I think Ontario is an Indian name that sounds good. If anything rename those Canadian geese.

Because that is the US official name of the lake. The US government changed the name of the lake and Google maps reflects the official name.. Google is not in a position to decide what to name lakes and such.

MapQuest is in that position.

MapQuest is so irrelevant that Trump admin will not bother going after them

How the GNIS Lake Ontario/Lake America name change in the U.S. will appear in Maps
The U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has formally changed the name for "Lake Ontario" to "Lake America" in the United States. Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS for the U.S., people using Maps in the U.S. will see "Lake America," those in Canada will continue to see "Lake Ontario," and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names. These updates follow our long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary from country to country, and are starting to roll out now.
As much as I think Google deserves shit for bowing down to this stupid name change the proper ass holes to contact and yell at can be found here

The fact he can just change place names on a whim is also ridiculous.
And for Google (or any company) to go along with this is embarrassing.

I don't like the name change myself but I know executive orders don't mean much as next president can change it back. Same with Gulf of Mexico. Be different if it was voted in by Congress. Next president can overturn every executive order he has made. Depending on the seat count changes on the midterms coming up if the Democrats get enough seats they will have the power of veto. If they do win it's likely that Trump will resign probably as of noon the next day. Vice president would be a lame duck and no way Trump will stay for that cause he would lose power and his ego isn't going to let him be a lame duck president.

I changed my Results Region in Google Maps to Canada and it's back to the proper name of Lake Ontario now.

I just submitted a correction to Google. It won't change anything but maybe someone there sees it and they throw it in the discard pile with all of the other corrections.

Lol, there nothing much regular user for Google can do about it. Submit a feedback or vent and then it just moving forward. I don't agree with the name change but we have no control over that
