Community I get so lonely and the Velvet rooe

When listening to her masterpiece the velvet rope- the sound was unique and influential, smooth and warm, and one of the highlights of it is the so lonely song. love it- it somehow feels MJB coded tho, i’m not saying she copied or something close to that, and it is just r&b- but i wonder what were JJs inspirations? what was hers and marys relationship? and if someone also heard the connection
