Please Explain The Following
WHY does Drew hate Sonny all of a sudden??? I’ve watched for over 18 years now and I don’t understand. This is reminding me of when Laura and Anna suddenly had issues w Sonny a few years ago. Maybe it’s just bad writing??? It seems so out of no where.

Bad writing at its finest. Sonny and Ava have been ok for years now, then out of nowhere this? She is also lying to Drew about Sonny badmouthing her in front of Avery, never happened and never would happen , Sonny is a lot of things but he wouldn’t subject Avery to such nonsense. It’s just a plot point to further the story…. And to I guess get Maura West something to do besides have martini’s with Nina. Drew needs to GO AWAY.

u/kalyknits 21h ago
He literally just sent a bodyguard to keep her safe and now he’s saying Avery would be better off if her mother disappeared? It’s nonsense.

I said 1 million times and I’ll say it 1 million more times even though the writers never read what I write get rid of Drew and Willow and Jordan and Curtis and give us some decent storylines that aren’t all misery and unhappiness all the damn time!

Or keep those characters and be better at storytelling. If they got rid of those guys it wouldn’t improve the writing, they’d just mess up other people.

u/Acceptable_Mirror235 1d ago
The writers didn’t know what to do with Drew so they made him a villain. No reason beyond that .

u/TreenBean85 Team We Just Can't Have Nice Things 23h ago
I'm starting to think it's more like the writers are catering to what the actors want. Cameron probably doesn't want to just get what's coming to him from the Willow storyline so he wants a big flashy new story of him getting to take down Sonny.

Why does Willow think she has to escape her marriage to Michael, why does Chase hate michael snd the Qs, why are we still on with the car crash nonsense, why is Trina now suddenly into singing.
There are so many poorly developed stories were stuck in.

u/kalyknits 21h ago
Chase has been salty at Michael since Willow cheated with Michael while married to Chase (out of pity).
Somehow he’s completely forgiven Willow for the betrayal.1
u/mrgpsingh1999 19h ago
I know Chase thought that he was going to die that time but why was he so hell bent on marrying Willow when he knew she was with Michael? Or did he not know that they had fallen in love?

u/sunnirays 13h ago edited 13h ago
If I remember, Willow and Michael needed to marry to improve their chances of keeping full custody of Wiley against Nelle (Willow would provide him with a stable mother figure) but didn't want to break up their existing relationships with Chase and Sasha. To make sure they didn't lose Wiley, Chase and Sasha staged a fake affair between themselves for Willow to walk in so they could dump them and have no qualms about a marriage of convenience.
They won custody and then Nelle died, so then Chase came clean about the fake affair and the original two couples reunited. Except during their fake marriage Willow and Michael started to fall in love for real and Willow intended to break things off with Chase except he got sick (after being poisoned by Peter) and seemed likely to die, so she stayed with him as not to hurt him and basically fulfilled his "dying wish" of marrying her. Only Chase got better and had to move in with the Quartermaines due to being wheelchair bound, and it created a whole messy situation where Chase thought the marriage was real while Willow was stuck with him and still seeing Michael on the side.
This whole Chase resents Michael for stealing Willow from him and is still in love with her thing probably should've been done years ago since he largely forgave both of them for the affair, but it's another case of the writers not doing storylines when they make sense and instead waiting years down the line to follow up on the apparent repressed issues at play. Just like Willow suddenly have a dependency issue stemming from her time at DOD, when she first came to town she was traumatized sure but largely independent and prepared to start a new life for herself

The only reason seems to be Sonny is just close with both Jason and Michael, who he has also randomly decided he hates for some reason. I never understand this whole "I was never accepted as a true Quartermaine" thing he has because I'm pretty sure he was? When Drew was revealed to be Jason's twin there was the usual grumbling about splitting up the ELQ shares once again but they never had any issue with him until he decided to sleep with Michael's wife

