Hi, I’ll be going on a graduation trip with my class mates and close friends. We can’t decide on where to go in Greece (next July for a week). Past years have gone to Zakinthos but we’re thinking the tourists there might make it unbearable and overall we haven’t heard good things about the safety there due to those tourists. We’ve also been considering Rhodes but some of us are worried about how it might not be suited with good clubbing options for 18-19 year olds.

We’re looking for a place that has a younger crowd in clubs with good clubbing and nightlife options, but also nice scenery and potential cultural aspects overall, so we can do other things as well past just going out. Preferably, a small/medium city by the beach so we don’t have to rely con taxis as we aren’t renting cars.We did like the idea of an island as that’s been the “tradition” at our school, but if other options are recommended we’ll look into anything.

If anyone has recs let me know!!

I will be coming to Greece to run the Athens Marathon in early November. With work schedules being as they are, I can only spend a week away from home.

My question is whether I should plan a few nights outside the city or should I make things easier on myself after completing the 42km run by remaining in Athens and planning day trips?

If I were to stay outside Athens, I was thinking 2 nights in Nafplion to see the sights near there, but am open to other ideas!

For my girlfriends 29th birthday we are planning a short trip of 2 nights from Athens to an island. Since we have the flight back from athens in the mid afternoon we dont want to go too far.

Now the choices are not too easy:

Hydra: very recommended and has a lot of charm, it would just be nice to have a little bit of island feeling and to be able to go to the beach and swim. Also we are not looking to party but it would be nice not to have an empty town at night (dont know but hydra looks very tiny).

Serifos or Sifnos. I dont know too much about them other than that they are highly redarded for food.

Spetses.
Agistri.
Kythnos.
I dont know too much about those.
Other islands?

Again, we are not looking to party, but to stay in a romantic village with a little bit of nightlife (bars) and some nice scenery, good food and if possible beaches.
We travelled mostly the cyclades until now and loved Koufonissi.

Landed in Santorini yesterday after a domestic connection through Athens and my luggage has not arrived. Lost and found desk at Santorini said it was still in Athens and to fill out a form but could not give me an estimate when the luggage would arrive, what flight it would be on or any other info apart from the form. Would anyone know how long it usually takes for them to return luggage? Slightly freaking out as I nothing with me !!

Hi all, should start by saying im a greek-american male in my 30s who visits greece once/year and the last couple trips have been centered around athina. 3 weeks in monastiraki one year, 3 weeks in chalandri (rented a car as well) the other. Loved both for different reasons. Monastiraki was a lot of fun, while chalandri was really cool with trees everywhere and quality non-tourist food options. Also made going to panathinaikos basketball/soccer games really easy. This year I want something different. I appreciate areas with lots of trees, want to be in an area with great bars where I can mingle with locals, have easy access to train/tram to get to the kentro, and have plenty of purely "local", quality restaurants. One thing i didnt like about monastiraki was that when I wanted to watch sport games, I could never find any classic kafeteries/all day spots where locals lounge and watch the matches. I only found good spots like that outside the kentro.

Is Ilisia/Zografou good for a 30yo male or is it too young and full of students ? Perhaps pangrati/panormou/ambelokipoi instead ? I was looking at places around plateia agiou thoma and that area looks really cool.

Nea Smyrni? Looks like the plateia is full of stuff and has a tram. But is it a fun place for a single guy?

Palaio Faliro seems to be a happening place- but maybe too far from the kentro?

Im open to lots of suggestions. Please include whether renting a car would be worth it for any area thats recommended.

I do plan on going to oaka again a few times during my trip, which I know in the notia proastia will be a pain in the ass. But I'm still open to it

My partner and I are supposed to go to Santorini next week, and I’m starting to get a bit worried because of everything that’s happening in the region right now.
We’re from Romania and we’ve been following the news about the situation in the Middle East, the tensions involving Greece and Turkey, and Greece increasing its air defence. I know Santorini itself is nowhere near a conflict zone, but I’m wondering how concerned people in Greece actually are at the moment.
For those who are currently in Greece or live there: does everything feel normal? Would you personally still go on holiday to Santorini right now?
Our return flight is on September 11, so we’re trying to decide whether we should just go ahead with the trip or reconsider.
I’m not looking for anyone to predict whether something will happen — I’d just really appreciate a realistic perspective from people who are actually in Greece.

Hi, we’ve planned a trip to the cyclades from the last week of September until the 11th october. We’re going to serifos first and milos after. Will there already be a lot of the restaurants and shops closed down or is everything still operating normally like in high-season?
We’ve never went this late and we are hoping to spend some chill days on the beach without as many people as in the high-season. But we would still like the islands to not feel “closed” and be completely empty.

Hello! We are going to Santorini for 3 days, staying in Perissa. I’ve rented a car to pickup at the airport, but am starting to feel very anxious about driving up the mountain and cliffs. I’ve driven in Messinia, but not Athens.

