Okay, so I'm a first time poster here - not super familiar with these subs. But... I was wrapping up another totally normal work day today and then on my drive back home, for whatever reason, I started thinking about the "old days." It wasn't even a particular memory or anything, but I was just thinking about that overall vibe of the mid/late 2000s, you know? And that got me thinking about all the gaming memories I have from that time. And then that that got me searching on Reddit for gaming communities out of curiosity... and somehow that landed me on this subreddit.

Does anyone else remember stuff like this?

• Staying up crazy late on a school night playing StarCraft and convincing yourself that four hours of sleep during senior year of high school was a good idea? (Erica in Michigan - I have fond memories of our late night convos from 2007, even though I have no idea where you are today)
• That door opening sound on AOL and checking if it was that one person you wanted to talk to but obviously wouldn't message first? Or the strategic "let them IM you first" method, only to hear that door shut sound...
• Going grocery shopping with your parents but hanging out in the magazine isle so you can look up cheat codes.
• Printing out GameFAQs walkthroughs. I can already see Gen Alpha rolling their eyes at us.
• That sleepover with my buddies when we played Soul Calibur on Dreamcast until like 3am. Good times, good times.

Anyway.... here's a bit about me (and what I'm looking for with this post):

• I’m 36 now, living solo in this chapter of life, have a professional career etc. For whatever reason, people assume I'm ambitious, educated, 'have it all', blah, blah, blah. I don't think ANY of my colleagues would ever guess how much of my life I've spent around games and computers, haha.
• Sometimes after work I’m ready for a four-hour gaming session and other days, I'm doing more work (let's be real...). And there are always those days when all I want to do is veg out and order takeout and watch YouTube. Or go for a walk and listen to music. I like to think I'm just a chill sort of person.
• What I really want to find is someone (or a few folks) where gaming is kind of like the backdrop to a great friendship, you know? Maybe play something. Talk about our days. Give each other shit. Occasionally have unexpectedly great conversations. Bring back those 2am late 2000s AOL energy, just chill vibes.
• But yeah, I’m much less concerned about finding someone into all the exact same games than I am about finding people I genuinely click with.
• I like to stay active! Big on hiking/outdoors, etc. (not sure why I'm sharing this, haha).

I also realize I should include some gaming specifics:

• PC gamer, East Coast US time zone (but open to any US time zones).
• I play a whole set of different games like COD, Forza Horizon, American Truck Simulator, Halo, GTA, Rocket League (rusty on this one), Spintires/Snowrunner
• Big retro fan - Dreamcast, especially
• Honestly open to trying new stuff if there's a good group. But, like I said above, I am rather busy with work, so I'd love to find a Friday night/Saturday night gaming group.

Always been a huge fan of CRPGs - Baldur's Gate I/II, Divine Divinity, Ultima, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, and Neverwinter Nights. More modern titles being - Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin, BG3, Pathfinder, and Dragon Age. Always wanted to play Tabletop D&D, but never had a group; Instead I just watch Critical Role!
