This bike pictured was stolen today in front of the Golden Community Center between the hours of 11:00am - 12:10pm. The bike did not have the basket attached when stolen. Any information about its whereabouts would be great. If returned, a reward will be given. Despite my situation, I hope you (the reader) are having a good day. Thanks šŸ™

I was thinking of moving out there from CaƱon and had a few questions

I jumped ship, threw a dart, and landed here in CaƱon.... This is not the vibe.

When my lease is up in about 6 months I'd like to jump ship again but go somewhere where there is

  1. An educated public. 2. Blue 3. Somewhere where my special needs daughter can get services easier than driving an hour to springs or Pueblo. 4. Somewhere that will really appreciate the work I put into my patisserie business and I hate to say it, but has the money to spend on it. I'd love space though too and a view would be top notch if anyone knows where I can start aiming. Ty! šŸ–¤šŸ‘‹

How’s West Pleasant View for a young family?

I’m currently living near downtown Littleton, and I’m strongly considering a move to Golden for the usual reasons (bike, hike, mountains, etc) We are planning on having a family soon, and are currently deciding between West Pleasant Ciew (north of golden rd) or the neighborhoods north of 58. The latter seeems more family oriented, but WPV is a much better value. Is anyone here raising a family in WPV and wishing they were in a ā€œnicerā€ part of town?

My phone is dying and wanted to wait about a month to get one and just need something to use in the meantime. Anything will do! My current one is a bit of a safety hazard.

Thanks in advance!!

Cat sitter recommendations?

Does anyone have a trustworthy cat or house sitter they can recommend? We have two friendly, low maintenance, indoor only cats in South Golden that mostly just need human contact when we go out of town for a week at a time.

The job is basically visiting and playing with cats for 30 minutes a day. We’re looking for someone who really loves cats (not just needs $$) and won’t abuse access to our home. Could be a teen/student or rover, looking a personal recommendation.

Food and water are automated and just need to refilled every few days. And litter box needs to be scooped every few days too.

Happy to pay whatever is fair. Thanks for any recs!

Especially folks in older buildings, check your outlets. They should be no hotter than warm

Post image

Folks moving into town in older buildings (like me recently) especially, but all, regularly feel your outlet temps. Not in use outlets should be room temp, in use can be warm but never hot.

Shown is a not-in-use (nothing plugged in) outlet on the same circuit as only a 12A AC and Wifi router. Over 35 degrees ABOVE room temp with nothing plugged in, while the AC unit's outlet is more reasonable at 10deg above room temp. This is a fire waiting to happen. I finally got a thermal imaging gun to motivate my landlord to address my concerns, else I'll bring to the fire marshall.

Regularly (monthly) check your outlets (!!!)

Couple Looking for Rentals

Hi everyone,

My husband and I (late 20’s) are looking to rent in Golden Colorado.

We have incredibly great rental history, and incredibly poor credit history due to us prioritizing our rent over other things. We have three senior dogs and are looking for something under $2600.

If you or someone you know is renting, please reach out!

Unmarked white SUV on highway 58

I was driving home today on the highway 58 frontage road heading east, when I drove past a white SUV (possible jeep) with a roof rack. It took two flash photos of my vehicle. It looked like the camera may have been mounted to the roof rack. This happened right by the train museum entrance. I wasn’t going too fast either… maybe a couple MPH over the speed limit. Does anybody know what this is?! I really hope I don’t get some BS speeding ticket!!!!

Hazardous elec panel replacement, electricians left drywall with possible abesotos

hi folks,

My apartment had one of the notorious Federal Pacific Stab-Lok Panels replaced today. Insurance companies are increasingly rejecting policies on these homes with these panels - so I feel somewhat betrayed with assurances the electrical system is safe via my landlord. The panels have been widely discussed as a cause for concern in the industry for over 20 years after a lawsuit for the company committing fraud with the safety tests and subsequently going bankrupt.

The electricians left drywall/debris scattered around the apartment including the rugs - in each of the rooms as they tested outlets prior to their departure. Based on the age of the building (1920s) I suspect there is asbestos in the drywall. The landlord (Cashew Realty - recommend to avoid) isn't aware of asbestos and assured me the electricians would clean up.

