Grieving Onwards over the Rainbow Bridge

Our 11yo Bentley went over the bridge this afternoon; we recently discovered a fast-growing tumor in his chest at a visit for a limp, and sadly it was only temporarily controlled with treatment. We were happy to spend all day at the lake with him yesterday, and enjoyed watching him enjoy himself. Coming home today without the wagging tail to meet the front door was heartbreaking all over again.

Be well my friend ♥️

Advice Is it normal for greys to not lie on their beds?

Post image

Not sure if I need a bigger bed or if this is just a little quirk but Neptune almost never lies on his bed right

He usually has his head or legs off, but he has been on it fully and comfortably before and would have space to lie exactly how he is now but fully on the bed, is this normal for them? Other dogs I’ve had have never done this

Edit:
The answer was very very quickly yes thank you so much everyone!

I am absolutely gutted and can’t even function as my heart dog left with world far too soon. She just turned 9. I rushed her to the vet yesterday for stomach issues and it turned out to be pancreatitis and kidney failure. They were having trouble stabilizing her blood pressure and potassium overnight so we made the gut wrenching decision to put her down. She was only 9. I have no idea what happened. It feels so sudden. I’m so lost.

This is Maisie and Simon. Maisie is a Galga from Galgos del Sol in Spain. Simon came to us as an eight-week old pup from Kansas. I've put them on Greyhounds sub reddit for a while now. I love sharing pics of them and hopefully bringing a smile today.

Winter is coming

Hello and happy TOT. I feel like I’ve been asking a lot of questions lately but surprise I have more😂I’m looking for some advice or product suggestions for surviving the winter with a greyhound. I live in New England so we get COLD winters and chilly mornings are already upon us. I’m planning to buy a K9 voyagers winter coat for my guy as he already has a raincoat from them that fits him well and he doesn’t hate wearing(although he hates the rain) but my main concern is his paws. I live on a main road so the roads will be salted when we go for walks and I’ve seen people get their greyhounds booties which is part of why I’m asking far in advance because I don’t think Denny will be a fan of booties AT ALL. So im wondering if you guys use other things to protect their paws like a balm or if there are ways to get them used to booties because if that’s a necessity I want to start getting him used to them now. I’ve included some photos for the dog tax.

Shinji Can't Get on the Picnic Table

I've seen this boy running on trails and leap over logs on a trail as high as this picnic table, spring over a fence higher than this chasing deer, dock dive 14 feet with no running start, or jump into the back of our Bronco Sport which is equally high, but somehow the silly goof can't figure out how to get up here.

Advice Genuine question

How do you actually teach your grey obedience when their anatomy doesn’t allow them to sit or comfortably go into a “lay down” that’s not on their side? I feel like these basic commands are important for obedience and are close to impossible for our specific greyhound. Would love to know others experience with this!

Inscrutable greyhounds. New retiree is regressing a little bit. Advice?

I'm posting this question for my daughter who adopted a sweetheart of a retired racer, Lambo, a week and a half ago. (She doesn't have Reddit.)

This community has already been so kind and helpful already. This is her first dog, and my first granddog.

The first eight days went about as well as it could have. No toileting accidents in the apartment, good eating, good sleeping, and lots of petting and snuggling. He likes to pile up his toys on his various beds.

I came for a visit and we started leaving him alone in the apartment for 1 - 3.5 hours with a pet cam. It went great. I left on Sunday.

All of a sudden, though, he's refusing to go out. Won't be lured with love, encouragement, or his favorite treats. At first he wouldn't move past the end of the hallway. Now he doesn't want to go out the door. This resulted in him ultimately peeing in the apartment.

He went out successfully once after that, albeit with lots of hesitation.

The refusal started up again. She tried multiple times and just couldn't unfreeze him. (He's a big guy--80lbs.) He had an uncomfortable night, because he had to pee. They tried to leave again, no joy. He peed a bit in the apartment.

Finally he went along, but didn't make it out of the garage without peeing some in there.

Then he went outside and fully emptied his bladder. By all reports, it was impressive. I think it clearly indicates that he doesn't want to pee indoors, as he's just going a little here and there to relieve the pressure.

On that walk, he pooped--as can be expected, it was a crime scene. He'd been holding it so long.

Unsurprisingly, he seemed to feel much lighter and with pep in his step on the way back home. My daughter has done well--a lot of pleading, but no scolding or getting angry. She gave him lots of hugs and praise when he finally made it outside.

The hardest part is that he's largely unreadable. He's essentially silent. He doesn't startle in any obvious way at much of anything. He's very calm, but of course with the worried, pensive expression of many greyhounds. So far, he's got very little goofball in him. But he seems to like people very much. He seems content to have people approach him for a meet and greet.

Early on, a neighbor did that thing of shoving his tiny lab puppy under Lambo's nose while simultaneously asking if it was okay for them to "meet". Lambo did not eat the puppy, so result!

My daughter would love to help him through whatever's bothering him, but she just has no idea what it is!

Any and all advice is welcome.

Advice Anyone have experience with something similar?

Found this “blood blister” thing on my grey’s inner thigh a few months ago. He had it checked out while under for a dental and because it was squishy and small the vet decided to leave it be and we’d monitor it. It’s grown larger now and he already has a visit booked to check it out again in two weeks. Just curious if anyone has seen this on their baby and if they figured out what it was with their vet
