Question: General Service Watch for
Hello,
I wanted to ask if this could be an issue. I’m planning to become a combat soldier, or possibly join the Air Force, and I recently bought the Garmin Instinct 3 Solar.
Would it be a problem that I bought the standard version instead of the Tactical Edition? Are the extra features on the Tactical Edition actually important or useful for someone planning to join the military or serve in a combat role?
From what I understand, the Tactical Edition includes several additional features, such as:
Stealth Mode: disables wireless communication and prevents the watch from storing or sharing your GPS position.
Kill Switch: deletes all user data and memory from the device if security becomes an issue.
Night Vision Mode: adjusts the display for use with night vision goggles.
Jumpmaster Mode: designed for calculating release points for military parachuting operations.
Projected Waypoints: allows you to create and navigate to remote locations.
Dual Grid Coordinates: allows you to display two different coordinate systems simultaneously.
Dedicated Tactical Activity: provides tactical-specific activity data.
Rucking Activity: allows you to enter the weight of your backpack for more accurate training data.
Applied Ballistics support/ballistics solver (requires an additional unlock for certain functionality).
Stage Timer.
Besides these features, would the standard Instinct 3 Solar still be perfectly suitable for military training and everyday use in the army?
I’m mainly wondering whether I made a mistake by not getting the Tactical Edition, or if the standard version is already more than enough.
Thanks for your advice!

Am I that old or is this actually allowed now?! I was under the impression that people still drafted with the good ol' G-Shock.

I wouldn't take it with you. You'll spend more time worrying about where you left it than using it.

Why where I left it? Might have not understood properly what you mean but I keep it on my wrist and also it has a battery that lasts for at least a month without counting on solar charging

If things are still the same as they used to be, you'll be told not to wear it because a) you'll be fumbling with it when you should be paying attention and b) you'll try to use it as "an advantage" and it not being IDF standard issue you'll not learn the right procedure rather than using the correct piece of equipment.
Used to have the same issue when people started bringing civilian gps for navigation exercises.

Last century, my friend. I'm old.

Me too, but not quite last century. I was the GPS guy lugging around the AN/PSN-11.

Just buy a regular non-smart watch for the tironut

I mean it has all the functionalities required for the army like the stopwatch easily accessible and displaying the time

Smart watches aren't even allowed in the tironut. They're gonna ask you to take it off as soon as you arrive. It is a waste of money, just buy the normal tironut watch at a ריקושט

Notice to all posters and commenters; please be careful to observe OPSEC (Operational Security) rules. Many people wish to harm Israel and the Jewish Nation as a whole. Be careful when sharing any information on the IDF, bases, weapons, locations of troops, and anything else that can be used to harm Israel. If in doubt, go without. Loose lips sink ships!