Inconsistent writing. Ava and Sonny at each other's throats also came out of nowhere.
16
u/OkEstablishment3603 16h ago
Yeah he hates the quartermaines I remember. - and I am sure he never liked Sonny but this pure vitriol hate for Sonny and wanting to get revenge is so weird

u/rebelliousphase300 19h ago
Drew as this mustache twirling villain still just doesn't make any sense to me. Just a complete destruction of the character. Billy Miller's Drew laid a good foundation for the character and the writers just took this weird turn with sleeping with Willow (and now Drew must hate Michael for daring to be upset about his uncle sleeping with his wife), hard-core beef with the Qs, how nasty he is with Alexis, and now bringing down Sonny. Come on dude, really feel like the ball has been dropped with this character and I don't know what redemption arc can fix it.

u/HighlightIll5899 18h ago
I don't think it is out of nowhere. I think it really started when the whole Aurora/ELQ thing went down. Ned went against Drew, which led to the non merger, which ended up putting Drew in prison. Then in retaliation to him sleeping with Willow, Michael tanked the stock so he could purchase the majority and kick Drew out of Aurora, the company he started. So, he hates Ned and Michael. Tracy hates him because he went against the Quartermaines. The stuff with Alexis seems crazy out of place, but who knows. Sonny he has been trying to bring down since the election and prop 32(?). I think he still holds a little resentment towards Sonny because of the Jason/Drew thing.
13
u/GotShotInSchottler 1d ago
No reason at all. In fact, his whole villain arc is loosely stitched back to the asinine reason that he preemptively broke up with Carly upon Jason's return because she was ungrateful he went to prison for her. Drew had ZERO issues with Sonny.

Drew worked for and carried a weapon for Sonny a little while
It’s like if Billy Miller was Drew at a given time…it never happened
The Sidwell- Sonny battle made more sense none of what I see now makes historical sense
And I don’t think Hallmark Jason is working out…
13
u/Psych-nurse1979 17h ago
Makes zero sense. These storylines are crazy. Sometimes I think the writers are unaware of any previous script.

u/youngamy Team Scorpio 22h ago
Excellent question. Also relate why do Sonny and Ava hate each other suddenly? They have been fine in the same room for months.

u/GeniusGemini84 1d ago
its a stall tactic till thay get this Willow story wrapped up.
Drew needs to focus on putting both Nina and Willow behind bars. Sonny is the very least of his worries its stupid.

I had the same question as you. I’ve been searching my brain, trying to figure out when Drew developed such animosity towards Sonny.

u/girlofgold762 1d ago
I've just been slotting it into the "Evil Twin Syndrome" thing. Drew hates Jason for having the life he should have had so he hates everything good in Jason's life: Carly, Sonny, The Q's, Danny, Michael, etc....
7
u/EquivalentZebra1762 23h ago
By Sonny proudly proclaiming to everyone (including enemies) that he is now a solely legitimate business man isn't he in fact confessing to having been a criminal for decades? Ooops.

u/NarrativeNerd TeamJohnJaggerJacobJingleheimerCates 1d ago
Drew has no reason to hate Sonny.
… Unless it’s because CarSon dropped him when it was discovered that he wasn’t Jason but that should’ve been dealt with years ago. He still got with Carly, Sam, and had a great life until he blew it up himself.
I’m on Sonny’s side in this case.
4
u/sunnirays 1d ago
Even then they were never really against him, he just wasn't Jason and by the time Jason returned he already had decided to leave them to go start up Aurora and focus on Sam and the kids. Of course this is the same guy who now hates Danny's guts as though he didn't believe that was his son for years and was devastated when he learned he was only his nephew, but still kept an effort to be in his life and try to make peace with Jason for Danny and Jake's sakes.
They're basically just turning Drew into another AJ and it's so far from what BM established, the writers may have well just made into AJ

u/johntaylorsbangs Team Corinthos 1d ago
It’s like they can’t decide who will “take Sonny down” so no one ever does. Which would be cool if Sonny ever did anything interesting.

