William Gee

Did anyone here go to William Gee back in the day? It has long been demolished and is now a housing estate, seems all that remains is a street named after it.

It was an all boys high school, which had so many funny tales but all seem to be lost to history now.

I went to Appleton primary which backed on to Gee. I remember the kids causing trouble when they got out at dinner. Went to Kelvin also, gangs of Gee kids would just randomly turn up at our break time and dinner just to have fights.

Yeah it was always us vs the Kelvin Hall kids. We were just jealous because you had girls.

Remember kids letting fireworks off down the corridors at Gee. And no one getting off the last bus in the courtyard when it snowed cause everyone was just pelting the bus door with snowballs. Worked with a guy who went when it was Hull Grammar and he said it was a shit hole back then as well.

Remember hating conker season because they were thrown around on the bus at full pelt and they hurt getting one on the back of the head.

Also memories of the bigger kids throwing condoms full of piss out the bus windows at cars.

One time we got a new bus driver that didn’t know the route, foolishly asked one kid for directions and the whole bus had a scenic tour of east hull and we all rocked up to school an hour late.

What was that teachers name that put curses on everyone and cried a lot?

Yeah that’s it! I think it was Creighton

That’s right! Creighton! Weird woman, used to cry at the littlest of things, once ran out of the room blubbing cos she couldn’t find her stapler. Looking back she was probably way too unstable to be teaching, we were fuckin horrible to her though tbf!

Oh yeah absolutely, it was the story all over. None of those teachers were happy because we were such horrible shits. Mr Woods (English teacher) was a really genuinely decent bloke but all I remember is him smacking a kid across the face. Like, full force. But thoroughly deserved.

And Mr Craddock (science) sending us all outside because someone torched the classroom curtains with a Bunsen burner entirely on purpose.

There was also the computer room where they let you play Wolfenstein3D because it was more entertaining than sticking pencils in the cd drives.

Mr Woods and his KitKats, yeah he was one of the good guys. I started in 95 so only had him for a couple of years before he retired, he was replaced by Mr Tong another decent guy.

Towards the end of the 90’s it was as though they couldn’t get any teachers to go work there or even substitutes, there was so many times we were left to our own devices and the whole room ended up in chaos having battles from one side of the room to the other throwing whatever could be found to use as a projectile at each other, flipping desks to make barricades.

Had a reporter from the Daily Mail (national) turn up one morning and told all the lads that she had been to Kelvin already and they said that they was gonna batter us then did the same at Kelvin so everyone went off at lunch to go scrap!

I’m not surprised nobody wanted to work there, it was utterly lawless. I liken it to a prison where the prisoners have taken over.

I doubt any of those people that live in that new estate will know of the shenanigans that went on in the space where they now sit down and have dinner.
