Starting my first long trip in September and I'll be in hostel dorms for most of the first month — Dubai, Cairo, Athens, Santorini. I run my own operation remotely, so the laptop isn't just a device, it's my entire income. If it goes, I don't just lose hardware, I lose the ability to earn.
I know the basics: bring my own padlock, use the locker, never leave it on the bed. What I want is what people actually do day to day:
- Do you carry it with you when you go out, or do you trust the locker?
- Do hostel lockers realistically fit a laptop, or is that completely hostel-dependent?
- Has anyone actually had one stolen? What happened and what would you do differently?
- Is there a point where you stop booking dorms and just pay for private rooms because the risk isn't worth it?

Do they ever respond? Needed to shorten my stay and no response. Cancel and rebook was the automated message but the room I have isn’t available those dates.

Hi 23m, life has recently turned itself upside down on me and I think it’s abt time to go do something new, this time solo. I love the outdoors and I don’t drink so bars are mostly off the table(although I smoke plenty of weed lol). I’m looking to spend about 10 days in Colorado flying in 8-7 flying out 8-18 and it looks like my price range puts me in hostels, I’ve never done travel like this before only camping or private hotels and I’m wondering what the reality of planning my hikes or activities with random groups(hopefully around my age) would be like?,would be greatly appreciated as this is all completely on a whim thanks!!!!

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to understand how hostels and PGs in India manage day‑to‑day operations.
1. Does your hostel/PG use any app or system to:
• Let people pre‑book meals so the kitchen/mess knows how many to cook (and can reduce wastage + random ordering), and
• Book common resources like washing machines, dryers, ironing stations, study rooms, or sports equipment with time slots?
2. If yes:
• What tool/app do you use?
• What works well and what’s painful about it?
3. If no:
• How do you currently manage this?
(WhatsApp groups, paper registers, Google Sheets, “first‑come‑first‑served”, notices, etc.)
I’m building a simple app in public that aims to:
• Let students/residents book meals in advance so the mess can plan quantity
• Allow booking of washing machines and other shared amenities with clear time allotments
• Give wardens/owners basic analytics on usage, peak times, and no‑shows
• Reduce chaos, queues, and food wastage
If your hostel/PG has a specific operational problem that existing tools don’t solve (e.g., floor‑wise rules, complex meal plans, deposits, or unique booking rules), I’m open to designing custom workflows and solutions on top of this.
Would love to hear from you:
• City + type (hostel, PG, college hostel, coaching hostel, etc.)
• Current system you use
• One pain point you’d love to see fixed
Comment below or DM if you’re open to a quick chat. I’ll share early mockups/prototypes and iterate based on real feedback.

Hello this is just to inform people to not stay here at this chain. They have terrible customer service. One they never respond to emails. They don’t respond to Instagram and hasn’t been updated in years. There number goes to the this number is not in use. Also if you try to visit in person the hostel is closed although it says open online. BEWARE! They are on Agoda and I lost 200 dollars!!! 💵

My goal next year for travels is to step out of my comfort zone. And trying to be a little more social is one of those things. I figured staying at a hostel would be a fun and scary start haha. I'll be 50 in a few days but often times dont feel it. But I know trying to hang out with early 20s folk can be a bit awkward but Im not against it. I travel to Mexico often with my start and end being Cdmx. Are there hostels that are older people friendly in Cdmx and other parts of the country? My next couple trips will have stays in Cdmx, Aguascalientes, San Cristobal de las Casas and probably Mazatlan.

Hi everyone I’ll be doing a solo trip to Barcelona in July and I want to stay at a hostel so I’m not completely by myself. I’m looking for more of a fun, social party spot to stay. I’ll be there for a few nights and really want to have a good time. I want to meet new people and if I have the chance to, even travel with them and see the city. I’ve seen Onefam Ramblas and Onefam Paralelo and even Kabul. I’m not sure which to pick. Can anyone help me out by suggesting me anything or giving advice. I would really appreciate it!

Hi all
I’m doing a solo trip starting September 24th to Spain ,Portugal and maybe Morocco for about 3 months in total
Just wondering what is Morocco like in late November /early December in the hostel scene
I’ll probably visit main cities but wondering will it still be quite social as I wanna meet people too
Please let me know if you have been during that time
Also what will the weather be like still a beach vibe or will the beaches be dead

Hiiii, everyone!
First of all, thanks for helping me in the last 2 posts. I really loved to see your suggestions and I even took some. So, here is my experience:)
I literally got the bestttt deal while booking the hostel. The people were really good and obviously, I had an amazing time. I have no idea why I was so scared to travel alone...okay, I do, but this trip was really good, even though it was just for 2 days. Maybe, I should have visited Goa in June/July but anyway, it was soo good, I'm planning to take another trip in June. Not to Goa of course...but more on that later.
I just want to say this to every female solo traveler - You should definitely try it once.
I'm adding the hostel details and the platform I finally picked in the comments:)
