Out of all the loan destinations Dortmund and the Bundesliga is absolutely one of the best outcomes. Not quite the full chaos ball of Ligue 1, and also Guardiola wasn't there long enough to completely crunch everyone's approach into the absurdly safe tactics that we have witnessed in the PL in previous seasons.

Villa fans just not capable of taking any blame it seems. Refs fault they couldn’t get a shot on target and PSR’s fault they put low release clauses in their contracts and buy Chelsea’s deadwood for £100m.
Their goalkeeper has a pass on him thought tbf

Their subs top comment on the post match is '17 fouls to 6' and they're incapable of seeing that as a problem about their team. Some how arsenal got away with it and was the favoured team. Levels of delusion are off the charts.

Seems about right. Love the chat about "if we had a free kick there it might have led to something" - come on, are you spurs in disguise?
Mad transfer window, most of the other top teams just buying each other's players and having their pants pull down for average talent.

Starting a game with a midfield of Ode-Rice-MLS and finishing it with Merino-Zubi-Bruno is an obscene level of depth.

Even if you don't rate Rogers, Alvarez, etc., the club should be getting our league-winning manager the players he wants, or at least players of the same calibre, which is why this summer has felt so frustrating.
Seems we have been trying to buy a marquee LW for 4 years now to no avail.

Too many people focus on red cards and pens when talking about refereeing, it's all the small challenges and yellow cards that keep fucking us over. Imagine Maatsen, Cash or McGinn on a yellow from about 10-15 minutes in when they first deserved them. Would have had to stop being so aggressive straight away, much easier for our wingers. But instead Cash comes off without anything, Maatsen get's one in the 96th when it doesn't matter and Tzolis get's one for a challenge that happened 5 times in that game unpunished.
We win though so it doesn't matter and it's an excuse if we don't win.

After all the injury crisis and fitness problems we have faced over the years and how difficult it was to navigate through so many competitions, Its shocking how we approach the attacking depth.
Im really confused honestly. To sell Trossard, Martinelli, Jesus and then loan out Nwaneri is already risky. But to only bring in Tzolis makes no sense at all. Overall our defence and midfield is in great shape but our attack I just don t understand this.
Your putting such a big workload on our current players its just so irresponsible. We need some last minute miracle with deadline day now.

Bruno G helps free up Odegaard so one may argue that the attack will actually be better than last year.
Add in the likes of Merino & Havertz who were missing for a large portion of last year; Saka & Odegaard seemingly back to full fitness. Man for man we could be even stronger despite the minor downgrade at LW

I'm tranquil. Its not a popular opinion but I think the team overall is better than it was last season.
MLS is like a new signing in midfield, and we brought in Bruno. The midfield depth is crazy.
Konsa is a shrewd buy who can help us get through this period without Saliba and then provide rotation options when Saliba is back. Ben White, for all his flaws, has great chemistry with Saka and Odegaard and can help unlock them both. With Timber coming back soon (hopefully), the defensive line looks to be in great shape.
The LW issues are overblown. We're clearly giving Calafiori a license to pop up in attack. Like Zinchenko shifting into midfield, the tactical tweak this season is Calafiori drifting into forward positions to overload defenses. I think that is going to work really well, especially with Eze who loves to drift in from the left, dragging defenders, and opening up a lot of space for Calafiori to exploit.

That penalty on Bruno not being given is scandalous. PGMOL are cheats. Last season because they didn’t steal the usual 10-15 points from us media stooges saying they helped us! Not holding our head under water is not the same as throwing us lifebuoy.
One goal could be important at the end of the season.
People won’t complain as loudly because we won but we should be raging about it, if we only moan like fuck about cheating refs when we lose we will be accused of sour grapes.
It’s a diabolical decision that they cleared in two seconds.
It is so bad it’s laughable

Akliouche, 24, 6ft right winger. 7G 11A, £43m. Could have sold Madueke, kept one of Trossard/Martinelli and had this guy as Sakas back up.
Ferran, 26, 6ft striker, can play LW, CF, RW, 21G 3A, £42m, 16G in the league, was linked to us before, would have been a good option.
Godts, 21, 5'9 left winger, can play across front 3, 17G 12A, £38m, would have been a decent signing, has a great playstyle
Not only did PSG choose one of these guys, they brought all 3 to back up Kvrateskelia, Dembele and Doue. Great prices for all 3 in this market but Berta couldnt even get a single one?
Make it make sense.

