When I hold the door open from about four feet up and let it go then it slams down pretty hard. S this normal? The guy who adjusted the springs said that’s how it’s supposed to be.

Closing the garage door results in a lot of bouncing and noise. I thought maybe the inner trolley had too much clearance with the rail, so I replaced it, but no improvement. Should I replace the outer trolley next, or is there something else I should look into? There's no soft-start option with this chain opener. TIA!

I have two 13 year old motors. Had a door guy come out and said he could replace the control boards (could have the part name wrong) for ~ $800 or I could replace the motors entirely. I have tentatively scheduled a replacement. Is this a wise decision? I read that max life for a motor is 10-15 years ... however the tech said they could last as long as 30. I'd hate to repair them and have them crap out in a year.

I am not great with gadgets and cannot for the life of me figure out why I cannot connect my garage door opener to my wifi. I’m using the genie garage door opener (I believe the model is 6172). I am trying to connect it via the Aladdin connect app. The garage door opener shows that the WiFi is not connected, it should be blue but is instead red. I have tried to restart it and restart my WiFi to see if that would help. My WiFi is also at 2 bars next to the opener. Has anyone had the same problem or have any solutions? I also have this dangling piece of wire (circled) that I’m not sure should be connected to something. I did not install this myself, but a tech did. Thank you!!

I have the garage opener in the title. I think it is the 1356M model, but not sure (I don't have the original documentation). I'm attaching pictures of the units to help identify it. It's an old unit, no doubt.

The handheld opener(s) stopped working. I can't put my finger on a specific trigger or a time it happened (about 4 months ago). The wall button works just fine (wired, so not really related).
I tried deleting all codes and reconnecting the handheld, but it didn't work.

There seems to be some difference between the manual I found and the instructions on the unit itself.

The manual says to click the learn button, release it, then hold the remote button until the light blinks. On the device, however, it says to hold both buttons until it blinks.

I tried pairing the original remote, a new generic one, and a new LiftMaster one... I think I'm doing something wrong (since I managed to program it before).

I can share more pictures if needed, or the manual I found; I just don't want to overload the post.

I have a customer who uses a door no more than 3-4 times a day and wants to make it electric on his exterior garage. The door is 10' high and weighs 385lbs, at 3-4 uses per day can I just use any opener I want and if he's up for paying for an ATSW with I-Beam that's also an option?

The only weight / duty cycle sell sheet Liftmaster has on their site anymore is the commercial one.

Hello! My garage door is not closing, I have to try multiple times by pressing the door button or holding it to get it to close. This randomly just started happening. The sensor light is working perfectly fine, there’s no debris, and the track is how it’s supposed to be. I also tried resetting my door opener itself, yet no luck. I have a Chamberlain wall-side opener.

Hello everyone, I am replacing my springs for my garage and am wondering what springs to order. I believe the broken spring is a .207 x 2” x 20” spring due to the writing on the side. I do not know what kind the other is and it seems to be longer in length. Any recommendations on how I can identify what spring it is? Very much appreciate the help!

Recently had my springs replaced. I have a 4 panel, 2 car, non insulated garage door. I mentioned that when I replace my door in the near future I would want it to be setup the same way the current one is. When open, my door sits significantly higher and gives me a lot of room. No other homes in my subdivision have this.

The guy who did my airings said that’s the first time he’s ever seen a door so high and said it wasn’t a good idea. Well it’s been like that for almost 30 years with no issues so I’m confused on why he would say that.

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this because it's driving me nuts. I have a 1/2hp liftmaster that I couldn't get to work right after i unhooked the garage door from the trolley while it was half open. This was several years ago. I just left it unhooked and opened it manually. I bought another liftmaster (3585p) gdo off of Facebook recently and put it up. I saw it work when I got it. After installing it, it would hum for a couple seconds but the sprocket wouldn't move. I opened it up and saw what looked like oil under 1 of the capacitors so I got a replacement, installed it and tried again but got the same result. I plugged in my old gdo on the floor and hooked up the sensors from the new to me 3585p gdo. When i hit the button the sprocket turned. When i put the old gdo up and took the new to me gdo down, the old gdo does the same thing that the new gdo did. Hit the button and it hums for 2 seconds. That made me think the sensors that I had from my old opener were bad so I hooked it up with the sensors from the new gdo. Same result. After putting the new gdo on the floor, I hooked the new sensors up to it and the top sprocket turned when I hit the button. So to recap, 2 gdo's work on the floor. When put on the ceiling with the exact same sensors that were used on the floor, nada. When testing them on the ceiling and floor, I did not have the chain/belt on either. The T bar was on both when they were on the ceiling but neither openers sprocket had to turn anything. I also used the same power source that ran both on the floor when they were on the ceiling. Sorry such a long explanation. Any help would be so very appreciated. Thanks

I'm having a wall mount opener installed tomorrow for the door on the left. At some point in the future we may have one installed for the other door as well. Should I put the opener in the middle of the doors, or in the corner? (I have to move some stuff either way, just want to know which you would suggest). I'm also going to need to have an outlet installed, so I could do one outlet in the middle, or run one to each corner.

I recently just backed up into the garage door because I opened the door remotely from my car then checked the rearview mirror--it was empty so I decided to back up...Ended up backing straight into the garage door which was stopped about half way. The door managed to go back up, and wouldn't come down until the emergency cord was pulled. Called a guy to come in this morning and was quoted $3500 to replace the entire garage, but when asked about just replacing the slabs he said it would still be $3200!!! Am I crazy or is that price a bit much?????

Hi all, we are renting and just moved into this house. Landlord is currently uncontactable and we want to open the door to let contractors in to fix a conservatory roof leak. The garage is accessible through the conservatory from the inside.

Quite a few keys were left and one fits on the exterior lock but does not turn at all.

I also noticed there this is a switch on the inside that was off, I turned this on and it didn’t seem to do anything.

This might just be a case of not having the correct key but I want to try and navigate this myself if possible.

Any ideas on what's causing the sounds near the top and bottom?

When nearly fully open (both opening and closing, though it didn't do it when closing in this video), there's a sort of shuddering sound.

When nearly closed (both opening and closing), it's like a chattering sound.

I believe it's a Liftmaster 8550; been installed for about 8 years.

I believe it's the original spring, which is at around 24k cycles. I tried spraying lubricant on it, but that didn't help with the sound at all.

First it had a issue going down, would only go down when button is held down, if pressed would try to go down then just back up. The sensors are perfectly aligned both solid green and amber, if misaligned green would flicker and if something obstructing green would blink.

Tried aligning/moving the sensors a million times nothing. Next i decided to reset the travel limits, did the reset up and down, then it did the test, went up perfectly but then it would go down then back up again.

Now the travel limit reset procedure wont finish and the garage wont go down unless i pull the lever and wont go up unless manually pushed up. And blinks twice.

Error code flashing is 6 down 4 up saying problem with the sensors. Whats could it be? Wiring looks good, sensors are good? Losing my mind.

I had a chair under my garage door when I closed it, when it closed it hit the top of the chair and the top panel and metal bracket were bent slightly.

I’m hoping I can just straighten out the metal piece that connects the door to the center track, but I’ve always heard that garage doors are the one thing you really don’t want to DIY.

It doesn’t look like the metal piece is under tension, but I’d like to avoid making the situation worse or having to replace the panel.