He’s more interesting in the mob. I know the mob stories bug some people but now…may be the worst I’ve seen in 49 years of watching
1
u/Whiskey_and_Gin_76 1d ago
Without the mob GH is just a bunch of drama. I know that’s the point of soaps but generally there are fundamental source points that then weave interconnecting stories/plots. Without a source point it’s just a bunch of petty/winy people picking fights.
3
u/kayemdubs 20h ago
Agree!!! With everyone getting into business this is just going to become another version of y&r. The mob keeps gh interesting.
2
u/Whiskey_and_Gin_76 18h ago
The mob is the only reason I've ever watched GH (I like the criminal element more than the romance drama). I honestly wouldn't have mind if it was an even bigger part of the overall show. I know it's an unpopular opinion but Sunny should have been preparing one of his sons to take over so then the mob storyline could have continued with a younger generation. Plus the mob element helped tie in the hospital since the violence often feed into the hospital personnel stories. If it becomes just business drama . . . goodness I'm afraid that's going to be overly boring.

I wonder if they are going to rewrite history and make Drew’s prison attack somehow Sonny’s fault
11
u/Winter-Brilliant3565 1d ago
I have a theory he’s just trying to hurt anyone Carly is close to. He went to prison for her and it messed up his brain. So I think subconsciously, it’s really about that.
13
u/Firegecko 1d ago
The whole "Pentonville messed his brain up and turned him into an asshole" narrative is such crap. Henrik messed with the guy's brain and kept him in a far worse hellhole for 2 or 3 years, but he came back to PC as the same nice guy he was before (and with his pre-2014 memories magically restored!). But now they expect us to believe that one little dust-up in American prison alters him to the point that he just suddenly does a complete 180 as a person? Are you kidding me?
It's just more lazy, phoned in writing.
4
u/mrgpsingh1999 19h ago
And you’re telling me that a former Navy SEAL couldn’t protect himself in prison?
5
u/Diligent-Baby-3805 Team Fizz 21h ago
I think it's supposed to be a way to get at Micheal and Jason, but it makes no sense because he said everyone he has a problem with is connected to Sonny, but outside the Qs Sonny isn't affiliated with anyone Drew doesn't like.
5
u/GH-Fan-1980 1d ago
Agreed the Writer's act like we don't actually watch this... came out of nowhere and stupid
4
u/Altruistic_Relief189 22h ago
The reason he gave was everyone who he has grudges with was tied to Sonny. But he mentioned Willow and never mentioned the Qs. So his logic is twisted.
5
u/apaw1129 19h ago

Wasn’t he going after Sonny with the prop thing he and Tracy were campaigning for? Now it has the added bonus of messing with Michael.
4
u/Mrdanrcstpurehell 1d ago
Is it all about Sonny having Brick plant evidence that pointed at Drew possibly having killed the judge. Did Drew know Sonny was behind the plant?
2
u/VirginiaUSA1964 Team OG/Legacy Characters 1d ago
They are making this stretch that his hate for Michael is Sonny's fault. It makes no sense, but maybe they don't want to have a Drew vs Michael situation.
Or CM asked to work with Mo.
5
u/Gold_Repair_3557 1d ago
And I’m not even sure where his hate for Michael came from. They had a fairly good relationship until Drew slept with Willow, and that bit was Drew’s doing.
1
u/No_Caramel9300 13h ago
Something to do with Aurora/ELQ, maybe? I feel like there were some weird business dealings that could have soured Drew on Michael, I don't recall.
2
u/EquivalentZebra1762 23h ago
He doesn't. It's just that in Sonny's brain he is the center of the universe. Drew should hate the Q's, Carly, Willow, Sidwell, and Nina. He doesn't have any particular beef with Sonny.

u/OriginalHeron3576 1d ago
Sonny went at Drew in the past after he fell out with Jason and Carly. His attitude changed but it wasn't huge. Drew is jealous that Sonny gets favorable treatment from the two of them and shut him out. Jack Sonny though I'm all for Drew knocking him down a peg. I wish Scotty was around to help him.
