Professions post-patch

Hi! I’m looking to pick up the game again. How are the professions looking? Is warrior on par with Dervish again? Are paragons more playable?

I’ve been having a great time running around with four flesh golems in my team

The buff made MM teams so much more satisfying! All you need is one corpse to get the team started!

This does sound like a hell of a time

Paragons are in the best spot they've been in since they were released. Almost all their elites have a use-case and most skills are actually competitive for their function. It's a great time to try Paragon.

For the most part improvements across the board, Mesmer might be a little salty over their nerfs knocking Mesmerway down a peg or two(still very good just had some competition now)

Standout for me was buffs to smite monk and I still hold out hope for a divine favour buff. Minion buffs in cost and cast speed is nice for necro too.

I don’t play them personally but warriors do seem happy with what they got with their pass.

Edit:should be said Mesmers did get improvements in other areas too but I know people who have been doing the same thing for 10 ish years who are annoyed

I miss pre-nerf Mistrust and Wastrels.

para got a little better. but warrior is nowhere near close to dervish and its fine and okay that way.

depending on how you wanna spend ingame time all classes have their moments to shine

The new Pious Renewal derv has like 80% block chance and 50+ damage per enchantment removal due to Mirage Cloak change and Aura of Holy Might. Feels like easy solo.

The mirage cloak change is just dumb, why does such a defensive skill also need damage like this. Worst change they’ve done imo - they could’ve put the damage on some unused offensive skill.

It feels like they wanted something for those who don’t have Aura if Holy might yet, they also hotfixed it to need earth prayers for proper damage tbf.

What build is this? Do you have a link to one by chance?

Just play whatever you enjoy the most. heroes are strong enough that literally any class is playable

Warrior - Great solo prof

Dervish - Best runner

Paragon - Great for PvE

War got a crazy skull Crack buff that made it do some weird and fun farms. Doubt it'll ever beat derv just due to the aoe kit of dervs tbh.

Para got super strong buffs then slight nerfs. Was always a good pick up especially if you wanted to use heroic refrain and didn't mind the micro. Just very poor solo farm comparatively

The tl;dr of it is every class is getting buffs and adjustments lately. So just pick w.e you find fun and like the armor for.

If you are looking to just faceroll pve solo then para (HR) is probably easiest choice then maybe mes (easy slot for another esurge, panic, inept, keystone, VoR) , derv (PR, VoS, etc), necro(soultaker). Just due to their easy slots into mesmerway or massive aoe.

Mesmer would be my personal choice tbh..and you can start in proph for LDOA.

Warrior will never be as strong as derv, sans some wild nerfs, but that's not a reason not to play them.

wdym are paragons MORE playable lmao?

Paragons have been the best player character to lead the metacomp of all metacomps ever since HR was introduced....and that hasn't really changed :D

Warrior got a ton of buffs so it's a great class to play.

Warrior got a few toys, like Skull Crack, but are still largely outclassed by Derv. Warriors are still perfectly capable of doing all content, like any profession, but they will always live in Dev's shadow until one of the two has a major rework. Kind of how it goes when they reworked Derv by just giving it duplicates of a bunch of Warrior skills (and Splinter Weapon) when Dervs have built-in AoE via scythes.

Paragons were at their apex about a week ago when they had comically high DPS on the best support build in the game. Thankfully, it was nerfed. They are still very strong.

Warrior definitely not on par with Derv and I'd be shocked if they ever ended up that way. However, they're still tanky, good enough for DPS, and plenty capable with even more options available than before.

Overall, that's the main vibe now: each profession has considerably more options available than before. There's something to be said about some skills filling useless niches that make them not worth picking; but at the very least, a large number of skills in every profession have had adrenaline costs, energy costs, activation times, recharge times, and durations buffed to make them more competitive. Some skills have also had buffs outside these universal aspects to make them better too.
