I am Dr. Ratio, a scholar and teacher of the mediocres. If one day your brain shows symptoms of dullness, then please give the doctor a call.

Hi Trailblazers!

🚂 Welcome to the Daily Questions Megathread! Feel free to ask any general questions about Honkai: Star Rail that don't necessarily require their own dedicated posts.

Any questions that can be answered rather quickly (i.e. anything that can be adequately addressed without any discussion or can be given definitive answers) can be asked in the thread below.

>>> Example: Can my phone run this game?

If your question has discussion potential, please create a separate post, and include the “discussion” flair.

>>> Example: What do you think of March 7th’s combat efficiency? Here's my opinion…

Before making new discussion posts, please be sure to consider if your question could be better suited to this thread!

When both asking questions and sharing answers, be concise and detailed so other players can understand. Please maintain a stellar and respectful attitude toward others, and don't forget to share your appreciation to fellow trailblazers for helping you out!

Discussion This Apocalyptic Shadow reminding us of how PEAK Feixiao would be if she was a Remembrance character.

No hate post because I like current playable Feixiao

But the fact that THIS could be a more lore-accurate playable kit just makes me wish she was released later as a remembrance character.

Discussion An analysis of HSR's events every version.

A few notes:

  • This entire graphic was made by me, manually going through the wiki and counting every version's notable events that I could find. If I missed something or put it in the wrong category, please let me know and I can try to post an updated version in the comments.
  • HSR counts everything from Aetherium Wars to the Relic Recon as events. As such, I had to decide what does and doesn't count for the sake of this discussion. All of the events on this graph (aside from the "check in" ones which I will explain shortly) are ONES WITH ACTUAL GAMEPLAY, whether that be puzzles or minigames or normal combat.
  • "Check in" events are a term I use for small time-gated events that only require a minute or two of your time each day, such as 1.1's "Lab Assistants In Position" event (turning in basic materials each day) or 2.2's "All About Boothill" event (extra assignments each day). Most people, including myself, would not count these as full events, but they are represented on the graph because I think their higher frequency early on in the game's lifespan is notable.
  • "Permanent mode expansion" is also somewhat arbitrary. Here are my criteria for that:
    • WHAT COUNTS: Major additions or updates, such as Simulated Universe in 1.0, expansions like Swarm Disaster, each Divergent Universe overhaul, and Currency Wars's release.
    • WHAT DOESN'T COUNT: Endgame modes like Pure Fiction and Arbitration Anomaly being added to the game, and minor updates to modes like DU or CW (such as adding new planes or characters).
  • I count "Permanent" events as major mode expansions (even when they technically aren't permanent like past DU overhauls) or any event playable through the Conventional Memoir menu.
  • X.0 updates such as 3.0 and 4.0 are perhaps slightly underrepresented by these metrics, as they often have a lot of extra content in the forms of map exploration, new puzzle mechanics (like the Hand of Zagreus or Planarcadia's platforming zones), and checklist events for completing objectives and beating enemies, which I do not count according to my above criteria.

I hope some of you find this interesting. While it doesn't quite show off a drastic decline in content as I was expecting, I think there are a few interesting trends, such as the amount of reran events in 3.X or the lack of combat events in 4.X. There's only ONE permanent combat event between the two Fate events in 3.4 and 4.4! Seems like they definitely shifted more towards minigames as early as mid-2.X.

Discussion Corrosion is legitimately the worst mechanic I’ve ever seen in a video game of this scale

1.8k Upvotes

What were the devs thinking implementing this? I understand the idea of wanting to have Voracity spreading be a world mechanic so it actually affects the game, but everything past the basic ideas phase is implemented horribly.

First off, this mechanic straight up spoils the game to everyone who doesn’t log on the day the patch comes out and immediately play the new story. Why didn’t they make it so this only affects players who start the new patch? Or make it so the description is censored for players who haven’t reached that point in the story, like ZZZ does with some of its bosses?

Second off, this mechanic absolutely should not affect endgame. It’s genuinely absurd to me that they would put this mechanic in an endgame mode, which is the primary form of gameplay in this game. Not only that, but I’m pretty sure the boss that’s affected by it is totally random, so some players will just get screwed over and not be able to clear content because the game happened to give the boss they had trouble with the corrosion.

And finally, it’s just a terrible mechanic. It would be one thing if the mechanic affected gameplay in a fun or unique way, but no, all it does is make enemies more annoying to kill. This is a problem with most of the new mechanics this game adds, where it’s less of a “play this fun new mechanic” and more of a “this new mechanic sucks unless you pull the character who can deal with it”, but with the way corrosion is forced on everyone it’s even worse this time.

In conclusion, I don’t understand how this mechanic ever made it out of the concept phase in its current form, much less shipped out to the live game. Genuinely one of the worst mechanics I’ve seen in a video game and Hoyo should give us all at least 1600 jades as an apology for making us deal with this bullshit and I’m not joking.

Meme / Fluff Would the game be peak if Ashveil and Kuchiba kissed?

Personally I think yeah. If these two kissed already it would fix all the problems this game has. Including the power creep, lack of contents, endgame shill etc.

Discussion This isn’t a hate post but a genuine question: how do you increase “difficulty” in a turn based game without hp inflation/shilling?

I’ve honestly been a “defender” of hsr over these last few days cause it’s one of my favorite games, but looking into the everything that changed and how it affects accounts with little vertical investment I can see how ridiculous it’s getting I apologize…

Everyone knows how uncreative hp inflation and shilling is and by no means am I disagreeing with that, but how do you even increase difficulty in a turn based combat game in the first place with how set in stone the encounters are?

In games like EX33 and Persona I guess there’s outside mechanics and complexity that can be tweaked to make it more difficult, but with the core concept of hsr makes it difficult to add anything like that.

In no way am I defending HP inflation, inflation over time is normal but the rate it’s increased these last few patches are a little out of hand (looking at you Sparxie), but how else can Hoyo actually make it more engaging?

If the image fails *again* it's a screenshot of Auto Heartthrob Bot in Astropolis mentioning that Void Archives sold the blueprints to Shush for some cash to get by, hence why there are robots who look like Shush on Astropolis.

Discussion It's crazy to me that HSR doesn’t have a train simulator like this, despite train being such a huge part of its whole main theme and I really love train! I wish they implemented this to HSR in the future

Post image
175 Upvotes

GI introduced train and immediately made a train game. It has been so many years for HSR and instead what we got is car racing lol. They could’ve made an event or feature where we control the AE train. It would’ve been such a fun minigame or even better maybe something part of the story. Now that I think about it, imagine when we're escaping Planarcadia, there's something occurred and TB needs to take control of the train, which where we get the train simulator feature applied and later introduce it further as an event mini game. And no, their train being space travel doesn't prevent this concept to exist, instead it makes the concept even more cooler. I hope they implemented this into HSR.
