I’m rewatching rookies v veterans and every time Trev is shown or talks I get so uncomfortable. Not because I think he’s a bad person or anything but because he is so painfully earnest. It’s like everyone else had some sort of media training and Trev is making it his life’s mission to be the most honest and open person in the world. He’s trying so hard and I feel like he’s just getting beat over and over again. I feel maternal towards him and I’m 27 years younger than him😭

I always enjoyed Hell's Kitchen's season previews. In the first season, there was a scene where the red team talked about Gordon and compared him to Simon Cowell, but it never showed up in any episodes. I wonder why that is?

So, I've looped around twice with my era hopping. The seasons I've watched in order are 1, 6, 9, 12, 16, 19, 22, 2, 5, 10, 14, 17, 21, and now 3. Since the last season I watched was the last of what's considered the classic era, I'm back to the golden age with either season 4 or 7. I'm gonna let the small HK reddit community decide this one for me.

So in a few seasons the chefs competing in cook for your life have been decided by team members ranking.
I’m curious what would happen if the team had some grudge against the best cook in their team and ranked them last. Would they have to compete or would Ramsey call out the BS and make his own suggestions.

Imagine an all-stars season with only 2nd & 3rd place contestants plus Alex (s21) and Meghan (s14) as sous chefs. Who do you think would win and who would tank like nobody's business?

This was not mentioned in the HK Wiki so I guess his reward was never filmed. The comment was under the HK Fans Facebook post from someone that asked the former contestants when they received their physical rewards like cookware or what they bought from their shopping spree reward.

The picture on the right is a recent picture of him from a earlier this month. Yes this is the same guy, this isn't some other guy that has the exact same name as him. He has an Instagram page and to my knowledge, he's still a chef but he tends to play a lot of golf on his Instagram page.

Team Swap: Since the Red Team had only 5 competitors compared to the Blue Team’s 7, Ramsay sent Jessica to the Red Team to even out the numbers. Jessica said in a confessional that she would have preferred to stay on the Blue Team, but she knew that the fact that Ramsay sent her specifically to join the Red Team showed that he trusted her. She would have to prove that Ramsay made the right choice. However, Melissa was jealous and believed that she, not Jessica, deserved to join the Red Team. 

Team Challenge: Ramsay presented the teams with 6 cloches at the pass. One by one, he lifted each cloche to reveal an entree on the Hell’s Kitchen menu: Beef Wellington, New York Strip, halibut, salmon, duck, and chicken breast. Each team had 40 minutes to work together and make each of these 6 staple dishes. Ramsay reminded everyone that since they made these dishes every night, he expected nothing less than perfection. 

However, at the 30-minute mark, Ramsay called everyone up to the pass and revealed that this was actually the Last Chef Standing Challenge. At regular intervals, each team must kick one chef out of the kitchen until one chef is left in each kitchen. He instructed each team to decide on the first person to leave the kitchen. Nicole immediately volunteered to leave before anyone could argue because she felt that she was weaker than her teammates. Her abrupt exit meant that everyone had to rally quickly. Meanwhile, in the Red Kitchen, Alex instructed Mieka to leave. At the 25-minute mark, each team had to kick out another chef, which turned out to be Cat from the Blue Kitchen and Amanda from the Red Kitchen; the latter was pressured by Alex, who admitted in a confessional that he had a plan in mind: he wanted to be the second-to-last person in the Red Kitchen so that he could push all the responsibilities on whoever is last and challenge them to carry the team on their shoulders. That way, they’d look bad while he survives. 

Then, at the 20-minute mark, Meese from the Blue Kitchen left. However, the remaining chefs on the Red Team argued over who would leave. Alex tried to pressure Ji to leave, but she refused because she did not trust Alex. Neither Jessica nor Ashley was willing to leave, either, but Ashley finally relented so that her team would stop arguing. However, Jessica and Ji both noticed that Alex did not start several garnishes. When they rushed to start those garnishes, Alex fired the duck and the chicken at the same time. Ji and Jessica stopped him, but they had to restart both proteins because they were partially cooked. 

At the 15-minute mark, Ji and Jessica tried to force Alex out of the kitchen, but he refused. With the two refusing to leave, the ejected Red chefs yelling at Alex, and Ramsay demanding that the Red Team send someone out, Alex had no choice but to step out. JR left the Blue Kitchen at the same time. Finally, with 10 minutes left, Jessica and Drew reluctantly left the kitchen. This left Melissa and Ji as the last chefs standing. Drew was worried because he knew that Melissa had an ego. At the 5-minute mark, Ramsay sent all of the chefs back into the kitchen, and they worked together to plate the dishes. 

