Meta [META] Huge Announcement. Subreddit Overhaul and New Mods! Please Read

Hello! It’s us, your friendly neighbourhood mods here with a HUGE announcement. This is the biggest announcement we have had in a long time so be sure to read the whole post (or just the TLDR at the end if you’re in a rush, it’s ok, we understand, we certainly will not cry in the corner if you don’t read the whole thing) as we have a lot of stuff to go over!

New Rules and Sidebar

“New Rules” might be a bit of a misnomer, they are mostly the same but we reformatted them to make things clearer and to clarify some things that we frequently get asked about/see being an issue on posts and comments. We also redid the sidebar as it had a lot of conflicts and redundant information that the rules already included.

We do want to clarify again though that many of the rules that are being redone/clarified are rules we have had for years. Recently, we added a new mod to the Subreddit, u/RS_Someone, and he has been a massive help in fixing and upgrading the automod and other automation in the Subreddit, which is why many of you may have noticed your recent posts or comments being removed more often for things like low karma. We have had our karma requirements in place for a long time but because the bot was broken, this rule was rarely, if ever, enforced.

We heavily urge you to read the rules and the removal messages that we and the bot put on your posts and comments. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for breaking them!

New Flair System

Now when you are making a post, at the top nav bar you should be able to select a flair just like in other Subreddits. Please be sure to flair your posts appropriately or they will be removed (Unfortunately, there is still no way to edit titles Shakes fist at Reddit and their mods)!

New Comment Requirements

When you are commenting on a [Hiring] post, you MUST either have a portfolio link OR, if you aren’t applying but just making a comment, put [Not For Hire] in your comment. If you are found to be abusing the Not For Hire tag to advertise yourself, we will take action.

New Mods

We have 2 mods that have joined our ranks recently! The first is u/RS_Someone, who has been here for a few months and has given us some major help with our automod bot, modmail, and the modqueue. The second is a much more recent addition, u/muted_shrimp, they just joined our ranks the other day and are an active community member who has made many great contributions to the Subreddit in various posts. Please give them a warm welcome!

If you have been a community member for a long time and wish to help us out and become a moderator as well, please let us know by sending us a message in Modmail or by opening a ticket in our Discord server! Any help is greatly appreciated, even if it’s just reporting posts as a regular user!

Automation

This was mentioned earlier in the post but we have increased our automation a ton over the past few months. What this means:

  1. More posts and comments being flagged and/or removed for breaking the rules with way reduced false positives.
  2. Less spam plaguing the Subreddit as a whole.
  3. Issues are brought to our attention much quicker and at a much better rate.
  4. Less reliance on user reports but please report rule breaking posts or message modmail if you see a rule breaking post that has not been removed yet! Please do not confront scammers/alleged AI users, just report their post and move on, if you confront them it lets them know where they messed up, which means they change tactics and get smarter, making them harder for us to catch! On the other hand, accusing an artist of using AI can be devastating for the artist if you publicly accuse them and are incorrect, please just report them and move on and we will investigate and deal with it!

We do want to reassure you that, although we have heavily increased the automation used on the Subreddit, this does not mean there are no humans looking at Modmail or the Modqueue, or scrolling through the posts in the Subreddit. Most things flagged by our automod are sent to the modqueue as a report rather than being outright removed and many things that are removed are still sent to the modqueue so we can review in case there are any false positives. You can rest assured that there is still a human (or 4!) reviewing your posts, comments, and modmail messages!

Moreover, we are always open to feedback, suggestions, and help. Please feel free to comment on this post or message Modmail with any questions, concerns, ideas, etc that you may have about the automation and anything else mentioned within this post.

Wrapup and TLDR

That’s all for now! Thank you all so much for being here and making this a great community for artists. If you wish to further discuss with your fellow artists, we have a Discord server (that’s actually been around for a long time!) that you can join by following this permanent link: https://discord.gg/4zhjr8D2QA

TLDR:

  • We clarified and reformatted a bunch of the rules and the sidebar.
  • We added flairs to the top nav just like other subs have.
  • Comments on [Hiring] posts MUST have a portfolio link or [Not For Hire] (do not abuse this)
  • We got some new mods! u/RS_Someone and u/muted_shrimp! Please give them a warm welcome in the comments!
  • We added a ton of automation to help us moderate the Subreddit. Posts, comments, and Modmail are still reviewed by us so don’t worry. Please feel free to leave feedback in the comments or in Modmail.