Should I just arrange a transfer service instead? I’m an anxious driver, fine in city situations but don’t like driving on highways or cliffs.

Flying Aegean air from HER - JTR tomorrow. It was chaotic when we arrived HER few days ago. Do I need extra time to navigate the HER airport?? We are not checking any bags.. I thought 75 min was a good buffer.. is this too short??

My research has turned up that most of what you find in the markets is tourist bait made in china garbage, and that authentic Greek made products are hard to come by.

Hello. After travelling for quite a while, I finally want to visit Greece to conclude my summer with typical sun and sea.
I obviously want to stay on island(s) for about 2 weeks, but I don’t know what to choose.
Normally with all my heart I prefer landscapes which look like edge of the world, empty beaches with as little people as possible and beautiful horizons (think of Cofete - Fuerteventura, Famara - Lanzarote, Bretagne in France).
I am not into all-inclusive type of resorts; I want something authentic and more calm with breathtaking sceneries and as little man-made things around as possible.
I did read a lot here, but cannot make up my mind.

Something breathtakingly beautiful, authentic with beautiful beaches, little amount of party people (you know there are those streets in Spain full of British kind of bars — hate it everywhere aside of Britain); budget-friendly and important — accessible around without car or bicycle.

Maybe not one but two or more suggestions.

I'm solo traveling and have all my hotels/flights booked, but I'm wondering about tours. I have tours my first few days in Athens so I can turn my brain off and be shuttled around. Once I get to Naxos and Crete, all I have booked so far is a sunset boat tour. I don't know how exhausted I'll be, so I wanted to leave a day or two without any time constraints/commitments. I plan on booking surfing/horseback riding since those seem less common, and I assume there will be more flexibility with the walking, food, and boat tours since they are more plentiful. But would they be plentiful enough for day before or day of bookings?

I'd appreciate any insight into tours/excursions!

I am going to Crete for 11 days, then Athens for 3. I've been doing a lot of research but the reviews are very mixed at this point I just don't know what to do. Some suggest renting a car but then I hear the massive complaints about people not being able to find parking in town and the roads being very narrow Plus I've seen commentary about locals not abiding by their own laws and driving all over the roads. I thought about just paying for taxis, buses, fairies and or scooters but I'm worried that that will rack up very quickly. For those that have traveled to Crete and Athens what would you suggest? I do want to go to the pink sand beach and Knossos Castle. So still having a hard time deciding what town I'm going to stay in as well, while in Crete.

Just wrapped up a trip to Kefalonia and stayed at Eliamos on the southern coast. I'm still buzzing from it and wanted to drop a review because it blew me away. I honestly think it’s the nicest property on the island of kefalonia right now.

Here is the breakdown of why it’s so good:

• The Vibe & Setup: It’s a super intimate, design-forward 5-star retreat with only 12 cliffside villas. It feels incredibly private and completely blended into nature.
• The Pools: The main infinity pool is stunning, but almost every single villa has its own private saltwater infinity pool. The views looking right out over the sea are insane.
• The Food: Unbelievable. It basically tastes like a five-star, refined version of a traditional Greek home-cooked meal. They use fresh seafood, local olive oil, and herbs they literally pick straight from their own garden that morning.
• Service: Flawless. The staff treats you like family but somehow anticipates absolutely everything you need before you even ask.
• Wellness: They have this amazing open-air wooden gym and spa area right under the olive trees. Doing yoga and getting a massage out there was a highlight.
• The Boat: They have a brand-new boat that you can charter for private, bespoke day trips. We used it to explore hidden beaches, secret swim spots, and neighboring islands without dealing with crowds.

It was absolutely beautiful and easily the most exceptional stay I’ve had in Greece.

Has anyone else stayed here recently? Curious if you think any other hotel on Kefalonia even comes close to this level, because to me, it's easily #1.

Hi all, we will be travelling to Greece in around a week to visit Crete and then take the 8am ferry to Milos that will stop in Santorini for a 5-hr total layover (including getting into Fira and back on time). We will be doing this transfer day on Sunday, September 13th. A few questions because I haven’t been able to find much on this ferry online…

We are planning on storing our checked luggage at the Athinios port and then taking either a KTEL standard bus, semi-private shuttle, or private transfer to get into Fira for a quick lunch and browse around before we’d need to get back to the port likely by (what I estimate) 1:30pm (ferry departs at 2:30pm).

I’m not seeing any bus schedules online going from the port into Fira at that time but I’ve heard they are timed around ferry arrivals/departures? How will we know for sure until we arrive on the island (I checked the KTEL website and couldn’t find anything about the port departure times)?

If anyone has taken at least one of the legs of the Seajets ferry and/or would recommend a certain type of transportation company to get into Fira and back on time we would very much appreciate it!!! Ideally looking for a semi-private round trip shuttle if not the KTEL bus but not sure if I need to make two separate bookings?
