Seeking Asylum
As an American, I am seeking asylum somewhere else. Me, my 2 kids ( 19 years and 16 months) and my parents. Most of us are queer. How do I even begin this? Where do I go? What's the best option?? We are absolutely TERRIFIED to stay here any longer. Please!!! We need help!! We're in America. We're thinking Italy or Greece would be our best options, but we honestly have no idea. If anyone has any advice for us, please help!! We need to leave here ASAP 😭 I have a home and cars to sell as a means to live for awhile.

I’m not saying this to be a shithead - America is considered one of the best countries to be lgtbq in. You will not get asylum for being queer. You will end up in detention instead.

Ill give a serious answer.
The refugee convention gives you a right to seek asylum, if you are persecuted by a government actor based on your queer status or that your national government is unable or unwilling to offer you protection.
Persecution is defined as something that is above mere discrimination but below the threshold of torture.
A common principle in asylum laws is that if you can find safety by internal relocation, you must do so first. Even if your fear of persecution is valid, you will probably fail at this given that there are many places in the US that are LGBT friendly.

That's not how asylum works. You don't get to pick where to go, you go the the first 'safe' place that you can. In any case, if you tell any consular officer anywhere in the world that you're fleeing the US, you'll be laughed out of the office. People around the world have legit asylum claims, you don't.

More severe claims, yes.. Are we still on danger here? Also, yes. It's not even just being queer. It's being a woman that's the scariest part living in America to me.

The US is not the best place to live and hasn't been for a while. I believe Nordic countries often tend to be some of best rated for standard of living and general happiness.
There are definitely worse places to live, but the US has some significant issues.

The US is far from the best place for queer people.
This site has the USA as 37 out of nearly 200 on the World Equality Index.
So there are a lot of worse options, but there are also plenty of places with much better legal and cultural protections.
