Help/Question Bake-off League
Hello! I am making a British Bake-Off League for the next coming season.
How I was it to work: there are 6 people playing. With 12 contestants, each person will draft two people. Each episode there will be the same point systems. Whichever contestant has the most points at the end of the season wins.
I need help with some positive points. So far I have these ideas:
Survives (positive points)
Eliminated (negative points)
Star Baker (positive points)
Technical Winner (positive points)
Paul Handshake (positive points)
Cries during a challenge (negative points)
Catastrophic challenge events (3 levels of points: full recovery (judges would have never known/didn’t notice- positive points), partial repair (judges noticed but it did not effect their judging- positive points but less than full recovery points), and no recovery (could not fix and judging altered because of event)
I feel like there are a lot of negatives and not a lot of positives unless the contestant wins a challenge. I was thinking something like “contestant uses rosewater, lavender, or matcha, but judges like it or used the correct amount”. Stuff like that. Any ideas?
Edit: I don’t think I was points for specific episode themes. Like “under proofed bread”. I’d like the points to be the same for each episode.

What if each participant also got an animal assigned and then if the animal appeared in the wild on screen, in a decoration or on Noel's sweater they received extra points that week? I'm following. This would be very fun to join in!

There should be points if they mention how warm the weather is. Extra points if they take the ambient temperature with a temperature probe.

I also think you could make everything worth positive points, nothing negative. It would make the scorekeeping simpler. Just things to watch and if your baker does it, you get the points. But I do like your ideas a lot!!

We've been running a rather large league for a few years now, with a website and everything lol https://danielkotnik209.wixsite.com/underthetent/scoring
This details how we score things.

Oh this is SO fun and I definitely want to do this with my friend group! Here are some ideas that are coming to me quickly (I may have more later)- points for positive comments in the categories of flavors, texture, and bake. Negative points for style over substance. Maybe positive points for dancing or otherwise doing something extra goofy with the hosts?

You could just make the positive stuff worth like 20-40 points and the negative stuff 5-15

That’s a good idea. Originally I was making the negative and positive points too similar.
I can share my spreadsheet when I am finished!

This is definitely going to be fun! I’m interested when you have it all set

Fun!!
A thought on catastrophe points: can’t be applied equitably. A super baker might have no catastrophes and a weaker baker could have numerous catastrophes with recoveries and end up earning lots more points than consistent bakers.
Serving floor food should be a minus point 😀 Serving floor food, but disclosing it should be neutral on points.
Maybe points for technical challenge ranking of place 1, 2 and 3? And maybe a negative point for being last place in technical?
Eliminated does not need negative points. I mean they can’t earn more points after they are gone.
Then some fun things: Everyone gets a point if Allison falls off a counter, or if Noel breaks something.
Break the kitchenAid glass bowl or jars (any glass explosion) that the baker causes is a negative point.
Plus points for a baker that helps another baker finish their thing on time.
Just some food for thought!

Positive points for coloquiumisms, i.e. Bag of Pants, Dog's Dinner, Oh My Giddy Aunt.

This is great! I guess I don’t like the idea of negative points for crying though. I think a meltdown might be a better description. You know - like throwing your bake in the bin because part of it was melting. 🫠 But who would do that? 😆

I posted an image of the point system I landed on. Thank you everyone who threw out ideas! https://www.reddit.com/r/GreatBritishBakeOff/s/NTk7salQqe

I run a Bake Off league, but it runs differently.
And yes, it is very gingham

Helps another baker. Is familiar with the technical. Uses family recipe. Feeds the hosts. Makes backups, uses backups. Uses smell or sound to judge the cooking of their bake. Bonus points to the cleanest apron during Chocolate Week.