Stopping myself from bitching over attack for a bit, I have to say that us signing Bruno G is probably the best singular one in prem of the big clubs. Basically, Chelsea have created a separate ecosystem of player trading which is going to run separately on its own as a profit center.
They have deep links with clubs all across Europe. They have dealt with atleast 5 clubs for more than 1 player - Atlanta, Como, Palace, Villa, Spurs. They can find buyer for any of their player and that too at breathtaking speed. Club for sanchez found in 24 hours of them signing Martinez.
selling clubs happy to deal with them as they pay good price for very young players, while maintaining relaitions as they can buy any player from chelsea because they have so many players avaialble at all times.
Last year they held clubs to ransom for loaning their players. clubs paid them 5m to 15m in loan fees. which is unheard of really.
They are controlling supply of players, if fifa didnt intervene, it will be difficult to contain this and would lead to huge inflation in football. This summer was good reference of that.

Interestingly, most of the away games in which we dropped points are front-loaded this season. Our first five are Villa, Sunderland, Brighton, Forest, Liverpool from which we took five points last season (vs 33/39 in the others). Take ten from those and you've got to think we'll be tough to catch.

Thing is we never get this when it comes to signing defenders, never got it when we were signing dooel winners. Genuinely can't think of an example, seems everything is suddenly slick amongst the transfer committee in getting things done.
It's not so much the struggle of bringing players in, it's an awful market and I am not one for pretending Arsenal are state owned or an unhinged venture capitalist racket, I get Arsenal's place in the modern game and the club KSE want them to be. But all that means is you need to be smarter, and you're not fooling me into thinking there's no talented attackers out there who can work for us, so why does our brains disconnect the moment it involves someone playing in the final third?

I’d be the first person here to say that Emery’s team has been chopped and changed and the first few games would always be tough for him, they’ll be fine this season once the new players gel and that he’s done great things with Aston Villa
But I’m also tired of pretending or watching other people say he’s better than Arteta now. I know for sure that he would not have won a title with given Arteta‘s time and resources. Absolute dead narrative

Should have just kept Trossard and let him leave on a free next year.
17
u/AaronM1D1 my friend is ok, no? 4h ago
The window's been decent enough. We've cleared out the deadwood and brought in real quality. The fact we can completely rotate our defence/midfield without a quality drop-off is going to be huge, especially as injuries are always a factor. Vini was a very real possibility, Alvarez less so. Neither panned out, it is what it is.
I do worry about depth on the left, feels like we could've gone in for even a more modest upgrade on Nelli. That being said, there's no point splashing out for much of the same. Clearly, we didn't rate Ndiaye highly enough to go in for him, so I hope Ebz can do a job there as Tzolis acclimates. Chelsea is going to be a big litmus test.
The good news is that our midfield is looking unreal, and we're able to create and score from all over the pitch. No one knows what's going on with Gyok, but I think it's too early to say he's been written off. There'll be plenty of minutes for him this season, and I'm sure he'll feast off of Bruno et al. I'm not going to pretend he's perfect, but the bloke scores goals.

I have no doubt, Arsenal will keep on winning.
arteta will change formation. We will become more defensive, he will shoehorn some player there. He will find solution for sure. He always has. He excels in frugality.
Arteta got us 2nd 3 seasons in a row with 1 season without a CM and 2nd season without a striker. He is the reason we were champions.
Dont forget club has history of letting him down in market.
This is just another window of same old letting down. For winning PL after 22 years, his is rewarded by taking away 25 goals and assists from LW and replacing that with a guy from Belgium league. I am sure he will still find a way of winning by conceding even fewer goals. We may or may not win the title, but we are going to be there.

