Is UniFi Smart Queue Management reliable?

Many people are using UniFi gear for home networking, I'm planning to do so for my home as well but I found UniFi said that their SQM are recommended BELOW 300Mbps connection, I have a 500Mbps connection, can someone with UniFi gear and SQM enabled tell me is this true?

Yes. Above 300, you generally don’t need it. More importantly, some routers can’t handle speed above that when its enabled as it loses hardware acceleration.

“Bufferbloat does still matter above 300 Mbps, but active queue management (like Smart Queue Management or SQM) becomes unnecessary or counterproductive at these higher speeds because modern CPU hardware can process packets faster than the link can saturate, and raw bandwidth outpaces typical household congestion. “

Thanks for letting me know that, I always think it's because lack of SQM/QoS feature on my current gear

Above 300, bufferbloat becomes less of an issue, unless you have a really crappy ISP.

Yes you don't need it on connections above 300mbps.

What you don't mention is the problem that you hope will be fixed by enabling SQM.

Shouldn't be necessary, but nothing stopping you from trying it, but sounds like another issue such as a ISP problem. Would your ISP be using CGNAT by any chance.

I've test that before, they didn't using CGNAT

That doesn't mean they don't now, so worth checking again. Who is your ISP. Does whatsmyip.org give a different IP address to the one on your WAN connection.

It also named UniFi but not Ubiquiti its just UniFi

What Unifi hardware are you using.

This is a question that should be on the Unifi sub.

And who is your ISP and what Unifi hardware have they provided. Simple questions you have not answered. Don't know any that provide Unifi kit as standard.

Ubiquiti is the company, unifi is the product brand (ubiquiti has several other brand products for commercial use)

You can try out UniFi SQM by inputting the Expected ISP Download & Upload speeds from the Internet settings in the Network Controller, to the Smart Queues Downrate & Uprate fields. I’ve had this enabled in my UCG-Max for some time now.