When it came to judge the dishes, Ramsay asked if both teams were happy with their dishes. Neither team was satisfied; the Blue Team didn’t trust Melissa entirely, and the Red Team was worried that Alex effectively sabotaged them. However, thanks to Jessica and Ji working together, the Red Team scored a point on every dish except the chicken, which was dry. However, the Blue Team lost points on the Wellington and New York Strip because Melissa didn’t listen to her team’s claims that she needed more time on those two dishes. The Red Team won their third consecutive challenge with a score of 5-4. 

Challenge Result: Red Team win (5 challenges won by Red - 3 challenges won by Blue)

Reward/Punishment: Ramsay declared that since the Red Team had made it to the halfway point of the competition, they would get to fly in a helicopter with him and participate in a shopping spree in which everyone got $1,000 to spend on fancy clothes and accessories. He encouraged them to use this reward as a reset for the later half of the competition. Meanwhile, the Blue Team would celebrate the halfway point by giving Hell’s Kitchen a refresh. They had to deep-clean the kitchen and dorms, which included the bathrooms. 

The Red Team was surprised to see that Ramsay actually knew how to fly a helicopter. The Red Team bantered with Ramsay, but Mieka accidentally joked that Alex had sabotaged them so many times that they hoped that he wouldn’t sabotage the helicopter. While Ramsay jokingly chided Alex and reminded the team to work together, Alex realized that Mieka was onto him; she would be his next target because she was actively threatening his chances at winning. On the other hand, the Blue Team was disgusted at how sloppy everyone was. Meese, who happened to be on bathroom duty, gagged at the state of the bathroom. 

Individual Meetings: Shortly after the Red Team returned from their reward, the phone in the dorms rang. Ji picked up and found Ramsay on the other end. He greeted Ji and requested that she tell JR to go to Ramsay’s office. Upon entering, Ramsay told JR to take a seat. The former appreciated JR’s work ethic and energy, but reminded him to focus on his cooking first. JR smiled and thanked Ramsay for the feedback. He was also instructed to return to the dorms and retrieve Amanda. When Amanda entered Ramsay’s office, he praised her consistency and encouraged her to be more assertive. He then had her bring Cat into his office. With each new chef that entered his office, Ramsay offered feedback on their performance: he challenged Cat to speak up more, Ashley to not let her success go to her head, Drew to continue his upward trajectory and work on being more organized, Mieka to gain more confidence, Alex to focus on his own cooking and working with his team, Melissa to back up her confidence with her cooking skills, Ji to be a vocal leader now that she proved that she could be a great cook, Meese to be more consistent, Nicole to show her fightback, and Jessica to prove that he made the right choice by sending her to the Red Team. 

After Ramsay wrapped up his meeting with Jessica, he instructed her to tell everyone to meet him in the dining room. With all 12 chefs lined up, Ramsay reminded everyone not to get complacent and to keep pushing themselves through the final half of the competition. That final push began today; at each individual meeting, Ramsay asked each chef to name the three weakest chefs on each team; the three chefs with the most votes would be nominated to compete in Cook For Your Life. He also read out the results of the weakest chef vote. Two chefs from the Blue Team did not receive a single vote: Drew and Melissa. JR received three votes, but the remaining chefs each received five votes: Cat, Meese, and Nicole. On the other hand, the Red Team’s votes were more split. The only chef not to receive a single vote was Amanda. Jessica received one vote, and Ji somehow received two. This came as a shock to her, who thought that she was doing well. Ashley received four votes, and Alex and Mieka each received the maximum five. Ramsay instructed the six chefs with the most votes to stay in the kitchen, while the other six could return to the dorms. 

Cook For Your Life: Ramsay presented the chefs with six different types of fish: tuna, arctic char, salmon, halibut, black cod, and Dover sole. They each had 45 minutes to grab a fish and make a dish using that fish as the star protein. The person with the worst dish would be eliminated from the competition. Mieka picked halibut, Ashley picked Dover Sole, Cat picked tuna, Nicole selected arctic char, Meese went with Salmon, and Alex was left with black cod. Neither Ashley nor Alex agreed with their nominations, and Ashley in particular was fueled by anger. No one else felt confident. Meese initially overcooked her fish and had to restart, and Nicole undercooked her fish. When the latter put the arctic char back on the grill with a spatula, it fell apart. 

