Hi everyone! I’ve been working on a procedural plate tectonics simulation. This project started from my interest in geology and plate tectonics, and being curious about how different landscapes form on Earth. I wanted to share the latest version here and see how the overall evolution looks to you.

Third Picture with some collapse 10:21 am, he heard some rumblings at around 10:30 am as well. The pictures show what he thinks is rock collapse , before the glacier gave away from lack of support underneath. His explanation.

around 30 minutes later of the 3rd picture, the collapse occurred . CCTV time border at station 10:59.. an estimated 7 minutes to reach that place.

It seems like the Geological Society of London holds a careers fair every year, sometimes in London and sometimes somewhere else. This year it's in London at their HQ on Wednesday 4th Nov. Has anyone been before? Is it good? Are there companies to talk to who are hiring? Is anyone else going?

Hi all,

My dad is retiring and I want to get him some kind of cool rustic loupe triplet (I think that’s what they’re called??). A pocket magnifying glass that you flip out to inspect the gems/rocks etc

He’s been a geologist/mineralogist for 45 years and I thought it would be cool to get him a last little tool and like a leather case for it.

It seems like there’s not just shops for them online or like dedicated geology brick and motor places? I am not a geologist so I have no idea really about the magnifying glass scene.

If anyone can suggest cool brands, maybe with cool aesthetics and stuff? Something that’s like nice to look at and feel in the hand?

It was not a normal bounder. It was a monument on which Treaty of Betrawati was signed in Sino-Nepali war in October 2, 1792.

I’m sure people are studying it but as a mountaineer it seems like there must be many many other locations just like the one that triggered the debris flows in Tibet and Nepal. Pic. Nohku Crags, Colorado

Similar to the earlier video I shared, but with some more insights into the local geology and highlighted things like remnant ice underneath the gravel of the valley floor, so I thought it was a worth sharing also.

What master's degree or doctorate in geology could I pursue to earn a high income without having to be in the field for several weeks or months at a time? I'm not looking for something that doesn't require me to be in the field at all, just something that doesn't require such long periods of time, like work on oil platforms. Something balanced between fieldwork and earning enough to ensure financial stability? (Images of the geology of my country)

I came across this curious outcrop just to the east of Garnet Lake NW of Devils Postpile National Monument in the Sierra's on a recent trek along the John Muir Trail. I've marked it (tiny red X, on the east side of Garnet Lake) on an clipping of a USGS 1965 geo map of the area. The rocks are mapped as Triassic or Jurassic volcanics, either undifferentiated tuff/andesite or dacite. I thought orbicular granite when I saw it first and got quite excited - even though it didn't really look pictures I'd seen of that. I'd love to hear what folks think this is.
