Wawanesa question

California first-offense cell phone citation (VC 23123(a)) — zero DMV points per VC 12810.3. Does this affect insurance rating or Good Driver Discount status (CA Ins. Code 1861.025) in practice, or is it purely non-chargeable since no point is generated? Any actual underwriters know how this plays out in practice?

In California, a cell phone ticket will not raise your rates. Will not need to worry about it

It depends on the insurance company. They can see the violation on your driving record.

It does not affect the Good Driver discount eligibility.

Whether or not your policy will be surcharged, I don’t know.

The first one does not incur a CA DMV point. The second and subsequent violation within 36 does.

In Ontario Canada it is a major offence as it should be everywhere.

Penalties for Fully Licensed Drivers (Class A–G)
First Conviction: Fine of $615 (up to $1,000 if fought in court), 3 demerit points, and a 3-day license suspension.

Second Conviction: Fine of up to $2,000, 6 demerit points, and a 7-day license suspension.

Third and Subsequent Convictions: Fine of up to $3,000, 6 demerit points, and a 30-day license suspension.

There are also the License reinstatement charges and insurance implications.

Ontario also has a $100,000 liability limit and very few companies will write a policy less than $200,000. This does not include any damage to any other vehicle with is covered under DCPD.

I was pointing out some other areas. More areas should be like Ontario.

Trump even blames Canada for things that happen in Ontario California