Elimination: Ramsay first chose Ashley’s dish. She cried when she brought up her dish because she did not believe that she should have been nominated. Her Dover Sole with a yuzu gastrique and capers was praised for being well-balanced and bright, even though Ramsay felt that more sauce would have elevated the dish. Next up was Mieka’s miso-glazed halibut over jasmine rice. While it was well-executed, Ramsay felt that it was too basic. He sent Ashley up to the dorms first. While her teammates on the Red Team applauded her, she ignored them. 

Next up was Alex’s black cod with dashi broth and zucchini noodles. Ramsay declared this dish to be ambitious and delicious, so he declared Alex safe. In a confessional, Alex believed that his team was now trying to stop him from winning because he was too much of a threat. As such, he’d only sabotage harder and sneakier. The next person to be judged was Meese, who was not confident in her crispy skin salmon with polenta. Ramsay cut open the salmon to reveal it to be 30 seconds undercooked, but it tasted nice. Feeling that this dish was not as good as Mieka’s, he sent Mieka up to the dorms. She reunited with the rest of “The Alliance” - Drew, JR, and Ji - and embraced them. Ji apologized for nominating her, but Mieka understood why she did that. 

With only two chefs left to judge, Ramsay called up Nicole with her arctic char over potato puree and Swiss chard. Ramsay immediately critiqued the broken fish, which turned out to be overcooked. Furthermore, her sauce was runny, and the chard was bitter because it was also overcooked. Ramsay declared Meese safe. The final chef left to be judged was Cat, who presented her sesame-crusted tuna with carrot two ways: pickled and pureed. Ramsay didn’t understand why she would puree the carrots, but the tuna was slightly overcooked. Ramsay admitted that this was a tough decision, but he wanted Cat… to return to the dorms because she was the final safe chef. This meant that Nicole would be eliminated. He praised her persistence, but he asked her to take her jacket off and leave Hell’s Kitchen. In her elimination confessional, Nicole accepted full responsibility for her loss and felt that maybe she couldn’t keep up with everyone else. Still, she enjoyed the experience because she got to show what she was really capable of. 

Ramsay Elimination Quote: “I always appreciated Nicole’s fight back, so I challenged her to show me that she would never give up when things got tough. That’s why I was so disappointed when, just like her arctic char, she fell apart when it mattered most.”

I have a few going (e.g. “The Alliance” between Drew/JR/Mieka/Ji, Alex being exposed and having a downfall, Melissa’s ego coming out, Amanda rising up to Ramsay’s challenge to be a leader, etc.), but I want to hear from you all.

It drives me crazy when a chef on the show says they're making food based on or inspired by a specific culture, and then when choosing ingredients it seems like they decide, "Well, this other culture from the same continent is close enough."

I'm watching S24 right now, the episode with the Church's Chicken CEO (seriously, wtf), and Cara Marie made a "Korean-inspired" chicken dish. First of all, she used sake. That is Japanese. The closest Korean equivalent probably would be cheongju. Second, she used miso. That is also Japanese. So what about this dish was even remotely Korean? Maybe she used seasoning reminiscent of kimchi on her cucumber or something, but if so, I'm not aware of it.

I understand that it's unlikely they had cheongju available in the kitchen, but seriously, why would you use two iconic Japanese ingredients and then claim your dish was Korean-inspired? It just makes her look ignorant, and this is not the only time this kind of thing has happened on Hell's Kitchen. Am I being too picky, or does this bother anyone else?

I dread the appearance of the 2 dudes from Animal every season , they are overly critical, mean spirited boars of people

So, I went back to re-watch S22 E12, what is probably my favorite episode of the show, and I realized how in the beginning argument between Jason and Jonathan, Jonathan brings up how Jason has went up for elimination five times. He then points out how Donya went home and how ridiculous that it. That got me wondering if there was any other times where a chef called out a ridiculous elimination (that wasn't either themselves or one of their close friends).

Just for a paper I'm writing; I assumed Christina was part Black or Latina and now I have been Googling I don't see that mentioned at all so I was wondering if I'm completely wrong and if so why did I think that in the first place? I would want to correct myself if I'm being accidentally ignorant.

Can anyone remember if she mentioned her background at all on the show or elsewhere? Also if Christina would not want anyone to discuss this specifically of course that would also be good to know.

It does not matter at all to me and (obviously) has no relevance to how good she is as a chef and likeable personality. It's just me checking if the point I refer to her in is actually inaccurate now, lol. Thank you.

She screwed her team multiple times in challenges because she refused to taste her food if it had meat/fish in it. Gordon drills it into chefs to taste, taste, taste but Josie refused to and honestly made it so much further in the competition than I expected.

