Hello all -

I am planning my bucket list trip to the Galapagos Islands around Dec 15, 2026. Due to travel logistics I have to spend two nights in Guayaquil (Fly in Saturday, Fly out to islands on Monday). Unfortunately - I did not do research Guayaquil much before I booked my tickets and now I am reading across multiple websites about safety and travel. Equally I have watched 10s of videos on YT about gringos traveling in Guayaquil with no issues.

Any suggestions on locations/area to stay and areas to avoid? Is it safe to take those 1 day (3-6 hours) day trip suggested on tripadvisor or viator?

Safe spots in Guayaquil for expats and tourists for socializing

Hello Guayaquileños,

I've been here in Guayaquil for a few years now, originally from the USA, but I've always wondered about car seats for kids. It seems like the vast majority of people who drive here with children do not use them. I try not to be a stereotypical ethnocentric asshole from the US, but I can't get over it. In the US, they are required by law and are those laws are strictly enforced. On top of that, culturally, people would react really negatively to people who don't use them. I realize that carseats can be expensive here, especially for high quality ones, but I see so many wealthy people without them as well. So it's not necessarily a cost issue. Why don't more people here use them? Is this a Guayas trait, or is this something that exists all over Ecuador?

¿Hay alguna sucursal que no te humille y donde puedas salir bien encuadrado en la cédula? 😢

La última vez que fui a sacar la mía, la cámara y la silla estaban en dos posiciones completamente distintas, así que la foto salió prácticamente en 3/4😭😭

Hey everyone! I am planning a trip to Ecuador in January. Recently I read a lot about the worsened safety situation. I would want to visit Quito, the Andes and Amazonas.

My my concern is the pacific coast which I would love to visit as well at the end of the trip. I am aware that the coastal towns and parts of Guayaquil are more problematic. However, I find conflicting information on touristy beach places such as Montañita, Ayampe or Los Frailes.

My main question is: how safe is it…
…to use Guayaquil solely as an airport
…to transfer afterwards to one of those beach places for a few days
…before flying home from Guayaquil

For context: I’m an experienced traveller (around 90 countries visited) who has been to LATAM several times before.

Saludos a todos, quisiera saber si alguien me podría ayudar con un contacto de un técnico o tienda donde se hagan arreglos y/o modificación de consolas de videojuegos. La consola en cuestión es una PS3 modelo CECH L01 FAT que creo que ya está en sus últimas debido a que se apaga luego de jugar no por mucho tiempo quizás unos 30 minutos.

What are the best high end restaurants in safe neighborhoods?

Muy buenas.  Soy un DJ hispano, pero no Ecuatoriano.  Vivo en Nueva York y tengo algunas bodas en cual hay una novia o novio ecuatoriano.  Converso con ellos antes de la fiesta de boda, y me dan listas que contienen algunos temas ecuatorianos muy buenos.

Pero también quiero sorprender a sus padres y parientes con algunos temazos que verdaderamente son Ecuatorianos.  Por eso les pido ayuda, a ver si me sugieren algún tema para la fiesta.

Hola, quisiera consultar a la comunidad si sabe de alguna peluquería/ barbería con las 3B. Ya saben calidad, precio. He tenido experiencias variadas con algunas peluquerias que se ven muy finas por fuera y no he quedado satisfecho con el resultado. De preferencia donde sepan hacer cortes con Fade que queden bacán 😄
