If you haven't heard yet, we're putting on a free dinner every month for the men in our community. Here's the details:

Location: Roots Gastrohub

Date: Sept 1st and every first Tues of the month

Time: 6-8 pm

Why?: Because we know how hard it is to find community and support as men and there are a lot of stigmas surrounding our mental health. We just want to break those barriers. We also believe that mentally healthy men are a net positive for the community as a whole. We're better equipped to take care of our loved ones when we take care of ourselves and have a good group of friends around us.

No commitments are required but we do have a couple of asks for attendees. First, no politics or religion. Both topics are polarizing. We're trying to come together and unite, not divide. Second, this is a sober space, however, everyone is welcome. Third, this is NOT therapy. We're happy to help point you in the right direction if you need help, but we aren't here to diagnose or even tell you what to do. Fourth, bring an appetite. Enzo's Italian restaurant has graciously agreed to provide the food at no cost! Give them and Roots a shout!

If you've been to one of our dinners, we'd love for you to share your thoughts! It may not be for everyone, but we hope you've enjoyed it so far!

I didnt think it was possible but the housing market in Phoenix AZ is better than GJ. Newer homes, bigger yard.

I always thought big cities would cost more. Im new to this adulting stuff but it sucks for my generation that everything post covid is beyond achievable for us.

Perhaps a trip to the casino will better my odds of homeownership

Is anyone concerned that the entire affordability task force is made up of real-estate entities and homebuilders who are trying to repeal codes?

Specifically TEDs and bikes and peds?

They claim its to make it more affordable for the home buyer. I noticed that all of these people have their hands in each other's pockets. Diane schewenke is helping the HBA do this.

These people are trying to buffer their bottom line but cutting back regulations. They do not want to lose money.

Please tell the city that this "board" is inappropriate and needs to be shut down!

Every Coloradan needs a place to live. Building more homes people can afford near job centers means more opportunity for families and businesses to thrive.

traveling from eastern CO and wanted to spend some time in GJ. is walmart my best bet or does anyone know of a more secluded area i can park? i dont want to get in trouble.

Passing through Grand Junction for a few days, we spent this afternoon enjoying the drive through Colorado National Monument. The scenery was gorgeous and well worth the trip. We've also found Grand Junction to be a fun city - a place I've driven by countless times until this visit. The local sights, downtown, and the hiking and biking in the area are genuinely impressive.

There was a situation today, however, that needs to be addressed.

As a mountain biker, I have a question for the road cyclists in the crowed. Why is it that some road cyclists cop the attitude that the road is theirs exclusively? The last 5 miles of our scenic drive through the Monument, while complying with the posted speed limits, through tunnels and sharp, steep, downhill hairpin curves with no shoulders, a cyclist - who clearly has anger issues - decided that I wasn't going fast enough for him and thought it was a good idea to yell and tailgate as we headed down the hill. I pulled over at the first opportunity and when he passed, I was greeted with the one-fingered salute. The humorous part of the story is that when the road leveled and began a minor climb, this guy made a point of not allowing me to pass him. When traffic started to back up behind the two of us, he calmed down for half a minute, and let us all pass. Of course we were greeted with more unpleasantries.

I get the need for speed going downhill. I get that riders would rather not brake more than planned. However, this road is a public highway on federal property with posted speed limits. Frankly, I am not in a hurry, but at the same time I will pull off when it is safe to do so. That drive is meant to be enjoyed and not be pushed by some idiot who thinks he has the right of way in every circumstance, and his personal need for speed trumps everything else.

I'm not surprised that road cyclists, in general, have a bad reputation. This is not to say that I personally agree - 99% are safe and situationally aware. It's the 1% that make a bad example for the sport, as was the case in point this afternoon.

Please, everyone be safe out there. Be aware that, especially on a scenic highway in a National Park or Monument, that there will be traffic that won't appreciate being pushed by someone who thinks his speed is more important than sharing the highway with vehicular traffic. That roadway is not his personal downhill speedway, there will be tourist traffic taking in the sights, which for most of us, is worth the time to enjoy.

The rest of our time here has been fantastic, and despite the encounter with a thoughtless cyclist, we will return.
