New to Hellblazer

Hi! I’ve pretty recently started getting into John Constantine Hellblazer. I understand just start at 1 which is what I’ve done. But I’m also a huge fan of physical graphic novels so I’ve jumped around a bit however it’s recently come to my attention that some of these writers are quite controversial in writing Constantine and I would just like to ask for any suggestions on who not to read and why or stories I might want to skip.
I am all for the dark themes in these books it’s what attracted me to Constantine in the first place.
I would just like a general guide on what I should avoid if possible!
Thank you so much!!

Generally the two that are lowest regarded are Azzarello and Milligan. IMO it’s worth at least trying to read everyone. Even Milligan has his defenders (although I personally can’t imagine why.) If it’s not clicking for you then don’t feel like you need to see the whole thing through.

definitely avoid azzarello & milligan run, it’s not worth to read in my opinion, also son of man storyline by garth ennis. avoid it.

for the why: it’s just felt off, John doesn’t felt like John himself and definitely some triggering things like rape and sa making me iffy on some of the storyline by azzarello n milligan

Yeah
Good Intentions by Azzarello is what made me make this post after consulting with an old Constantine fan.

I would read Books of Magic and Si Spurrier’s run.

Alan Moore and Rick Veitch’s Swamp-Thing if you haven’t read them

I currently reading through Alan Moore's swamp thing (its so fucking good), can I jump straight into Delano's hellblazer or do I need to read Rick Veitch's swamp thing first

I would read Hellblazer 1-3 and if you have the Veitch tpbs they start with issues 4 and 5, then ST 65. Delano, Veitch, and Gaiman were interweaving a story.

That interveawed story (including the Swamp thing issues) is collected in the right order in Hellblazer Delano omnibus volume 1
