Yes, in some of the clips he is extra fat, but I promise he lost significant amount of weight and we don't need girdle extensions anymore! (we used to need 2 when he came to us) Still has lots to go and we will get there :)

I went to ride someone’s horse tonight while they are on vacation, and a piece of frog was missing from this hoof. One of her back frogs had a small piece missing as well. She was not uncomfortable when I pressed on the area and I didn’t notice any blood, pus, or strong odour. She was sound walk trot. Im wondering if I need to treat this tonight or have a vet out, or if her owner can look at it tomorrow when she’s back and decide what to do. Thank you!

Photo one/two (two months ago) was when she was with me, daily cleaning and brushing. Vs, photo three (now) at her new barn after being stuck in a muddy pasture for a month 😔 (not shaved btw I dont know WHAT happened but I miss her waves every day) 💔 hoping they will grow back but right now she's got some kind of bacterial thing going on under there..

Since I got Elvis(nearly three years ago), I haven't ridden consistently. Maybe for 2 months I'll ride every week but I have just come to a stand still in my riding. The other week I was riding a horse at the barn I board Elvis at and did some sitting trot and found that difficult which was really an eye opener 😭 I'm free to ride that horse whenever I please so I'm going to hopefully bring myself to ride twice a week minimum. Elvis will be started under saddle in the next year(light work, but still) and I really need to get things together. I did a bareback ride on that horse today and really just focused on my seat. Last 2 pics are of him, he's a sweetheart.

Hi! I’m a momma to a 16 month old human and 17 yr old horse, my horse is unfortunately not on my property so I have to board her. With that being said there is no barn, or any covered area for me to keep my baby while I’m with my horse, there is a feeding pen where there is secure area no horses could get into, just no shade. My baby loves my horse so I love to have her out with me, it’s just difficult. Is there any product recommendations to keep a toddler safe and confined in with shade, or any other suggestions so I can take her out with me and keep her safe at the same time?

🌟Moonshine 🌟 he was rescued from terrible living conditions. He was tired to a tree for years. Neglected vet treatment and farrier work as well as no friends to be around. He is the sweetest boy and will do anything for love or scratches! He adores my nephew and is a quick learner. Right now I'm working on picking up his feet to get him ready for his first trim.

Aka bowing 737, he is a power house. He was an ex roping horse turned into a trail horse! He is semi retired on my grandpa's 200 acre ranch and gets ridden once a week. He is very Aloof when it comes to love, but he enjoys booty scratches. When he first came to me he would do nothing but rear and try to bite me undersaddle. With some training and vet help, he has almost stopped completely! He has the odd moment every now and again where he blows up, but they are few and far between

Pepsi is a trail horse who is also semi retired. She gets ridden about once a week as well. She stays at my grandpa's 200 acre ranch as well! She is a sweet heart under saddle and has quite a few buttons. She spins undersaddle and tracks a cow like a dream. Now a days we mostly just plot along and just chill with each other.

Roper was my first horse! I had him for four years before he passed around two months ago. He was the best horse any person could ask for. He came to me as a retired roping horse that I just trail road on. He was the most forgiving horse ever. If I ever came off balance he'd slow down and wait for me. I rode him mostly bareback around the property! He gave me my confidence back after I broke my back and pelvis. He was the best boy ever!

Martini is my only registered horse. She is a registered arab! She was given to me as a present from my best friend. She had a rough start as she was severely neglected by her first owner. She was starved to the point of almost dying. During that time she kept getting pregnant and lost three foals. When my friend got her she didn't know she was pregnant low and behold she foaled and adorable chestnut filly that my friend still has! Now a days I'm getting her back into riding and being my next trail partner! Hopeing we can potentially do some playdays.

Hey all! I have a 17 month old yearling who is super duper buddy sour to my other 2 horses. He's getting ready to do his first show and I discovered that he becomes a nightmare when he wants to return to the other horses and can't. It's not barn sourness, because he doesn't care if it's on the fence or on the path back home. He just wants to be with the others.

When I lead my mare down the road or ride her away, he gallops around whinnying and works himself into a sweat. Same for if she has to go to the vet. I walked him a few times to my parents' house next door to introduce him to concrete and work on general desensitizing and he's fine until we start the walk home and I insist he not rush.

I know the tantrum part can be dealt with by round pen work, but will sleeping over at my parents' house for a couple nights help him learn to be okay away from her? My dad and I were thinking maybe we just start out with him in their paddock for a few hours, then a day, then he can stay a night, then before the show, he can stay a few nights over there and get used to being without her. He will be able to see the other horses from afar, but he will be on his own during this time.

