How to be supportive
I (30M) just found out my wife (30F) has been hiding a gambling addiction from me for around 3 years. She’s lied about her savings, she’s lied about where she’s been during lunch, after work, working late all to go play slots. She has essentially no savings and accumulated 10k in credit card debt.
The thing is I can afford to pay off her debt so she doesn’t have to pay interest and they she will pay me back instead. And I haven’t been easy on her at all, I just feel like I have to balance empathy for her struggle, anger and sadness for all of the lying over the years, and the anxiety of her potentially falling into it again and sabotaging my future as well.
I now have full access to her accounts, am tracking her location on her phone, and will be developing a budget for her to follow. I explicitly told her I will not willing live like this and if it continues I will find a way out. But honestly, I’m kinda just lost and stressed and somewhat hopeless