Team Challenge: Chef Ramsay revealed that tonight’s service would be a private service for members of the Riverside Community College Culinary Academy. Among the attendees would be alumni, respected instructors, and high-achieving students. For the team challenge, each team had 45 minutes to prepare 3 appetizers (scallops, risotto, and flatbread) and 4 entrees (fish, pasta, chicken, and ribeye) for the service. At the end of the cooking period, Ramsay revealed that one of the culinary academy’s alumni would help him judge the dishes; that turned out to be Hell’s Kitchen 12 Black Jacket and 4th place season champion, Rochelle Bergman. Everyone was pleased to see Rochelle return. JR was particularly happy because he thought that her positivity would match his energy. On the other hand, Joseph expected to be annoyed by Rochelle. 

As the guest judge, Rochelle generally gave positive feedback and slight criticisms to dishes that she didn’t like. Cat beat Joseph on the scallops round, but Joseph argued when Rochelle felt that his scallops were overcooked. Ji beat Meese on the risotto, and Alex surprisingly beat Drew on the flatbread. Nicole beat Mieka on the fish round, JR won against Don on pasta, and Amanda’s chicken dish was better received than Melissa’s. Finally, Ashley beat her frenemy Jessica on the ribeye round, which gave the Red Team a 4-3 win. Rochelle liked Ashley’s ribeye the best out of the seven winning dishes. 

Challenge Result: Red Team win (4 challenges won by Red - 3 challenges won by Blue)

Reward/Punishment: The Red Team was rewarded with a flow rider experience at a water park followed by an elegant lunch. The Blue Team’s punishment consisted of decorating the dining room and baking a large cake for the private service. While most of the Red Team enjoyed the reward and got to laugh as each of them wiped out on the flow rider, the afternoon became very uncomfortable thanks to Joseph. He felt that Rochelle unfairly judged his dish and that the whole reward would distract him from winning. Despite Don’s attempts to cheer Joseph up, the latter maintained a sour mood. 

Meanwhile, the chefs on the Blue Team did not take their punishment in stride. With the exception of JR and Drew, they found the baking process to be too slow and tedious. By the time they put the batter in the oven, they had to restart because Meese forgot to add baking soda; Melissa, who put herself in charge of the process, failed to confirm that everyone followed the recipe. Furthermore, Jessica and Melissa held the other responsible for costing the Blue Team the challenge, and Jessica got frustrated due to Melissa’s arrogance. Eventually, sous chef Jon castigated everyone for their poor attitude and remarked that if they get this upset over baking a cake, then maybe this competition isn’t for them. 

Pre-Service: Ramsay reminded everyone that having a good service was of utmost importance at this stage. He reminded everyone to communicate and work together before he told Marino to open the doors to Hell’s Kitchen for Riverside Community College’s Culinary Academy. 

Red Team’s Service: Since the Red Team won the challenge, the head instructors of RCC’s Culinary Academy sat in their chef’s kitchen. Rochelle returned for service with her family and sat at a red table. Although Amanda sent out perfectly cooked risottos, Don struggled heavily on fish. He delayed the first order of scallops by failing to sear one side, then overcooking the refire. He then forgot to dry the scallops before putting them in the pan, which resulted in them being steamed. By the time he finally got an acceptable order of scallops to the pass, the ticket had been delayed for nearly 15 minutes. Even then, he continued slowing down the flow of the kitchen by overcooking scallops repeatedly. Finally, Joseph tried to take control of the station by pushing Don off and doing the scallops himself. The Red Team moved on to entrees, but Joseph refused to communicate with Ashley on meat or Mieka on garnish. Mieka and Ashley ended up sending their dishes to the pass without Joseph, who got upset that they were not talking to him. He ended up shutting down completely, resulting in Ramsay taking the entire team to the storeroom to get them to sort out their issues. When the Red Team returned, Joseph still struggled to communicate with his teammates. Ashley twice undercooked her challenge-winning ribeyes despite declaring that she needed more time. When she sent out an undercooked ribeye for the third time, Ramsay threw the entire Red Team out of the kitchen. He yelled that their lack of communication and organization was appalling, so he demanded two nominees for elimination. 