META [META] PSA Regarding Low Karma Removals

Hello artists! Your friendly neighbourhood Miner Moderator Dwarfinator here with some info about the recent low Karma removals as we have been getting a lot of messages about this in Mod Mail.

We have had our Karma rules for a long time, I'm talking literally years, however, at some point our bot broke (and also just may have not been properly programmed in the first place) and as such, it stopped looking for/removing posts and comments from lower Karma users. The intention of the rule and the bot automation was to lessen the amount of bots and spam in the Subreddit, which is why we started counting both types of Karma. This also encourages artists to not just spam their art in every art Subreddit and actually engage with other communities. We just recently fixed and improved the bot (huge shoutout to u/RS_Someone) which is why lower Karma posts are being removed once again. This may seem like it came out of nowhere, but again, we have had this rule in place for a long time and used to have the bot doing this previously.

If you have received that low Karma removal reply on your post/comment by the bot, PLEASE WE BEG YOU TO READ IT IN FULL it explains very clearly why your post was removed and how to check your Karma, both post and comment Karma.

If you have low Karma and want to get more to post here, here are some things you can do to raise your Karma:

  • Post your art in other Subreddits.
  • Post and comment, and genuinely engage in other Subreddits. You like Critical Role or Pokémon or Minecraft? Post in those Subreddits, get involved in the community, you might make some new friends, and you get the added bonus of your account not looking like a bot spammer or someone who just pumps and dumps their art everywhere they can.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment on this post or send us a message via Mod Mail! Happy Arting!

Hiring [Hiring] Vocaloid songwriter looking for someone to draw art cover for songs

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hello, I'm a slightly new Vocaloid songwriter. I'm looking for someone who is good at coming up with unique composition for a song cover.

It's not the type of normal Vocaloid fanart like with Miku, but the type of art that can tell a story, and have many interesting visuals and metaphors to convey the the theme of the song, like the example I used above (Lost One Weeping, Otome Kaibou, Ego Overdose).

The budget is around $40 to $60 per song (preferably $40 by default and $60 for special occasions, I'm a Hikikomori so I can't spend a lot of money)

I'm not good at song songwriting, so I apologize since my songs probably won't sound good. But even so, I will write a lot more songs in the future

I will give the lyrics, and hopefully the artist I commission from can come up with some unique composition draft for the song.

Hiring [Hiring] Artist for multiple projects

Hi there all! (Expecting full transfer of rights $500)

I’m an co-owner of a new private dental practice and wanted to create some cute new marketing materials. Wanted lots of different art works that can be used for social media, information purposes, stickers.

Basically we would give you some ideas of what we want to see and you can hopefully create them!

We do also want to do some short animations as well.

We also wanted to create our own storybook! But that will be a future thing.

We never hired anyone in this way before so would need to learn the process.

We do hope this will be a growing partnership :)

We are looking for an artist that can create art in a cute form? I don’t know how to explain.

Please private me for more details!

Budget wise I’m not sure how much his normally runs.

Hiring [Hiring] Multi-Story Isometric Cutaway Artist — $500 USD

Upvotes

Hi folks 👋🏽 I ’m looking for someone who could create detailed** multi room or maybe levels isometric cutaway environment illustration**s like the attached references.

One continuous, fully furnished, maybe populated, spaces with connected visible rooms, and the roof/front walls removed.

This would be a 1970s solarpunk fantasy corps gala location for my DND campaign. Will provide more references in messages.

My budget is $500 USD. My preferred deadline is September 11, if possible, but I completely understand if that turnaround is too short. If the isometric piece deadline is too short I’d love to at least instead have a few splash background images like the third image added for reference.

