Academics iwtl how to study?

want to become independent. for which i will have to study. but i dont know how to study and make a career. can someone who has figured this out, or is still figuring help me and teach me how its done. please.

I've been having to study a lot lately for a career path I've decided to pursue in my 30s, after years of never having to and it is hard. It's the discipline of it, you know? Never really learned to study in school bc I got by without it.

Anyway.. you've got to form your own method over time because everyone is different, but my advice is:

Use a pomodoro timer for your study sessions. You can find them online,. youtube, in game form, but it's basically 25 minutes on with 5 minute breaks in-between. There comes a point where you will stop processing information and it's not worth continuing past that.Brain turns to mush for me after about 3 or so hours (some days it's far less, sometimes it's more)

I usually have a material that I'm reading or watching to study from and I use an app on my iPad called Notability which lets me jot down notes. In my own words, I'll write down anything I see that is new to me or that I don't understand. I like to color code important words (if you ever played the old Legend of Zelda games on N64, like that) and I'll draw pictures if it helps.

If you don't want to use Notability, you can do the same with a notepad of course, but I like the app bc I don't need to worry about burning through paper.

There is also a method called the Rubby Ducky Method where you'll take your notes and explain the concept to an object/person/rubber ducky, and there is something about reframing it as telling the info to someone and explaining it/why it is that helps you to internalize it

These few things have let me learn tons, and while I'm no genius here, not using a memory palace or anything, I've found that I've learned a surprising amount.

All in all, it's discipline, and making a daily routine of it. Even if it's just half an hour per day, just do it daily.
