My son (17) and his friend (17) want to stay at an A&O hostel in the UK, and they are able to do so unaccompanied according to A&O’s policy. However, when they try and book it says they can only book if an adult is with them? I was just wondering if anyone was in a similar position and what they did. Thanks!!

hi everyone! i'm going to lisbon this November for 5 days, 4 nights and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hostels?

i'm travelling solo and would like to meet other people for nights out and to hang with in the evening.

i know people really love good-morning solo hostel but it's £60 per night which is a little (a lot) out of my price range! same with yes! hostel.

i was looking at sant jordi, wot (there's so many different ones idk which is the one to go to), and sunset destination!

I’m exploring the “Invest & Partner” / asset-lease investment model currently being offered by goSTOPS, and I’m looking for actual experiences from people who have invested, rather than the projected returns shared by the companies.

A couple of years ago, I had considered investing in The Hosteller’s similar scheme, but eventually decided not to proceed. At that time, one of my major concerns was the company’s financial position — particularly the losses and debt on the balance sheet. I don’t remember all the details now, but that was the primary reason I stayed away.

Now I’m seeing a very similar opportunity with goSTOPS, so I’m trying to understand what actually happened with people who invested in The Hosteller’s scheme back then.

If you invested in The Hosteller’s scheme 2–3 years ago, I’d really appreciate hearing:

How much did you invest / approximately what was the investment size?

Which property/city was it?

Are you still invested or has the investment completed?

Did you receive the promised/expected payouts on time?

Were there any delays, changes or issues?

If you exited/completed the investment, how much did you actually make vs. what was initially projected?

How was the principal/asset buyback handled?

Most importantly — would you invest in the same scheme again?

Also interested in anyone who has invested in goSTOPS’ current Invest & Partner scheme, especially if you have already received payouts for some time.

I'm not looking for promotional comments or theoretical opinions. Real numbers, actual payout experience, delays, defaults, exits, or problems — good or bad — would be very helpful.

I’m considering investing myself, so trying to do proper due diligence before making a decision.

Personally my ideal hostel has a good balance of social activities and quality in terms of the room conditions and its amenities. I ended up booking my first two nights at One Fam Paralelo after doing some research. It seems to have the most positive reviews for the social aspect (other than Kabul which I didn’t really like the location and the quality of the rooms itself).

When I went to Madrid, I stayed at the Hat which had meetups with the people staying at Cats and I had a very positive experience. Though ngl, I will say it’s mostly because both hostels had a lot of latinos that were also solo traveling and I naturally clicked with them as I’m also latino.

However, I came across a recent post here and some of the comments are saying that one fam in BCN tends to be cliquey so I’m a bit worried now😭 I’m hoping I made the right choice cause it’s my first time in barca and I really wanna have a good time and make friends. Does anyone have other hostel recommendations or should I just stick with Onefam? , For context, I’m a 27 y/o guy and I typically get along with people in their early to mid-20s

I usually hear about Kabul when it comes to party hostels in BCN but I’ve heard a few things that has me considering staying at one of the OneFam locations. Firstly, I heard it’s mostly 18-21 year olds. I’m 23 so I guess I’m not far out of this range but I would appreciate an abundance of people my age or a bit older. Secondly, I heard it’s basically all guys at this hostel? Making some new mates is obviously something I’d like but I don’t want an entire sausage fest lol.

Are any of the OneFam locations good for partying and socializing or should I just go with Kabul?

26M solo, first time in ibiza, there 6 to 11 sept. im in a flat in ibiza town rather than a hostel because i booked before i properly thought about the social side 🙂

ive got the hostelworld social pass so i can use the city chat and dm people, but from what i can tell i cant book onto hostel hosted stuff without actually staying there.

so is there anything genuinely open to non guests? bar nights, boat trips, walking things, anything. or is the honest answer that i should have just booked the hostel 😛

ive got Armin at UNVRS on the 7th and Garrix at Ushuaia on the 10th, so mostly looking for daytime and the other evenings. no car either.

I'm travelling to Budapest mid October and I'm trying to decide where to stay. I'm coming solo and I want to party a lot, make friends and really have a great time. At the moment I can't really decide weather I should book the Hive or Onefam. Also I'm coming late Saturday (around 23:00h) and I'm trying to find out is it worth going to the city to find a party that will last longer, or should I stay that night?
Also if you have any recommendations throught out the week, like fun activities or good parties let me know. I'm in my mid 20s

Hey Everyone, I am (27M) travelling to Budapest from 12th to 15th of September and staying in onefam Budapest hostel. Anyone else here who is up for meeting and exploring the city together?

I booked a hostel and, after booking, received a message saying that guests aged 49 and over are not allowed to stay there.

They explicitly said there are no exceptions, and that if someone over the age limit shows up, they will be refused check-in and won’t get a refund unless they cancelled within the allowed cancellation period.

I’m under 49, so this doesn’t actually affect my booking. Still, the policy rubbed me the wrong way, so I filed a complaint with the Hungarian Commissioner for Fundamental Rights. I’ve now received an official letter confirming that my complaint has been registered.

Did I do the right thing, or should I have just minded my own business and left the hostel alone?

Hi! I’m going to Malaysia to watch f1 and this is my first solo travel ever. I’m debating if I should book a hotel/airbnd or hostel bc I want to meet other travelers and maximize my travel but I have my cons:

1. I’m a bit messy w/ my stuff I might lose a ring or two
   
2. I move so slow and might inconvenience people w/ using the bathroom
   
3. I’m an introvert (I think I can manage this one)
   
4. I can’t sleep that easily and would prob be up all night
   
5. Fear of safety

As a trans man whose identity documents still identify me as female, travelling as a whole can be a bit uncomfortable and nerve wracking, especially across borders, but what really sucks is when there's no mixed dorm options at hostels. Neither option is great; if I book the men's, and they don't happen to notice my passport gender, great. But almost always they do, and then I have to try and explain in a series of round-about ways without outing myself. I have often then been forced into the female dorm, or, if they are full, they cannot accept my booking, leaving me with only a few hours to find a place. Such, in situations where I can't take this risk, I have to book a female dorm, which is a wholly unpleasant experience. They feel uncomfortable I'm in their space, I feel uncomfortable, no one wins. I've skipped destinations more than once over this, and it really just sucks. Luckily most places have mixed options.

I'm planning a trip to Mexico City for late December/early January and am trying to decide on a hostel. I'll be 32 by then and love a social hostel, so I'm looking for somewhere that attracts mid-20s to mid-30s travelers who love to socialize and do a bit of partying (but nothing insane). Cleanliness is also important to me. Both Apapacho and Casa Pepe seem like good options based on reviews, but I'd love to get some of Reddit's input as well.

hive vs one fam

hiya! i’m going solo in budapest for my bday (just been broken up with so trying to make the best of the time i booked off work lol)

i want to be able to do normal touristy things in the day but im desperate for a guaranteed group to party with on my bday!

i’ve reserved a spot at one fam for now but ive seen the hive party hostel and was wondering if that would be better due to the sheer amount of people that stay there?

i know one fam is more close knit, is it easy to make friends as a solo traveller at the hive too??
