I’m based in Norway and looking for a part-time remote job in IT/cybersecurity.

Is it possible to work remotely for a company abroad while living in Norway? I’m mainly looking for entry-level roles like IT support, helpdesk, SOC or similar.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, so if anyone knows good websites, companies, groups or communities for international remote jobs, I’d really appreciate recommendations!

I’m currently working using some BPM software. They demand us to upgrade continuously. From patch version which they release once every quarter. Parallelly, they have major release which client eventually would want to upgrade to. This major release require much longer runway as it would impact many things including how developer build their codes.

At least twice every quarter they will share security vulnerability at random severity. Sometimes high sometimes critical sometimes medium. And what I think unacceptable is they only provide the fixes for the latest patch version. And if it is high and critical we need to comply within 30 days.

The problem with our side is we would need to do regression testing for our application whether its for patch release or major release. At the same time we would have operational fixes, on-going enhancement etc. If we are doing upgrade, it would impact overall operations. If we don’t do upgrade they won’t provide fix for security vulnerability.

Want to ask:
1. Is this common practice for packaged BPM software?
2. If you have similar experience how do you manage it?

I recently got a job offer for an IT Systems Engineer role at an IT solutions company. The role is mainly focused on ManageEngine products, including implementation, configuration, technical support, system integration, training, and troubleshooting.

My long-term goal is to become a Network Engineer, and eventually move into Network Security.

For those with experience in the industry:

Would starting in a ManageEngine-focused IT Systems Engineer role make it realistically possible to transition into Network Engineering later, and then into Network Security?

Or would it be better to look specifically for a Junior Network Engineer / NOC position from the beginning?

I already have a networking background and I'm currently working on strengthening my CCNA/networking skills.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has experience with ManageEngine or has made a similar career transition.

I’ve been working in IT for about 30 years. At this point, I’m a senior tech at a midsize organization working on the backend; servers, networking that sort of thing. I’d really gotten kind of burned out on Frontline Support.
Now I’m getting ready to retire and I’ve been meeting a lot of new people, people who are already retired. It always starts out great, until they find out that I work in IT.
Then all of a sudden, the only topic of conversation is their struggles with their phones and their TVs and their computers, and not understanding the Internet.
At that point it seems like they don’t see my personality anymore, they just see my role. Worse, they seem to expect that I am going to own all of their struggles.
This is very frustrating to me. I can’t be the only one who’s experienced this.
I’d love to hear how other people have handled this. My hope is to dodge making this part of every relationship. When I retire, I really don’t wanna think about what I did for work all my life anymore. It was a good career choice, but I’m pretty bloody sick of it to be honest.

Hi! I’m a college IT student, and I have a web-based system that I made for a school project.

I’m thinking of selling the source code for around ₱300-₱500, as-is. Just to be clear, it’s not a professional or production-ready system. It works, but there are still things that could be improved, and it was mainly made to fulfill a school requirement.

I’m not expecting a lot from it. I’m just wondering if something like this is something people would actually buy, even at a low price like ₱500.

Would ₱500 be reasonable for a student-made project/source code that’s being sold as-is?

Tldr; i'm hoping to find out what people are actually doing to familiarize themselves with agentic workflows in the real world.

As stated I'm hoping to understand or I guess get a better idea as to what people are actually doing with local AI and agentic workflows in order to familiarize yourself with these things and stay on top of the technology. I fancy myself a pretty robust systems/network engineer, I have a relatively strong home lab with many hosted services that my family and I utilize alongside several public sites that we use for business purposes as my wife owns a bake shop.

In the past I felt that I have stayed up on new technologies without much issue, most of my lab runs on docker but previously ran on k8s, I have enterprise switching and routing platforms all of the things I don't wanna get too far into that but, I've been struggling with getting as deep into AI as I would like to.

Regarding hardware I have a fairly strong desktop with an RTX 5070, early on in the local AI model discussion I was using crew AI building agents but at the time it wasn't super fruitful mostly just like having multiple chat bots that talks to each other but there wasn't a really good way for me to leverage that so I moved toward Gemini/ChatGPT for my average chat experience.

MCP has come along, and open claw, and Hermes, but whenever I dive into these things I struggle and I think it's because all of my personal problems are solved, I have my workflow in place for all of my gear, my services stay up-to-date, I guess maybe I just need some inspiration but I've been really struggling to get a set up in place that I think accomplishes what I want to accomplish. There's a lot of hype on the YouTube and it seems like a lot of the projects that these content creators are pushing aren't really realistic for the average lab or even for the robust lab, I don't know I guess I'm just looking for some ideas. How can I best leverage my system while using local AI and a harness like Hermes to actually build something meaningful?

Ever since people found out I work in IT, I swear I became the tech support person for everyone I know.

My family will message me with things like, The internet is not working, can you fix it?That is literally all the information I get.

No screenshot. No error message. Sometimes they don’t even know what device is having the problem.

I have gotten so used to it that I now start with a list of questions before I even try to help. What device? What exactly is happening? When did it start? Is anything else connected?

Sometimes the issue ends up being something as simple as restarting the router.

Anyone else in IT become the unofficial family help desk?

I'm a desktop support tech working in an enterprise level environment supporting probably a 200-300 hundred users. It seems we're constantly having to replace users laptops and also replace laptops we just issued that are brand new.

I understand replacing laptops that have reach its life cycle on the floor (3-4 years). We also reimage laptops and cycle them back out to different users which probably doesn't help. I'm not sure how old some the ones we reimage are.

Currently, my company uses a combination of Dell Latitude models and started receiving Pro 14/16 Plus models. I own a Dell Latitude 5420 for my personal laptop and have no issues with it. I assume we have bad images that are being put on the devices and all the security measures from cyber bloat our company's laptops.

This is my first IT job, so I don't have a measure on how often laptops should be replaced or rather the number of replacements. Having worked in offices on the user side, rarely did I see my teammates laptops needing to be replaced. So, how often are you replacing your users laptops?

Edit: How many laptops in a week do you replace? After a quick spot check, it seems we replace 20-25 laptops a month. Is that high? To put it into perspective, that's a laptop a day basically if you only count the work days in a given month.

Hope I’m in the right sub! So I’ll be starting a new wfh job on Monday and the requirements include a Win 11 Pro in 26H1. My dumbass followed some YT tutorial and I got lost in the middle. Now I’m stuck with the Blue Recovery screen that I can’t do anything else about. Some searching says I need at least a USB stick and another pc but I’ve been running on 4 hours of sleep for weeks. Should I just bring this to a pc shop? Do they have the required version or is it really super hard to find? Thank you 🥺😭

Retired parent wants to test out “how can it be illegal if they sell” streaming box. Can’t set up a guest network afaik with spectrum router, so the box will be on the same network as all the other devices in the house. Any best practices to protect against what is seemingly a malware box? Im admittedly uninformed but know enough to know these things can be a security risk. Thanks

I have an offer in hand for a Senior Infrastructure Analyst in a hospital. This environment includes VMware infra with HPE nimble SAN and role is mostly project work and 20-30% escalations for infra related tickets. Team also has a senior networking specialist so role will be focused purely on managing server infra, role also has plan to migrate to cloud with long term plan to completely go cloud and remove on prem AD dependency as well. In terms of pay this new role pays 20% more than current role but also has HOOPP pension plan as role is based in ON, CA
