Hello everyone, I am an Arab (username is random, it has nothing to do with my ethnicity) and I’m interested in finding someone (Native Speaker) to practice Haitian Creole with, in turn, I can help you practice your Spoken English.

Gender doesn’t matter, anyone will be welcomed as I only care about respect and I highly appreciate diversity, I prefer someone within my age range though (I am 28M)

I am also interested in forming a friendship( if we get along very well).

I use Telegram for my Language exchanges, I prefer my exchanges to be through voice messages as they’re helpful for improving speaking skills fast.

My interests are: Geography, Politics, Economics, general life/knowledge, Religion.

I am only interested in serious connections, not people who will message me for a few days and then ignore me and disappear for no reason, I highly appreciate respect and clear communication, if we don’t get along, you can politely and clearly state this to me and we can break the connection, I do respect that sometimes people may not get along due to cultural differences and opinions but respect must be maintained. Saying all of this since I had a lot of bad experiences with people who message me for a few days and then vanish with no apparent reason. Hopefully I’d find someone who takes this into consideration and we can connect and become friends.

1. Sak pase? / N ap boule!

Literal: What's happening? / We're burning!

Meaning: "What's up?" / "We're doing great / getting by!"

2. Men anpil, chay pa lou.

Literal: Many hands make the load light.

Meaning: Teamwork makes the dream work.

3. Pwoblèm pa gen klakson.

Literal: Trouble doesn't honk its horn.

Meaning: Misfortune comes unannounced / without warning.

4. Degaje pa peche.

Literal: Making do is not a sin.

Meaning: Resourcefulness / Finding a way to make things work with what you have.

5. Mwens pale, plis travay.

Literal: Less talk, more work.

Meaning: Actions speak louder than words.

I’m a beginner learner of Haitian Creole. I believe I’m around.. 8 weeks in or so? I’m not sure. But I truly love the language and I have a desire to master it and be able to speak it fluently.

I love the language. My native tongue is Spanish, and I speak some French, Portuguese, and Catalan, so I have been able to identify many cognates and correlations between these languages that are so cool. I want to learn more and continue improving both my pronunciation and communication skills. I was wondering if anyone in this forum would be willing to offer me some guidance and help throughout this endeavor.

I am eager to learn and to make mistakes in the process. I have been dedicating about 1 hour every day to studying it online, but nothing is better than speaking to someone who already speaks it, is learning, or is native.

Hello my name is Che, I’m an Haitian American woman born in the heart of NYC. I was never taught or talked to in creole at all, my mom was a single mother and was always busy working. On top of that I don’t believe she saw the importance in learning and preserving the culture or even thought about it or the impact it has on us. I want to be more connected to my roots, I’m a person who caresss way more about developing Haiti, knowing the language and writing so I can pass it down to my kids, I don’t want the culture to get lost. I just wanted to get some opinions on how Haitian feel about non Haitians learning kreyol. I’ve worked at a few places that had a decent amount of Haitians and honestly never really noticed how many there are in the town I live in along with Puerto Ricans. I’m ngl I am a big nerd about the Caribbean in general I make a lot of Spanish food and recently made diri kole ak pwa nwa and ts was good asl. I do know some basic kreyol like kisa ou vle, sak ap fèt, nou fini, sak gen, and some insults obviously😂and ofc the song I’ve heard plenty of times but don’t know the name of where he says sak pa kontann anbake. But i fr think yall have a beautiful language and culture and i wanted to know if was like how Jamaicans feel about Americans trying to speak patois

I'm Haitian, but I would like to brush up on my Creole. My parents speak Haitian Creole between themselves sometimes, but not with me, so I understand a bit but can't express myself fully.

Can someone practice with me a few minutes or hours per week? By visio, writing, or meeting in person if we are in the same area (I'm based in France, near Paris/Strasbourg)?

I really want to connect with my culture because there isn't that much of a Haitian community where I am, and it's difficult.

Would something like "ak/oswa" make sense for a native speaker?

Hi I'm having trouble understanding why this sentence has "yo" at the end at the end of the sentence instead of "a" or "an". Up until now I've only seen "the" as "a" or "an". Can anyone explain? Edit: Forgot to say: how do you know they're not using "to" as a possession word like "their"?

I stumbled upon this Bilingual Haitian Creole kids book a while back called A Mile in My Shoes and wanted to just share it to the community. It’s a cute story and follows a kid named Jorge immigration from Haiti to the US.

title however I would prefer one only in creole and not in creole and french if possible. Any other haitian books would be helpful.