No AI-generated artwork or generative-AI assistance, please.

If this is the type of work you do, please share your portfolio, rates, and availability. Thank you!

Thanks guys 🙏🏽

Hiring [Hiring] Looking for an artist for black and white art. Budget Around $150 per Piece

Post image

I'm looking for a fantasy artist to design some shadowdark-esque art for a small gamebook. It will be around 40 pieces, but most look something like this (this is the format we are looking for):

The artist must be really familiar with forest locations and all the monsters that lie within (as there will be a few forest scenes to illustrate).

You can see all the many types of art style we are interested in in the attached image, but generally fairly strong lines and simple shading.

Just post your portfolio below. This should be a really easy project for an artist.

Good luck :)

Hiring [Hiring] Looking for CREATURE (Animal/ Pokemon Like) Artists for Content, budget is around $85 depending on what is made

Hello! right now i posted my mascot for my twitch channel (The purple squid picture) i only have it as badges and it can stay that way im not looking for new badges, but I am looking to have this creature be turned into a full creature (I need to have none of it cut out) with your style change obviously. I'm not trying to tell anyone to copy this previous artists work or style AT ALL, but im looking for something very similar in a cute fun simple style nothing detail.

Im looking to have this character be usable in videos i make and in thumbnails very similar to DougDougs pepper and how he uses it! (picture of orange pepper) so it would be awesome if i could add or have like 3 different styles of eyebrows to portray a lot of different emotionsq with one body.

Thank you!! Only interested if you have creatures/ monsters in a portfolio i dont care for just people right now thank you!

Hiring [HIRING] Traditional 2D Animator - Anastasia-Inspired Wedding Animation $500+

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Hi! I’m looking for a traditional 2D/frame-by-frame animator to create a short animated sequence for my wedding film.

My main visual reference is Anastasia (1997) — romantic 90s hand-drawn animation, elegant human proportions, expressive characters, fluid movement, flowing hair/fabric and a dreamy storybook feel.
The sequence features an animated bride and groom exchanging rings, kissing, growing wings and eventually flying away together. I also need a separate short animation of the bride spinning/twirling.
The characters and artwork will be completely original — Anastasia is purely a reference for the animation style, movement and atmosphere.

If this sounds like your style, I’d love to see your work! Please comment below or DM me with:
Your animation reel/portfolio
Your availability (I’ll need this delivered by Oct 25)

If your work feels like a good fit, I’ll send you the full storyboard and creative brief so we can discuss the project and quote.

Please note that this is a paid project $500-$1300 — excited to find the right animator!

LF longterm manga artist (PAID)

Hello, I am rompopecup. I've been conceptualizing my manga since the beginning of this year, and I've recently discovered exactly what kind of story I want to create. I have finished my first chapters narrative and am working on the script daily. I am looking specifically for manga artists who would like to work on a long term project. It is paid as well as paid fairly as I am not going to lowball my artist and am open to negotiating. I am writing a shonen style manga similar to titles like: Radiant, JJK, Undead Unluck, My Hero, Black Clover and more. Because of this, I reauire the artist to be able to draw in this "style" obviously not to that legendary degree but aesthetically that is what I am looking for (See Radiant's or Undead Unluck's art for a really good example). Preferably, I would like to find someone who enjoys the story I wrote so we could both learn and grow together, but I understand that is very rare and do not expect it. I am 22 and American if that helps. American comic artists (superhero stuff) are welcome but I really don't think I'll be working with one.

I have attached mangas with art styles i really like to show you what Im going for! Please feel encouraged to reply if your artstyle is similar or if you can create one! I really need someone familiar with manga NOT american comics. Please be good with dynamic action scenes as therr will be a lot of fighting.

Similar to JJK and Undead Unluck its a shonen manga set in urban times with an intricate power system.

Feel free to drop your portfolios here or dm them to me on any platform.

For more details on this agreement, and the story, contact me here or on discord:rompopecup

Thank you.

One more thing, i do not support any use of AI. Do not show me AI art, and do not reply to me with AI generated responses. I will not answer.
