I feel at least 4% more manly now that I know how to pilot an excavator.

182

u/DreadPiratteRoberts 1d ago

.... the horn helps alot!!

70

u/tetsuo_7w 1d ago

Beep! That part got me.

24

u/Rude_and_Crude84 1d ago

The beep could've definitely been a bit deeper of a decibel but louder since it's on a big machine.

5

u/jondubb 1d ago

No, it should contain the ooga horn for the lulz

AWESOOOOOME.

This was the missing piece for me personally.

If I ever run into a situation where I need to operate a machine like this, I WILL REMEMBER!

4

u/molehunterz 1d ago

Wait till you find out that the controls can be switched LOL

20

u/theb00mScicle 1d ago

Yea, but can you make a turn??

(You let off the left and drive with only the right to make a left turn, and opposite for a right turn, you got this, go try it on the local excavator down the road, preferably at night, less people to see you mess up)

18

u/stevedore2024 1d ago

All the 80s kids learned how to drive tracked vehicles in the Battlezone arcade game.

All the 2000s kids learned how to drive tracked vehicles in Katamari Damacy.

2

u/Evepaul 1d ago

Can you push one forwards and the other backwards to make a tighter turn?

4

u/Provocative_Potatoes 1d ago

Yes but easily tears up the ground your tracks dig into so just be mindful how quickly you turn nice grass into 1ft clumps of dirt

Me too! I finally grew some chest hair. That'll look interesting in my bikini.

3

u/Targaryen-ish 1d ago

That’s quite a bit!

3

u/Honda_TypeR 1d ago

That’s brings you up to what now… 2%?

3

u/Slow_Space8943 1d ago

You just lost 3 1/3 for saying that you know how to pilot an excavator……

Someone operates an excavator, that is why they call the person an operator and not a pilot

2

u/Eliphas_Black 1d ago

I’m ready, where do I sign up? 🫡

2

u/ergonomic_logic 20h ago

I'm a woman and I too feel this

Man if i ever got my hands on one you’d see my backyard turned into a ravine

40

u/funnyguy99207 1d ago

Oh, totally. I've been considering renting one for a week just to play...lol!

16

u/mrmemo 1d ago

They're a fucking blast, get the little tractor/loader/backhoe unit.

They're remarkably capable little things, and they'll knock out small to moderate yard projects easy.

8

u/funnyguy99207 1d ago

I gotta excavate first. The boulder harvest is nigh...lol

2

u/ALitreOhCola 13h ago

I once got given a proper full size tractor (front end loader) to use in outback Australia, when I was a farmhand in my 20s on a working holiday visa.

Farmer gave me about a 60 seconds explanation in mostly Aussie slang and then let me loose with a task and went off to do farmer stuff.

I was grinning ear to ear the whole time.

3

u/TheRuckyDubber 1d ago

Just remember to get stuff marked. “Call before you dig”. (Generally 811). You don’t want to make weekend of playing into a very expensive and inconvenient phone call or 5 afterwards.

Can I come over & play? I'll have to be back for dinner but we could have alllllll day.

8

u/funnyguy99207 1d ago

Bring the kids. They can learn how to fill & maneuver a wheelbarrow, and we can fire up the grill. I just filled the propane tank, too! 😁😁

5

u/InnerAd1628 1d ago

That's a plan right there brother.

I'll brings beers & some wetwipes for muddy knees & hands on the offspring.

6

u/Fair_Structure_120 1d ago

I think I'm going to go with moat direction personally

That's really the whole lesson that you need to start moving dirt.

81

u/PsyOpBunnyHop 1d ago

Cool. So we're all certified now? When do we get our own?

26

u/MikeyboyMC I drink paint 1d ago

3-5 business days :(

5

u/funnyguy99207 1d ago

I been waiting 30yrs for a digger. 3-5 business days don't confront me, long as my rent gets paid on Friday.

6

u/loughcash 1d ago

Depends on the brand- equipment manufacturer set up controls
Differently

2

u/corrieleatham 1d ago

The dreaded Hitachi control pattern

u/Freakjob_003 1d ago

I got my forklift license years ago, but it turns out those expire eventually. Now I'm in a new job and can't even use the powered pallet jack yet...

4

u/supazero 1d ago

No. Don't forget all Health and Safety.

9

u/lastbeer 1d ago

Some might even say the hole lesson.

116

u/Legitimate-Angle-408 1d ago

The most bro thing, the dude explained without any words. I am sure most of us want our hands on this.

