I tried to test hardness and I think that I not only scratched it with stainless steel but also put a small fracture. In the last pic, the arrow is where I scratched and the fracture is underlined.

Apologies if this is not allowed but this stone has stumped me and several other jewelry lovers. It’s a matte black but it has some flash. Please help- what stone is this?

Just found in a rock pile in our driveway so I don't know exactly where it came from but I assume most likely somewhere in Marquette county. It scratches glass, feels pretty dense and heavy but seems like there's tiny air pockets throughout. Mainly wondering about the shiny green part but also curious about the red bits

We cannot find the dike as the hillside is completely weathered but anyway….

We also opened up a visible dyke about a half mile away that revealed dark red/ brown gemmy elbaite… on our new claim. Tho this one is much much better obviously

Found along the wissahickon creek in southeastern Pennsylvania. This is a specimen of mica schist containing garnets and an unknown black mineral. Any help on identification is greatly appreciated!

Is it possible that’s its petrified wood? Looks kind of similar to some of the petrified wood I’ve found down in southern Utah. Also what’s the blue colored stuff? Blue lace agate possibly?

Hello, I bought this in Kentucky and was told it was from Allen County, Kentucky. It was labeled as agate. I included a second specimen purchased from the same vendor from the same location that more clearly appears to be agate. I am no expert though and would love to get your opinion. Found what I believe to be Jasper but I’d like to know if this particular Jasper had a name? I don’t have dry picture because this was after I polished it 😅

Found while hiking near Poughkeepsie, NY. Three different pieces of what looks like the same type of rock. First three pics are wet, last one is dry taken before it was cleaned.

Blueish-grey when dry, more dark grey/black when wet. Tried identifying them using an app (which I know aren’t great, but typically point me in the general direction), and got different answers every time. Some were: biotite, petrified wood, chert, smoky quartz, and black moonstone. At the moment, I’m leaning toward it being chert, but am not sure.

My dad was gifted his old rock collection from when he lived in Australia in the 60s/70s. I suspect it’s some kind of quartz but I’ve never seen it this yellow / dark yellow colour? I find it hard to believe it could be citrine too. It’s quite dense and not very crumbly.
