A special shout out to the people of Gary, Indiana, Janetβs hometown, who are experiencing a power outage that has been going on for over a week now with no real media coverage.
I remember when Janet returned to Gary during her documentary to see the humble way in which her family lived, and the roots of the poverty they came from.
The situation in Gary is reminding me of the situation in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina, except this time, instead of water, it is electricity.
Like Janet said on her Unbreakable album on the song, βShoulda Known Betterβ:
Part of the revolution
Ready for real solutions
We won't accept excuses
We tolerate no abuses
'Cause I don't want my face to be
That poster child for being naive
Why, why, why, why?
I guess I shoulda known better
Why, why, why, why?
I guess I shoulda known better
I had this great epiphany
And rhythm nation was the dream
I guess next time I'll know better