Villa looked quite good in their mid-block.
Suzuki looked really good on the ball and one spilled ball which went forward harmlessly was his only mistake in the game.
Jackson is good on the ball but the difference between him and a natural goal-scorer like Watkins is stark. Watkins would have made a lot more runs and looked to get into shooting opportunities. Loss of Watkins and Rogers will be massive for them. Can't see how they replace that with Jackson, Garnacho, Mbaye etc.
Only big hope for them is Manzambi - if he isn't an immediate G/A hit, they will struggle massively in attack.

Arteta keeps saying we need a 25 man squad to fight for multiple titles. With all the transfers out, I can count only a 24 man squad including Dowman. We are clearly short even in number terms.

Why are we masters at upgrading defense and midfield but so trash at improving the forward line.

Guys - Gyokeres can be frustrating but he isn’t complete shit. Can still trust him in Carabao Cup and CL group stages.
I also trust him to hustle and trouble defenders during last 20 mins of PL games.

Liverpool and Arsenal not partaking in the big 6 circlejerk fire sales this summer is interesting.
We were the only two clubs that didn't pull off a transaction with each other and the other 4 clubs. Red cartel and that lol

I'm gonna judge this window once it's over, but if things stay like this, then selling Martinelli and Trossard will prove to be an absolute shocker of a decision.
Our defense and midfield got stronger, no doubt. We have the same midfielders as last season, plus Bruno. That's incredible. Same defense, expect we have Konsa too. That's also huge.
Our attack however... We can win the league yet again, but the CL seems overly optimistic with the likes of Havertz, Gyökeres, Madueke, LW Eze, Tzolis... It's not that they're not good enough, they are inconsistent.

Looking at sheer numbers:
We've entered the transfer window with elite level defense and midfield and ok, but not great attack
We're exiting the transfer window with net profit from attack sales minus buys and we funneled that money to defense and midfield, lol

Arteta didn't rate Fofana so not sure what the headloss here is. A lot pf people just want transfer dopamine for the sake of it. Why bring in a 5th choice warm body just for the sake of it? We want level raisers.

Tzolis looks like he can’t take on fullbacks, I don’t see any sort of 1v1 bag in him.
This ain’t slander or hate just an observation, looks like he’d be better closer to goal but still early

What are we doing letting Ndiaye go to City like that? Were we just fucked because they effectively traded him for Grealish?

The likely bidding war for kroupi in January will probably chase us off. We’d be wise to just buy him now and rehab him ourselves. Bet we could do it under £100m, would be unusual to sign an injured player but I think there’s value in that approach in this ridiculous market.

Gapko pros:
has decent end product
no injury concerns
lots of experience
good in the air for a wide player
will cause generational spurs head loss
Gakpo cons:
can’t dribble
slow
addicted to hero ball
280k/wk

Retaining the title is a target that I can still see us doing.
But the whole point of signing an elite attacking option this summer is that we'll stand a better chance of winning the UCL.
But since we haven't, we'll have to rely on the same tactics to go all the way this time around.
And there's also the fact that the likes of Kroupi and other attackers will have the interest of other teams.
Not just us.

I was worried that whatever LW signing we pivoted to after missing out on Vini Jr was going to be underwhelming by comparison
Little did I know that the LW we would pivot to was…no one

Personally I think it’s very important to maintain a good collaborative relationship with other clubs when it comes to selling/buying. Look at how fast Chelsea get business done, barely any tug of war, both in selling and buying.
More than the incomings and outgoings I’m concerned about the way Berta seems to do business. Villa and Newcastle both expressed displeasure with how he negotiates and for both Guimaraes and Konsa Josh had to step in to seal the deal.
And for all of his “Turkish” and “Italian” connections… yeah I’m not even gonna bother with that