Is this something that will help prepare him for the show? Thanks in advance.

Currently loaning full loaning a 8 year old horse who I absolutely adore. Everything I'm looking for however he has navicular.
Current owner has offered me to buy him which I would love to do however she wants 10k for him. Is this an insane amount for a horse who is perfect however has navicular?
I've been told that the vet said to crack on and he's sound/ fine and no treatment needed but I'm not sure. I don't know much about navicular.
Any advice would be appreciated! What's the max I should be paying for a horse with navicular?

Update: I am only a happy hacker/light schooling and don't compete which is all I want to do with him. This is what previous owner has told me regarding his navicular when I asked:
I can try and find the scans but it was just inflammation. The vet said to just crack on.
What happened was my yard owner put him out in the field with no grass and he tore his tendon which caused the inflammation and the navicular but he’s fully been signed off as the tendon has fully healed so the navicular shouldn’t cause him any issues as it was the tendon that caused it. The vets have said there is no reason why he can’t do everything he was doing before hand as he’s sound and happy and fully healed. My old instructors horse got diagnosed with navicular and it carried on eventing for 10 years after being diagnosed. There’s no pressure but yeah they are all happy with him and he’s all signed off. That’s ok, nothing got treated, he just had rest. Because it was inflammation it just needed rest and it went down and he was fine and yeah! As soon as the tendon healed he was absolutely fine and hacking out with me and schooling etc. So basically if my yard owner never put him out by himself he would’ve never got it.

We’re considering an earth-sheltered/cave-style barn for our 3 horses in California (zone 9b–10a).
It would be professionally engineered with a significant budget for ventilation, drainage, waterproofing, mold prevention, etc.
We’d have a grassy corral directly in front, plus a side exit to a fenced natural hillside with native plants, so the horses could wander outside and come back into the barn for shelter.
Has anyone seen something similar? What would your biggest horse-safety/welfare concerns be - or could this actually be a great setup if done properly?

Hey everyone! I have a mini pony mare going on 33 and she gets soaked grain for forage during the day. She's quite gassy and has some tummy aches from how fast she eats, but if we give her less, then she won't have enough for a few hours inside her stall. Does anybody have a "slow feeder" I could use that she wouldn't eat or ingest a part of?? I have had a hard time looking. Thank you!

I don’t ride my gelding as much as I used to. Admittedly he’s a very difficult ride and my mare is like riding a magical unicorn compared to him. But I’m also worried about his age and his joints. For 26 physically he’s in incredible shape, but I’m worried his arthritis is getting to him. He has no issue being a pasture puff. He does not like lunging or roundpen work but does seem to really enjoy having a job under saddle. Well he did until somewhat recently, he’s started getting a little worse behaved and wanting to do less. I’m guessing it’s his hocks and stifles. But I’m not sure if I should just let him live or take him in for X-rays and injections. He’s mostly going to sit over winter as we have no arena so I’d probably wait until spring to have those done since he’s comfortable just hanging around the pasture. He’s also seeming to slow down, he used to be a run run run gotta move kind of horse and that’s part of what made him difficult. Hes starting to chill but it worries me slightly. I feel guilty for not riding him but I’d also feel guilty if he’s not feeling his best. Last time I took him to a show he was enthusiastic and did amazing but outside of shows he’s been more sluggish, part of it may be he’s always been barn sour. I’m considering just taking him to shows and letting him just go his own pace (which for better or for worse is full speed ahead even without being asked lol), so he has something to do, and only doing leisure riding outside of that, no drilling for better times etc. but then again I’m also worried about arthritis. I’m also wondering if he needs a float and his teeth are just bothering him and I’m over worried about his joints, he’s going to be seen soon and I’ll have the vet check him. Even if he can’t do much he won’t be sold, he deserves his retirement safe and happy, he’s worked hard most of his life. He will never be a candidate for a kids horse, or even a beginner or intermediate horse, so toting kids around isn’t in his future either. If anyone has any tips for making the hard choices of retirement pleaaase drop that.

So at our barn we have what the barn owne calls a small arena and I (privately) call a glorified sand pit.

It's about 9x16m (30×52 ft) in size and tbh overgrown with plans and tarp sticking out of it. I only ever use it for walk or groundwork, on very rare occasions a little bit of trot.

But idk, I am considering maybe I'm just overthinking it a little. I read a round pen should be at least 15 meter to ensure the tendons aren't strained too much in tight circles - but with 1,40m (13,7hands) my mare also isn't the tallest.
