What’s the biggest scam in Gwinnett County that nobody talks about?

Just drove by and it looks like they’re in the process of tearing it down. Hopefully this means that they’re finally gonna build a new one. It’s a shame the dwarf house went away. That Saturday breakfast buffet was so good.

Does anyone have a go to liquidation store for appliances? Been looking for a French door fridge one around 1k, but have been striking out. The places I’ve gone to will knock $50 down the retail. Looking for a bigger deal if I’m going down this direction.

My mom is a retiree in Gwinnett. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, she’s needing to return to work, at least part time. She needs a role where she is sitting most of the time. She’s tried cashier roles, but the standing and walking around has been too much. Any ideas for possible receptionist or easy roles for someone that doesn’t require a lot of work on a computer?

Hi everyone! Last week I adopted this sweet little boy, Hazelnut, from the Bill Atkinson shelter in Lawrenceville. He’s a 10-week-old buff tabby with the most affectionate little personality and he loves to play! He’s completely litter box trained and he eats and sleeps well. He is also neutered and up to date with shots (I will include his adoption packet!)

I had to make the most heartbreaking decision to find him a new home, after losing my job over the weekend. I’m a full time student, and without my income, I won’t be able to afford taking care of both a kitten and myself. This is a transitional period of my life right now and I don’t want to extend my struggles to Hazelnut. I hope to find a wonderful person who could give him all of the comfort, support, and love he deserves.

My name is Altasia, and I’m a 4th grade teacher at a Title I elementary school in Lawrenceville. We’re running a quick Double Good popcorn fundraiser to help support our staff & students, and our shop closes September 7th.

Ok so I have a problem, I’m on first time offender felony probation for identity theft (I didn’t do it, but did not have the $ for a good lawyer I have 4 children and was scared so I took a deal for 5 years probation, reduced to 3 for good behavior and compliance) I had 40 hours of community service which I completed over a year ago and my probation officer is only now asking for my log and online it’s saying I haven’t done ANY of my hours besides the one for orientation. I did my hours in the city of Suwanee and he told me he’d report I finished back to my po but I’m guessing he never did. We are supposed to do at least 8 hours a month to stay in compliance so I’m honestly confused and don’t want to violate or go back to jail ! I have my log but will they confirm and would they still have that I completed in their files if it was over a year ago !?

I was in Gwinnett County taking some photos of the Gwinnett Place Mall back in January (it is a pretty strange mall), and I saw this dumpster full of voting supplies. I'm not sure what the standard procedure for using/reusing voting supplies is... but this seemed kind of wasteful. I wonder how much it all initially costed.

Basically, if there’s somewhere that makes you think, “You live here now — you HAVE to try this,” I want to know about it!

Little but about me:
I am Asian and pretty much homebody. I am an artist really into anime, manga, game, movies, art, and collectibles, so recommendations for manga/Japanese books, anime figures, art books, hobby or comic shops, games, and great movie theater spot would be amazing! ☺️

For activities, I love ice skating, so if there’s a good rink for casual skating, I’d love to hear about it.

I’m also trying to learn which annual Georgia events are actually worth putting on my calendar, especially anything related to anime/manga, art, food, film, markets(ex. farmers market), games, or seasonal festivals. Someone briefly mentioned to me about JapanFest and ATLAnime Fest (which I am looking forward to) but I’m sure there are a lot of details or other events I don’t know about yet.

Also, my parents, who live overseas, will eventually be visiting to see me one day, and I really want them to have the best time in Georgia when they come! 🥰

My mom especially loves healthy, fresh food, organic or farm-to-table places, pretty cafés, brunch, shopping, and cute walkable areas where you can park once and spend a few hours exploring.
(+she loves pita with hummus🤣+ me as well…)

My dad is more of a foodie/gourmet and really appreciates good food. He also loves beer, wine, authentic Italian food, and golfing, so great restaurants, wineries/breweries, or nice golf-related destinations would be perfect for him.

We’re pretty adventurous with food, so any good spots are absolutely welcome, but we’d also love to experience great local food and places that feel uniquely Georgia/Southern.

Tuesday's Board of Commissioners work session. Here's what's on it.

The animal shelter. The Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Renovation gets its second change order, adding $5.6 million. That increase by itself is larger than the entire contract Place Services signed in March 2025. The project also gets 373 more days added to the schedule. So: roughly double the money, roughly a year longer. The agenda doesn't state the original contract value, which I think it should, and I've asked for it along with what the first change order added. (2026-1137)

Sidewalks on Old Rockbridge and Williams Road. Just under $1.8 million to Ohmshiv Construction for pedestrian improvements between Bishop Circle and Singleton Road. About 84% of it comes from the 2017 SPLOST. (2026-1126)

Mulberry would take over permitting inside its own limits. A proposed agreement would let the City of Mulberry review, inspect, and permit Gwinnett County's construction projects within Mulberry city limits. No dollar figure. For one of the county's newest cities, that's a real shift in who has authority on the ground. (2026-1148)

A new tax incentive framework. The county would add a Community Redevelopment Tax Incentive Program to its code, creating criteria for offering tax breaks on qualifying redevelopment projects. No dollars attached yet, this just builds the mechanism. The actual deals come later, which is usually when nobody's watching. (2026-1149)

Two big projects closing out: the Little Suwanee Creek Pump Station finishes at $14 million, which is $456,000 under where it was headed (2026-1113). The Pond Road and Berkeley Hills water main replacement finishes at $3.5 million, $132,000 over (2026-1134).

Other spending: $885,000 for police load-bearing vests with ballistic panels and rifle-rated plates (2026-1130). $450,000 for fire hydrants and parts across three vendors, for a system with more than 48,000 hydrants (2026-1121). $347,278.50 for ballot printing and vote-by-mail processing (2026-1117). $276,000 for state and federal lobbying (2026-1118). Elections moving services went up another $105,354.96, now 25.9% over what was originally scoped (2026-1131).

Coming in rather than going out: a CASA grant of up to $235,429.93 with no county match (2026-0971), $45,000 in afterschool grant money for three sites (2026-1127), and a damage recovery contract expected to return $250,000 from third-party vehicle claims (2026-1116).

We live in Hamilton Mill area and this week I’ve noticed a change in the smell of tap water. I smell it when I turn on the shower and the sinks. It’s like a cleaning fluid scent. It dissipates while I’m in the shower, but it’s there.

Anyone else smell their water?

Is it something county wide, or do I need to call a plumber?
