Asking for help/advice 26m, short and on the spectrum. Not really sure what to do anymore
I've tried therapy, meds, meetup groups, hobby classes, volunteering, and etc etc. With some success as far as cultivating social skills and emotional regulation. But I'm still very lonely, and sad often if not most of the time. It just feels pretty hopeless to make friends, let alone score a date lately.
I have had a problem with being too passive and not really taking the initiative to approach in the past, but whenever I introduce myself or try to take up some space in a group I'm part of nobody is really receptive. I always feel ignored or the lowest priority of a social circle. Friendships that I've had for years don't really look like the friendships I see them have with others. It's like nobody is really interested in me that much, like I'm welcome, but not really invited is the best way to describe it? People talk to me like I'm a child or dumb, which I guess I am developmentally delayed but damn, I'm still a adult with interiority and emotions.
Nobody sees me as a sexual being either it feels like, nobody has genuinely shown interest or reciprocated interest, women I know treat me as their "trusted gay friend" or "little brother" which feels nice platonically but I want more sometimes. When I ask for dating advice I get told that I'm good looking and a good guy, but when I ask if they know anybody they could introduce me to, they "don't know any single friends" (they know plenty, they're just not into me) so it feels very dishonest to me.
It feels like I'm just a dud, I can't imagine ever finding love or even just a social circle I feel like I belong in. I just feel very stuck and uncertain about the future, and the possibility of being single for the foreseeable future scares me.
Could anybody share some wisdom or advice, preferably something other than the empty platitudes Im normally met with when I ask for dating advice?
