I wanted to know if one needs to give some 1 or 2 min extra to apart from question wise time to practice. Or should I just stick to 1.5 minutes only or try to change strategies in terms of reading or answering questions.

Apart from that, is there any material closest to ETS Big Book passages to practice. I have been using GregMat passages to ensure I do not run out of passages in the Big Book for timed practice. P.S-I know ETS passage are the real gold to practice. Just asking if there's any? Or if its possible to use some decent AI Chatbot to generate ETS type passages and questions associated with that passage?

Any suggestions what should be the ideal time to allot in order to practice would be welcome.