Additionally, an outlet with no plugs inserted was significantly warm (tho not hot to the touch) while another outlet on the same circuit (AC) was on. I turned off the breaker for that circuit which cuts the WiFi. At this point, I don't feel safe leaving my AC on when I'm not home or I'm sleeping given this behavior. I don't see reset buttons on the bathroom outlet nor the bathroom breaker / same for kitchen.

I feel stuck: I feel my trust has been betrayed. She touts the apartment meets code, which to my understanding, simply meets the code of the time of install (which was a while ago for the electrical system it seems) and conflates code with safe since many of the grandfathered features have been phased in newer constructions. A part of me wants to hire an electrician / other code person to do a thorough review. I'd love the option to break this lease with the or if the unit violates the warranty of habitability since I don't see another option in the lease

Update: got a thermal gun & there's a 35deg temp difference between ambient and outlet not-in-use. This outlet should be room temp. Reminder: feel your outlets - they should not be hot, and they should be room temp or warm if in use. Photo was taken 60 mins after AC was turned on in a different outlet on the same circuit and I've turned the AC off and also tripped the breaker for that circuit.

Interest in Moving to Golden, CO

Hello!

My husband and I are seriously considering moving to Golden, CO. We currently live in SC, but we have family in Denver, and are looking to move closer to them, while also moving to a more liberal city that emphasizes better public education, since we have a two year old son. After much research, it seems like the public schools in Golden are wonderful.

We love Golden and the small town feel, and have visited several times, but we are curious what life with a young child is like there. We love the outdoors and daydream of being able to hike/explore nature every weekend, which is why we are more interested in Golden than Denver.

One of our main concerns is the threat of wildfires and the potential shutoff of power because of that, as well as being impacted by smoke. Do Golden locals find that wildfire risk impacts their daily life? We are also concerned about being outsiders moving into town, as we have lived in SC for about 20 years. Is it easy to make new friends there? Are the communities welcoming?

Would love any tips/insights about moving across the country to Golden!

Looking for some pals

Post image

36M with family, 2 and newborn looking for some pals. Just moved here not too long ago and have had a hard time meeting some friends in similar walks of life. Some of my other friends who are single or don’t have kids seem to discard invites anymore.

Anyways hoping to look for some friends who can relate. I’m pretty decent at mountain biking, snowboarding, working out, coffee, hiking etc. (if you can be good at some of those things lol). Have been taking my kid on Kids ride shotgun mainly near Boulder and Maryland mountain down fast money.

Shoot me a note if you’d like to meetup. Also, if you have any tips on my anti social ways. TLDR; it’s been tough without some friends.

Questions about the area

My wife and I are exploring moving to Golden. We currently live in downtown Littleton which is nice. I can walk to most things which is something I want to hold onto.

However, as much as I would like to live in the mountains, it’s not a realistic option right now. Golden is about as close as we can get. We love spending time in the town.

We have an 18 month old son whom we would love to see grow up in a neighborhood where kids actually play outside and there is a sense of community. Does this exist anywhere in golden?

Ideally, we would remain walking distance to downtown and all of the paths throughout town.

Curious to hear if anyone has suggestions on where to target? We know it’s stupid expensive but so is Littleton and what isn’t these days 🫩

Moving to Golden

My husband and I are looking into making the move from Fort Collins to Golden. We enjoy the idea of being closer to Denver and the ski mountains, with the ability to have some land with privacy edit looking for about an acre outside of town, we have looked at properties and cost.

Please give me the good, the bad, and the ugly (if there is any….) of living in this beautiful town. I am particularly interested in: meeting people in 30s-40s range (no kids for us but in the future)/ finding community, traffic, winter maintenance, water, home insurance premiums, tourism, restaurant variety, and childcare.

Help please I need a lawyer

We had a new driveway installed that started to crumble within 6 months of installation. We immediately reached out to the contractor with pictures. He said he'll come by and figure out fixing it. This was 3 years ago. We've tried repeatedly to get him to fix it including a letter from a lawyer threatening legal actions. The contractor then reached out and said he'll come fix it. Still has not. I have lots and lots of texts him saying he'll fix it. Anyway, our lawyer who wrote the initial letter has dropped out and we need a new lawyer. Please, if anyone has a recommendation we could use it.

Thank you!
