It is well known that the Swope estate inspired Gatsby's wild parties. In reality, Herbert Bayard Swope hosted regular weekly parties, and due to his profession, his home was swarmed by industry insiders, members of the press, athletes, entertainers, and actresses who arrived without any invitation. The estate sits in a location that commands a panoramic view of Manhasset Bay. The distance to the opposite shore, Manor Haven, is less than two kilometers. Therefore, while a small light on a private dock across the water might be visible depending on weather conditions, a light that shines continuously and reliably in green would have to be a harbor guide light or a channel marker placed at a certain height. Such lights are publicly managed. Furthermore, they always come in pairs with a red light. Since maritime traffic generally keeps to the right, ships pass to the right of the green light when entering the harbor, and to the right of the red light when leaving. This means that while a red light must have been visible alongside the green one, Daisy's house (or its general direction) lay just beyond that green light. Of course, putting up a private green bulb on a personal dock without authorization is illegal. Even in the 1920s, it was a misdemeanor punishable by a short prison sentence and a fine. If it were found to have caused a shipwreck, it would result in severe punishment in a maritime court. In short, the harbor light is not the glow of Daisy and Gatsby's pure love. It is a public light explicitly installed to be seen—and capable of being seen—by anyone.

The western end of Gateway Drive connects to Myrtle Drive. "Myrtle" refers to a shrub in the Myrtaceae family—specifically, the common myrtle (*Myrtus communis*). From spring through summer, it produces numerous small white flowers that emit a fragrance reminiscent of eucalyptus. Its fruit is edible and primarily used to season meat. Native to the Mediterranean coast, the plant was imported in the 1920s, a time when land developers favored it for use as a street tree; this was also the era when "Myrtle" was popular as a female given name. Today, however, it has become a rare name, borne by only one in 20,000 people. While heat-tolerant, the plant is somewhat sensitive to cold, which explains why the name is most famously associated with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Myrtle, California—both upscale resort destinations. Since developers frequently chose this name for roadways, streets named "Myrtle Drive" can be found throughout the United States.

The area where the Fitzgeralds lived for two years served as the setting for the story of *The Great Gatsby*. It is an established, upscale residential neighborhood situated on a hill (23 meters above sea level)—developed starting in 1911—located just a few hundred meters' walk from the Great Neck station on the Long Island Rail Road. However, one cannot see Manor Haven from this location. While the windows facing Gateway Drive—which runs east-to-west in front of the house—are oriented slightly toward the north, the attic room above the garage, where Fitzgerald actually did his writing, has a window facing only to the west. Currently, the property is used as both the headquarters and residence of a local carpentry firm; they offer a $500 discount if you book renovation work online. A local guide has noted on Google Maps that it is private property and should not be approached. Although the main house retains much of its original appearance, the front yard—while suitable for home parties or garage sales—is clearly that of an ordinary two-story private home, hardly the sort of place where one could host a wild, large-scale revelry. Interior photos from when the house was listed for sale show a living room and a dining room of similar size—spaces capable of accommodating a party of perhaps fifteen people at most.

Found this in Bañado La Estrella, a huge wetland in Formosa, northern Argentina.

The area is known for its flooded “ghost forests” and local stories tied to the urutaú, a bird with an eerie call that sounds almost like someone crying.

Then I rotated the satellite view and noticed this shape.

Two dark “eye sockets”, something like a nose, and a pretty clear skull-like outline.

Probably just pareidolia… but it fits the place a little too well.
