[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI | Extended Look + Previews Discussion

The GTA 6 Extended Look + Previews drop today.

The Extended Look will stream globally on Netflix at 3PM ET/12PM PT/8PM UK, before being dropped on YouTube later the same day. Content creators/streamers are being allowed to co-stream the extended look as it premieres on Netflix, and so we can use this thread to discuss it right as it goes live. This thread will also be updated with the YT link to the look whenever it drops online.

In addition to the extended look, various media outlets, creators and influencers have gotten a chance (potentially hands-on) to experience GTA 6 at Rockstar's offices, and the embargo for these previews are ALSO supposed to lift at the same time that the Netflix extended look premieres - I'll be trying to update this post with some such previews too.

‘God of War’ Star Christopher Judge Says He Did Line-Reading For Live-Action Kratos And Even Began Putting On Weight, But Ultimately Dropped Out: "It was so hard for me to memorize my lines, which I never had a problem with. At 62, that was my mind & body telling me, 'You don't want to do this'"

"We had talked, and I thought, 'God, what a great legacy to leave for my grandson.' So I started working out. I got bigger. Then, just the reality of it... because I did read! I did read for it. It was so hard for me to memorize my lines, which I never had a problem with. And that was my mind and body starting to tell me, 'You don't want to do this.' I was one of the leads of Stargate at 33 to 44 and then stopped. Now, at 62, to be the lead, I just have no desire to live that way again."

He also spoke on Dave Bautista as the live-action Kratos:

"With Ryan, I thought that was absolutely the right choice. He's played all the games. He's a gamer and new father; like, who better? Then when he got hurt, it was like, are they going to take time to read with and call people back? So when I heard the name of Bautista, I thought, 'Didn't he just lose like 100 pounds?' So I hope he's going to be great. I think he's going to be great. I just hope it doesn't cause any health issues to put back on all that weight."

Despite being unfinished and half baked, it still has one of the greatest (if not the greatest) third person tactical gameplay in the stealth genre. The Fox engine is a timeless technical marvel that sadly hasn’t been used on that scale since.

Happy 11th anniversary to MGSV The Phantom Pain!

Most of the devs behind Star Wars Zero Company were furloughed ahead of the game's launch

Thumbnail

But for many developers on the game, launch has been bittersweet. Fans love it. Critics prefer it to most recent Star Wars games. Zero Company, which is out for PS5, Xbox Series consoles and PC, is the top-selling game on Steam.

Much of the team that made it, however, is currently going without pay. They were furloughed, just weeks ahead of the game’s launch.

A rep for Bit Reactor confirmed to Game File today that the studio had furloughed many of its workers prior to the game’s release. They said it was a difficult decision and one that had been made before it was clear how launch would go. The rep emphasized that the call to do this was Bit Reactor’s alone (meaning not from publisher EA nor Star Wars license holder Disney).

While the rep declined to comment on the scale of the furloughs, a previously unreported lawsuit brought by studio co-founder Alison Kelly in 2024 noted in a filing from August 12 of this year that Bit Reactor “has furloughed most of its employees and terminated contractors…”

One source told Game File the furloughs impacted 80% of the team; another referred to there only being a skeleton crew left on Bit Reactor’s active payroll, ready to address any of Zero Company’s post-launch bugs.

The issue is that Bit Reactor, a studio formed in 2021, had run out of most of its money just ahead of the launch of its first game.

Over the weekend, Zachariah Scott, a senior technical artist who worked at Bit Reactor from early 2023 until an acrimonious exit this past May, said on LinkedIn that the studio was “concealing the fact that the team was Furloughed weeks ago.”

Reached by phone today, Scott told Game File that he spoke to nearly a dozen Bit Reactor workers over the weekend. “Everybody has essentially the same story, which is, ‘Yeah, I got furloughed three weeks ago.”

The Bit Reactor rep told Game File that the studio hoped to bring furloughed workers back with restored pay, suggesting that a successful launch of the game could be impactful.

What's an obscure or Indie game you can recommend that isn't an FPS?

I'm in the mood to try something new. I don't care what era or genre, just something not well known and above all FUN.

If you could only recommend ONE game matching that description what would it be?

Let me know so I can look into it please. If I've already played it I'll let you know what I thought about it

If you've ever wanted to try Heroes of Might & Magic III, play Horn of the Abyss (Now its on STEAM)

Heroes III is 27 years old and somehow it is still one of the easiest games for me to recommend, largely because of Horn of the Abyss.

HotA isn't just a small mod. At this point it feels like the continuation of Heroes III that we never officially got.

You get three completely new factions: Cove, Factory and now Bulwark... five full campaigns, new heroes, artifacts, creatures, terrains, map objects, spells/mechanics, balance changes and a ridiculous amount of QoL improvements. The HD Mod is integrated too.

What impresses me most is how carefully it respects the original game. The art, music, lore and mechanics still feel like Heroes III rather than somebody bolting a modern mod onto a 1999 game.

Factory in particular is fantastic. It embraces the weird science-fantasy side of the original Might & Magic universe with automatons, engineers and technology while still somehow looking completely at home beside Castle, Dungeon or Necropolis.

And HotA isn't only for campaigns.

The competitive/random-map scene is enormous. Templates such as Jebus Cross, Jebus Outcast and Duel essentially turn Heroes III into a completely different kind of competitive strategy game. There are also decades of community-made scenarios and maps to explore.

For single-player, after the original campaigns I'd absolutely recommend playing the HotA campaigns, especially Forged in Fire. And once you start looking into custom maps, Heroes III becomes almost bottomless.

That's the crazy thing about this game: it isn't surviving purely because of nostalgia. It's still being developed.

A game from 1999 just received another faction in 2026, a major Steam release, Workshop support and continuing balance/content updates from a community that has been keeping it alive for decades.

If you like turn-based strategy and somehow never played Heroes III, this is probably the best excuse you're ever going to get.

Heroes III + Horn of the Abyss. Highly recommended.

Did you guys miss Black & White too??

So I loooooooved black and white 1 AND 2, when they came out, played the shit out of them. never seen a game like that after that (or maybe I missed it), recently I tried Masters of Albion, which is from the same guy, and is supposed to capture the fantasy of Black and White . . . I guess. it doens't feel the same at all tbh, and it is mixed on steam with low reviews.

So why don't we get anything like black and white anymore ? is it like, no one wants a game like that these days, or you guys want something like that too ?

Also would be nice to share the games that are trying to capture that feeling of being GOD, while being super interactive with people and world without being a deep sim game.

Why can't modern games shut up?

8.5k Upvotes

Playing Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and while I enjoy the game in general, it does not give me a minute of silence. There is constantly, and I mean really constantly, someone talking. Either the protagonist or one of the companions. Not even something interesting, just what I see, what I do or what I have to do. "Hurry", "Be careful", "This looks interesting", "I can't stay here.", "Go away.", "They're everywhere.", "Breathe.", ...

It got so bad in the later chapters I had to mute it in the menu.

Why can't the game give me a minute to enjoy the scenery or let the world speak for itself. Do people really enjoy this?

Edit: I do not talk about hints for puzzles. I mean useless chatter without information just "noise".