Blue Team’s Service: The Blue Team had a poor start to their service because Jessica burnt a flatbread on the first ticket. Ramsay angrily chewed her out for failing to cook a simple pizza correctly. On the other hand, Melissa had already walked to the pass with the risotto. In a confessional, Melissa said that first, Jessica underperformed during the challenge. Then, she blamed her for Meese’s mistakes during punishment. Now she was delaying her on the ticket. Melissa became so upset that she called out conflicting times over Jessica. Things did not improve on entrees because Nicole repeatedly overcooked JR’s pasta entree until Ramsay instructed him to teach her how to make his dish. When he was able to get the dish to the pass, Ramsay had him stay on the pasta station and relegated Nicole to helping Meese on meat. JR remarked in a confessional that it felt nice getting the spotlight, but he wished that he didn’t have to be at center stage while his team was collapsing around him. Cat, who was on garnish, sent out watery spinach for the salmon and crunchy broccolini for the ribeyes. Nicole simply stood around while Meese worked the meat station. When Cat sent clumpy mashed potatoes, Ramsay had had enough. He also kicked the Blue Team out and demanded two nominees for elimination. Before the Blue Team left the kitchen, JR stopped to wave at the competitors because he wanted to save face. Ramsay responded by pulling him aside and yelling at him for his inappropriate timing and flippant attitude. 

With a restaurant still full of hungry diners, Ramsay had sous chefs Ariel and Jon help him finish service. Everyone was fed, but not by any of the competitors. 

Joseph’s Disqualification: After service, Ramsay sent sous chef Ariel up to the dorms to castigate the chefs for their horrific performance. She told the competitors that they humiliated themselves and Ramsay on such an important service. She was severely disappointed in them. At this point, Joseph jumped out of his seat and walked past Ariel so that he could return to the kitchen and confront Ramsay. Gordon was confused and infuriated that Joseph had returned to the kitchen after he had been kicked out. Joseph demanded to know why Ramsay had humiliated him all season. To Joseph, he had done nothing but work his ass off and prove that he deserved to win this “stupid competition.” Ramsay walked up to Joseph and said that he refused to communicate with them and maintained a poor attitude throughout the competition. He had been given numerous services to improve, and he refused to do that. Joseph asked if Ramsay was blind, because clearly, he did not see Joseph’s work ethic throughout the competition. Ramsay refused to talk any further and demanded that Joseph return to the dorms. Joseph then stepped forward. To everyone’s shock, he balled up his fist and attempted to punch Ramsay in the face. 

However, Ramsay caught his fist before Joseph could strike him. Ramsay fell silent before declaring that this stunt proved exactly why Joseph wasn’t going to win Hell’s Kitchen. He then told Joseph that he was disqualified. Joseph attempted to instigate Ramsay even more, but Ramsay simply told him to “get the f**k out of Hell’s Kitchen.” Joseph tore off his jacket, threw it at Ramsay, and walked off, but not before cursing him out and flipping the bird. Joseph attempted to return to the dorms, but security escorted him out the front door. In his confessional, Joseph declared that this entire competition was a complete “f**king joke” and an insult to his work. He had never seen as big a wimp as Ramsay before. He ended by saying that if he ever came across Ramsay again, he would knock him to the floor and punch his lights out. 

Elimination Ceremony: Both teams entered the dining room to face a furious Ramsay. He started by acknowledging the elephant in the room: Joseph is missing. Ramsay explained that Joseph is gone because he tried to punch him in the face. Even though Joseph took himself out of the competition, Ramsay was not done yet. He was so humiliated at the complete dysfunction coming from both teams that at least one more person is going home. He asked Amanda for the Red Team’s nominees, which turned out to be Don for ruining the scallops, and Ashley for unexpectedly struggling on meat and getting the team kicked out. Ramsay then asked Drew for the Blue Team’s nominees, which were Cat for her inability to cook garnishes and Nicole for being lost throughout the night. Ramsay called all four forward and had them plead their cases. He ultimately eliminated Don for his bad downward spiral. In Don’s elimination confessional, he admitted that he didn’t think that he should go home because he could have recovered had he been given another chance. However, what Ramsay says goes, and it’d be no good arguing with him. He still enjoyed his time throughout the competition, and he ended by wishing Jessica, his friend, good luck because he wanted her to win the season. 

Ramsay declared that he never wanted to see another service like that ever again; otherwise, he would eliminate more chefs. He then dismissed everyone to the dorms. 

Ramsay Elimination Quote: “Don burned every scallop he ever touched, while Joseph burned every bridge he ever had. Neither of them could take the heat, so they got burned by the competition.”

I did laugh at this line from Jen, that was quite an episode when she was kicked out. She was a trip....

I have to say the S24 Black Jacket brigade. Like despite the Final 5 having a good Black Jacket service, Cyndi and Anaiya were the only ones who made a mistake or 2 that service so this should’ve been easy picks.
