High School Math [9th Grade Geometry] Need help figuring out question 9

I’ve plugged the variable answer back into both equations and still not sure how the answer key got 61°. Am I missing something?

Ah thanks for catching that! I sent the wrong scratch sheet. But even correcting it as 27, the decimal still comes out to 1.74 🫩

The reason it's not working is because what u/watermelonlollies said in another comment. It's still always a good idea to double-check the arithmetic.

EBC-EBH= HBC. You set them equal to each other but this doesn’t make sense. I’m not sure how they got a numerical answer from that though

Yessss I have literally been trying to figure this out for the past few days and I honestly think they made an error in the workbook 😭😭😭

It’s been a while since I’ve done this type of geometry but based on my recollection you would need at least one angle provided to you to solve this. Like if we knew what ABE was we could solve it

m<EBC - m<EBH = m<HBC

(31a - 2) - (4a + 45) = m<HBC

27a - 47 = m<HBC

And that's the best you can get, at least from what I see here.

For additional context, the ONLY way I came up with 61 is when I multiply the 1.74 by 31a and 4a and then add those sums together and left off the -2 and 45 that the original problems came with and like that doesn’t make any sense why you would omit those numbers 😭