11

u/danielrmorenop 1d ago

I'm scheming as we speak

44

u/DesiB12 1d ago

Got the training, See you at the site bro 😎

33

u/Screwdriving_Hammer 1d ago

I appreciate this video. But I also just want to say to all the men out there... "Get in the fuckin' thing and start fiddling with the controls, you'll figure it out."

This is how i became a heavy equipment operator.

You ever heard of Launchpad McQuack? From Duck Tales? Yeah... it's that easy. You just get in there and fucking own it.

8

u/Alex_Duos 1d ago

That was my basic training at Lowe's. This is how you make it go up down etc, now go move this refrigerator. Don't break it, newbie!

I was so terrified the first day but after that it was like cool, I'm on the Star Wars!

3

u/Hot_Ambition_6457 1d ago

Facts. You're allowed to press any buttons/switches/levers etc provided they are not red surrounded by yellow.

Just get in the thing and start doing it. I grew up in and out of firehouses and I wasn't 10 years old before I knew all the buttons in a fire engine and which ones would cost a lot of money to press

34

u/Excellent-Word-5148 1d ago

I appreciate how good of condition the operator keeps the cab. Windows included.

4

u/ihatemakinghandles 1d ago

Under appreciated comment for sure.

Did I just become certified?

10

u/WolfWriter_CO 1d ago

I’m sure you’ve been certifiable for some time now.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/sovereign_fury 1d ago

Hell yeah! We're all certified now!

14

u/wiler212 1d ago

you mean to tell me that i learned the basics of piloting and excavator in a minute and thirty-one seconds

https://giphy.com/gifs/fXJyMfUdqVCMPAnPJM

11

u/A_LittleBitHigh 1d ago

I mean, that's not that bad. I could get used to all that in a few hours. I feel good about this now

8

u/MBarnett13 1d ago

Dude. Hell yeah.

8

u/humakavulaaaa 1d ago

Am I certified now?

8

u/lastbeer 1d ago

Job site starts at 6:00AM sharp. Bring a lunch. Don’t be late.

4

u/humakavulaaaa 1d ago

Ice late? Extra whipped cream?

5

u/Gullible_Pen1734 1d ago

That’s cool

5

u/ALLCAPITAL 1d ago

Is this how we’ll teach the robots?

5

u/LefT-NYC 1d ago

Finally, somebody showed me! Now I'll never be caught out there like that scene in the Sopranos when they're trying to bury the body in frozen ground…

→ More replies (1)

4

u/altavistayahoo 1d ago

Oh yeah! Scavenger certification completed!

Now, how do we transform into Devastator?

5

u/Turpentine_Tree 1d ago edited 1d ago

And how to make left or right turn?
I think I know how but assuming is the mother of fuck ups.

4

u/Onamuna 1d ago

Para girar una palanca para alante y la otra al contrario: palanca 🕹️ izquierda hacia adelante y la derecha hacia atrás y gira a la derecha y para girar a la derecha lo contrario.Son máquina de cadenas como los tanques.

2

u/aldamith 1d ago

Pull right throttle backwords and push left forward, or something like that:D

4

u/tucker_sitties 1d ago

30,000 men just said "I could do that"

3

u/kotor-170 1d ago

Excavators are fun, was pretty intimidated at first but they’re fun once you just give it a shot.

2

u/DaanOnlineGaming 1d ago

They are surprisingly easy to use

2

u/rexmanaek971 1d ago

Do you have to get certified through a school like a cdl or is it trainable through a company?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/gen0xidus 1d ago

Can you invert the Y-axis controls? The right hand stick. I feel like I would get that nachher a lot. Kinda like the flying in video games.

2

u/Gold_Line_9441 1d ago

German detected

2

u/king_john651 1d ago

Not really. Most machines after a certain time period have a hydraulic selector that changes the operation orientation from standard like in this video and sae fucked in the head mode

2

u/Greywacky 1d ago

I suppose you could if you started swapping hoses round on the hydraulic manifold...

3

u/facelesshivemind 1d ago

May bro always find someone to buy him drinks in the bar.

3

u/KittensFirstAKM 1d ago

This feels pretty intuitive to me, but I super appreciate the quick tutorial.

3

u/msviktor 1d ago

Good.

3

u/Dizzy-Daze 1d ago

After watching this training video, when can I expect my excavator license?

3

u/Be_Ready_For_me 1d ago

I didn't know i needed to see this.....feels good.

3

u/Healthy-Confection66 1d ago

I REALLY wish they’d put a banner across the top of the vid that said “WAIT UNTIL THE END!”…bc finally that horn beep made it worth it!

3

u/kkania 1d ago

beep

3

u/Anuki_iwy 1d ago

Fancier playgrounds in my childhood had toy excavators in the sand box and the levers worked pretty much the same way.

