intp's progress is slow unless what

we can all agree as intps that we are slow, or we always opt to do things the "right way"

so I was thinking, is there condition where this trait is disabled and intp actually finish things asap ?

beyond external reasons like deadlines, what are the most things that will make intp - work to ideation rate not so crazy low?

maybe some relationship ? mental condition ?

Are we considered slow?? I feel like people reach out to me for help because I figure things out generally faster than my peers, and always have a way out even when it's not the cleanest. If anything I'm considered hacky but effective, never slow. As for why wouldn't I be particularly interested in solving something quickly:

1. I don't deem it a problem, therefore I feel no need to solve it, thus what I've learned to do is to say no, I'm not helping with that.
2. The desired outcome is unclear, intent doesn't exist. Doing things just for the sake of doing them, will never provide purpose, therefore you don't feel like you are getting closer, and will very quickly lose momentum.

I am a perfectionist, true, but I act in terms of effectiveness (not efficiency, not completeness). I don't know about other INTPs, but I personally don't give a rats ass about the "right way", never in my life have I completed a checklist, nor done math without skipping steps, nor executed a plan without adapting on the go.

Perhaps the problem is trying to complete something the "right way", when the "right way" makes no sense to begin with.

external deadlines yes. I need to obey deadlines that I set myself.

If deadlines enable you to finish tasks, then your problem is likely perfectionism.

my personal best moments were all external necessity related like deadlines, or when I was in (mutual) love

some times substance related, but caffeine is a hit or miss

novelty is also a big motivator

I burnt myself out doing this for the first 35 years of my life, then my kid was born and it just wasnt sustainable.

Then I went thru a phrase of not really caring about anything and half assed a bunch of stuff. Now I am trying to find the happy medium.

Right! Yes! I think a lot of our "inefficient" perfectionist tendencies we can shed overtime when life hits us with reality, otherwise life would be too frustrating hitting too many inconsequential walls.

In specifically work related settings I would say things that are novel challenges or bring potential for novelty (aka good pay). Seeing others attempt to do the work wrong or inefficiently and claiming proficiency. Proving others wrong and showing off your abilities. Situations where we are procrastinating other somewhat more important things. The antithesis would be simple monotonous boring tasks that are thrown onto you, esp. when there are less skilled team members that are fully capable of doing such simple tasks.

I have an issue with the word 'finish.' Finish is a result of simply being very interested in something. It's more of a byproduct of interest and not a goal. Slowness occurs when we are given a task that we don't really have an interest in. When we are interested, action is immediate and compulsive. The 'finished' occurs as a natural result of interest, and not as an actual goal.

We can't. Slowness has nothing to do with the personality types, and being process-oriented is not considered an INTP trait. An INTP will be frustrated with the "right way of doing things" if it doesn't appear to make sense. Then you mention deadlines which leads to the popular topic of this sub, procrastination. Three different topics.

When there are good reasons to finish something asap, a mentally healthy person will do just that.

The condition that you actually, seriously want to do the thing in question, you don't just enjoy imagining yourself as the guy who has accomplished it.

I highly agree that intps are not process driven. but I don't agree that having mental health will make you finish things more.

I think if you want intp to have good mental health you wouldn't ask them from the first place to do tasks
