Anyone know when the bakers will be revealed for this year? I think in previous years it’d happen by now!?

After searching, I wasn’t able to find an active subreddit doing a weekly bake-along challenge for the GBBO, so I created one.

For those who were interested, here is the point system for my fantasy league. Thank you for everyone’s input! I made all points positive so even underdogs gets points and we all have fun.

I’m rewatching collection 12 on Netflix and it’s bread week and I am just once again blown away by just how good Dylan’s bread was! Paul’s comments to him were just amazing!

GBBO has become one of my absolute favorite comfort shows. I literally have it on at least once a day in the background of my life because it makes me happy and calms me. I eventually discovered the Great Canadian Bake Off which I like but it doesn't quite have the same vibe. Eventually I stumbled onto The Great Pottery Throw Down and omg my dreams were answered. It's so lovely and charming, but also funny - I frequently laugh out loud - and it's not overly saccharine like Canadian Bake Off can be. The creativity and talent of the potters is unreal. I just love seeing their creations each week. Can't recommend it enough. Sadly, I've only got a couple more seasons and then the last 2 aren't available anywhere in the US - even to purchase. So I'll have to wait patiently. But this will definitely be added to my comfort show rotation. I also do like Interior Design Masters and I started The Great British Sewing Bee which I plan to go back to after Throw Down. Both are really good, but Throw Down has still been my favorite UK reality competition show thus far (aside from GBBO)

PS For the most part, I really did like the show a lot from the beginning but it gets even better after the first couple seasons.

I've been listening to some recent podcast and gee is she a breath of fresh air to the world. She's promoting her new book and I wondered if anyone has read yet?

Every time these guys bake a cake or brownies and have to guess when its done. Are they not allowed to use a toothpick to check the doneness in the middle? Is this a regional thing they dont do in Britain? Or is it a fancy people thing and Paul Hollywood would have their head.

Anyone else get irked when they said the only way to make a good American pie is to make it British? I love pie! I hate store bought pie (like mass produced and premade crust), but I love pies with homemade crust. And bakeries that make crust from scratch can have amazing pies!

Hello! I am making a British Bake-Off League for the next coming season.

How I was it to work: there are 6 people playing. With 12 contestants, each person will draft two people. Each episode there will be the same point systems. Whichever contestant has the most points at the end of the season wins.

I need help with some positive points. So far I have these ideas:
Survives (positive points)
Eliminated (negative points)
Star Baker (positive points)
Technical Winner (positive points)
Paul Handshake (positive points)
Cries during a challenge (negative points)
Catastrophic challenge events (3 levels of points: full recovery (judges would have never known/didn’t notice- positive points), partial repair (judges noticed but it did not effect their judging- positive points but less than full recovery points), and no recovery (could not fix and judging altered because of event)

I feel like there are a lot of negatives and not a lot of positives unless the contestant wins a challenge. I was thinking something like “contestant uses rosewater, lavender, or matcha, but judges like it or used the correct amount”. Stuff like that. Any ideas?

Edit: I don’t think I was points for specific episode themes. Like “under proofed bread”. I’d like the points to be the same for each episode.

Since this is a British Show, they will obviously be doing a lot of British/European baking, and notice that a lot of stuff done on the show is seldom featured on US cooking media. The only place I have seen a substantial amount of the material done on the GBBO in the US is on Julia Child's old shows. Like she has done choux pastry and what to make with it, genoise sponge, bavarois, French breads, fruit tarts, a "non collapsable souffle" that was similar to the twice baked souffles in the 10th season finale technical apart from only baking it once, and things made with puff pastry, along with how to make the said pastry.

I find these shows really nice to watch, since we don't get as many details of recipes on the show, or measurements, whereas on Julia Child's shows she shows us how to make these kinds of dishes, with lots of detail and instruction on how to make it, similar to the specials where the judges would show us how to make the technical challenges, as well as what they would make for the signature and showstopper challenges. Anyone else find anything made on the GBBO on American cooking shows?

Do you think that the winner should be based off of how they do in the final ONLY or should the judges also consider the baker’s overall run? Sometimes someone is a fantastic baker and it’s so hard to see them lose just because of the final week.

I am excitedly awaiting the new season. Anyone have ideas about the opening skit - especially with Nigella Lawson joining GBBO? I am thinking about the Odyssey with Nigella journey to GBBO.

While I understand why they use the glass bowls for the show, the amount of times they've shattered is amazing to me, and they tend to shatter quite explosively.

While I can only remember someone getting cut once, I think the contestants during the other times were just lucky that they weren't injured.

I do like that they keep these scenes (and the cuts, burns, feinting etc), but I think if this was an American show, Kitchenaid would have sued them to stop airing the incidents.

Its the last week of July this week and I was wondering does anyone know when and what day we should expect a first trailer or a picture usually we would be getting a trailer right now

Looking to fill the GBBS void- I’ve watched some GCBS but not quite the same, but do love that they embroider the bakers name on the apron! Any other shows up to the GBBS caliber?

I've been watching bakeoff from newest to oldest seasons and i just got to season 5 and i absolutely love the little history lessons they have about specifics foods in most episodes, and I'm wondering, is it a just in this season or was it something they always did? and is there a reason for them to have stopped? i think they're so fun!

Silly thought in my head that I must share with Reddit: I am convinced that GBBO finds the most truly delightful, wholesome, kind hearted people. Every single season has just the loveliest bunch, I want to be all of their friends and to be in their group chats. What in the world does baking do to one’s character to make them so wonderful? Whoever casts the contestants needs to take their methods and make a dating app algorithm or something lol!

(I have never looked into any contestants beyond the show, please don’t ruin my delusions if some are actually awful hahahah)