3

u/Square_Somewhere_420 1d ago

My training is done, anyone hiring?

3

u/ChromeYoda 1d ago

Caterpillar controls. I always ran John Deere controls. It switches the “crowd” to the right.

3

u/TypicalEmployee4102 1d ago

Always wanted to run one of those

thank you!!!

2

u/MulletAndMustache 1d ago

It's the same setup as my mini excavator, except it doesn't buck when going up or down.

I’ll remember this video sometime shortly after the apocalypse. Or buying a farmhouse. Whichever happens first.

Thanks for the tutorial.🫡

2

u/TotalAbyssdeath 1d ago

now we all know how to run excavators.

2

u/Xanthelasmapalpebara 1d ago

Ok! Now that our training is done, gimme the keys!

u/afewnameslater 1d ago

That was a very important lesson I am happy O partook in.

2

u/andnza 1d ago

the best 90 sec of reddit. i can now move dirt, professionally.

2

u/smoovecriminal89 1d ago

Is this brand specific? Like is that standard for all brands?

Also, this is how James Bond learned how to drive one in Casino Royale. So in theory, we are all one step closer to being like James Bond.

2

u/EmuOverlord88 1d ago

I assume standard for all brands, I've used 2 brands of excavators and the controls seemed the same to me

2

u/ModernManuh_ 1d ago

forklift when

2

u/mike-smith069 1d ago

Are you wearing coast guard uniform pants

2

u/Leromer 1d ago

All the hours playing with my stick will finally pay

Why do i feel like game tutorial started

2

u/SarcasticJackass177 1d ago

Now I know how to steal one!

2

u/Marcgxn1 1d ago

Took a job works class to do this one fall. The dexterity of these things is ridiculous. I game, pc and Xbox, Microsoft has got nothing on a backhoe's hydros. Lol

2

u/Independent-Dealer21 1d ago

You sir deserve a nice lunch today

2

u/Jolly_Ad1631 1d ago

Is there a simulation game of this I can play because nobody will ever trust me with a real one.

2

u/Budget_Pause_1827 1d ago

i was riveted the whole time...fuck

2

u/radioclash75 1d ago

3

This will come in handy for GTA VI 👍

1

u/StoneTown 1d ago

Oh that's awesome! Can I have a turn? Mom said you need to share your toys.

1

u/Thralls_mints 1d ago

The honk was the best part, easily

1

u/JagXeolin 1d ago

thankyou, master.

1

u/Extension_Hand542 1d ago

Doing the lords work🙏

1

u/Jaded_Helicopter_376 1d ago

1

u/ReptilianRex6 1d ago

Doing us all a great service!

1

u/miracle216 1d ago

Ok I am ready. Training done. Where do I apply for the job

1

u/Forsaken_Care 1d ago

Now I will patiently wait for the video of someone getting in an excavator with a different control pattern expecting this pattern to work 😄

1

u/wisnshaftler 1d ago

Okay now I have 10Y working experience and going to apply for a Job

1

u/Disastrous-Rub-4087 1d ago

I want one ☝️

1

u/Ok-Limit-9726 1d ago

Honestly,

I could be a pilot if they just started like this!

1

u/Illustrious-Way-6458 1d ago

Now my training completed.

Where do I apply for license?

1

u/fuccyallallyall 1d ago

I feel like I’m qualified to operate an excavator now lol

1

u/Deep-Grape-4649 1d ago

Can we get a ‘land a plane’ video next?!

1

u/Nice_Competition9648 1d ago

I’ve been considering going for heavy equipment operator. Watching this is a step in the right direction for me

1

u/CleanSeaPancake 1d ago

I used to operate these and many others as a child. Seeing this tickled my brain and made me sad.

1

u/Sanquinity 1d ago

I have never and probably will never operate one of these. This is still really cool to learn about. :P

1

u/GraveWoodSpeaks 1d ago

In case of large monsters, watch this video

1

u/heyGuat 1d ago

Feels like controlling a dinosaur.

1

u/Zedex3 1d ago

Job done !! Time to go

1

u/Low_Background7485 1d ago

Now i am ready to theft excavator

1

u/DirectionSad4274 1d ago

This made me so happy for my eventual midlife crisis "get drunk and go hijack some construction equipment" time, but I'm slightly salty that he didn't scoop up a load of rocks before the video ended

1

u/Wo3dy 1d ago

Are the joysticks configurable in settings?

1

u/Bertbile 1d ago

It’s when you try n coordinate the controls all at once to dig an even track is the hard part.

1

u/Marsu2020 1d ago

Love this tuto! ❤️❤️❤️ Now, can someone post a tuto on how to drive a Rafale? Thanks

1

u/Chris_Crossfit 1d ago

Watched it on mute, and can honestly say that I am a pro at it already.

1

u/Dommiiie 1d ago

I think I'm ready for my first day

1

u/g0ofyG 1d ago

Top tier educational video of the year

1

u/KaleidoscopeStreet33 1d ago

This is the first time in my entire life that I heard one of these things had a horn. A cute one at that!

1

u/MiI0rd 1d ago

Oh he knows what he did, no Aussie construction site is now safe from drunken shenanigans

1

u/Glum-Handle-9840 1d ago

what about turn left/right

1

u/Prize_Toe_6612 1d ago

Congrats, now get into the one with one stick or where the sticks are reversed.

1

u/Ozzy_30 1d ago

God, that looks fun

1

u/SignificanceWild9686 1d ago

This guy watches Reddit videos on mute

1

u/Specialist-Wave-8423 1d ago

Thanks man 😊

1

u/Colonel_Angus_ 1d ago

Hope you missed the landmine directly in front of you

1

u/MelvsBDA 1d ago

All instructions should be done like this.

1

u/Shlano613 1d ago

My four year old son loved this so much. I'm gonna download this video for him. I feel like we both just got certified to drive an excavator

1

u/Alex_X-Y 1d ago

Why the hell do you need to teach someone driving an excavator? Nobody ever taught me but I just know... I mean as a man you just have it in your blood...

1

u/AwwwNuggetz 1d ago

Now that I’m certified I need to find me an excavator

1

u/Dem0lari 1d ago

Now I am certified to use that machine. Thank you.

1

u/Burgherking22 1d ago

This new found knowledge will help me if I need to save lives in an emergency or kill a zombie horde in an apocalypse. Thank you

1

u/leoalexlion 1d ago

That’s it I’m certified

1

u/EnvironmentalLet9682 1d ago

i am now a pro excavamator pilot!

1

u/Legitimate_Pain_9628 1d ago

Kulanmayı bilmeyen de ne biliyim

1

u/dotcom_dotau 1d ago

That was exactly how I was taught

1

u/SkyConsistent8863 1d ago

Hmmm. I could try that next week 😁

1

u/BusyBit6542 1d ago

Teach me how to turn one on without keys

1

u/NoAkuBirds_808 1d ago

I can now operate this equipment 100%

1

u/kornuolis 1d ago

Am i certified now?

1

u/RoyalPuzzleheaded259 1d ago

Who knew front end loaders had a horn?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Pear_18 1d ago

Those joysticks dosent look very ergonomic. The ones I been in had better ones.

1

u/EmuOverlord88 1d ago

Learning to operate an excavator was fun af

1

u/Sodacan259 1d ago

Yay. Now theres a point to hotwiring one.

1

u/rockturtle71 1d ago

I’m ready, put me in coach! 😁

1

u/Saphentis 1d ago

Quite educational

1

u/Hornedupone 1d ago

So I’m like qualified now right? Fuck yeah, off to the nearest job site!

1

u/CommunicationStrict 1d ago

I just had an orgasm. Should I celebrate or see a doctor?

1

u/Joeschmoe714 1d ago

Ok, I'm headed to Alaska to go work for Parker now!

1

u/Independent_Menu7796 1d ago

I would make such a good operator

1

u/roufas364 1d ago

I'm buying a house this winter and I can't wait to rent an excavator to tear out some shitty hedges in the front yard and dig up a useless shed foundation in the back. I don't know what I'm more excited for: when the realtor hands me the house keys or the mech shop hands me the excavator keys.

1

u/Ambitious_Willow_655 1d ago

I've tried this once. But my short memory brain doesn't allow me to master it

1

u/AdunfromAD 1d ago

Now I am invincible.

1

u/Guilty-Choice8223 1d ago

Finally, now I can start stealing excavators

1

u/kitkatas 1d ago

Hell yeah !

1

u/ghostdoggda89 1d ago

Welp going to apply for that job now lol..part time only but yeah

1

u/Shoddy_Fish31 1d ago

I am going to rent one this weekend and make a mess of my backyard. Wife doesn’t know that yet

1

u/syamas 1d ago

The horn was necessary

Are the basics the same for bulldozers?

I'm ready for zombie apocalypse

1

u/loaf_dog 1d ago

Hell yea

1

u/Repulsive_Pigeon_67 1d ago

You have my dream job man... you pilot excavator on a mine?

1

u/withomps44 1d ago

To me his hand signals on the right stick made no sense. I would fail at that job. Haha

1

u/b1sh0p 1d ago
