Hi guys, I just bought my first car ever - 2017 se 1.4 with 128k miles. What should I do to keep it maintained and make sure it can last long? Anything I should know? I already plan to get a cold air intake. Any advice/recommendations/tips etc welcome

Context, I feel I should start a buy back in my 2024 Jetta. I've had head gasket, transmission replaced, steering wheel , evap sensor, and an axle.

Only the evap has been a "code" which caused things to pile on top.

Took car to dealer for evap. Dealer "noticed" a "drip" from head gasket, which they replaced (8-2024, I thought I was cleared from recall) fixed on a Friday and it was weird cause my car kept saying door open, locked then unlocked past 6 Pm

So they had to remove right axle to do the gasket job. Months later, axle popped off, couldn't drive it and screeching grind from Trans. Techs "tested it" by putting in drive , revving then into park. So they got a new axle installed. Weeks later, trans over heated, wouldn't shift past 6th for 50 miles, and now trans is replaced. (My guess, Axle popping out, caused internal metal damage, plugged non service filter, overheated, and caused damage??)

Cruise control, disengages every now and then and VW said replace steering wheel, we'll see if it's fixed. Livable issue but I'd like my car to work?

My question is. Maybe now it's all fixed ? I'm 1,000 miles away from warranty end. Worth it to keep it? jump into a 2026? Or just jump ship all together ??

I have most tools that could be needed, but if there’s welding involved, that’s out. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

To add to this, I cleared the code in case it was an error and both times it came back on within a few days.

Hey all! I’m looking to buy a used VW Jetta, model year 2019 or newer, and my priorities are comfortable highway driving and reliability.

For those who own or have owned a Jetta 2019 or newer:

1. Which model year/ trim/ engine configurations would you recommend and which ones to avoid?
2. What years have better reliability records?
3. How has yours held up with high-mileage highway driving?
4. Any major issues after 50k, 75k, or 100k miles as long as maintenance is performed on time?
5. Anything I should pay particular attention to when inspecting a used one?

Coolant light is flashing and beeping when car is started. Coolant levels are good no leaks. Thoughts? VW Jetta 2016. Only happens sometimes. It’s very random. Seems like it happens after the car has been sitting for over 12 hrs

I’m going crazy trying to decide which sub enclosure to get for my 2025 SE. I need it to allow access to my spare tire, but there are so many options. I’d like suggestions on brand or size, and I’m even considering an under-seat option, though they don’t deliver the full bass spectrum. I listen to all kinds of music.

I need some expert advice, please. I have a 2019 Jetta. The car will not start when left out in the heat/hot sun.  Sometimes the car will start for about 10 to 20 seconds before the air conditioning and the electronics start shutting down, then a message appears saying, Starter System Faulty.  The engine will continue to run, but the car is not drivable.  As long as the car is parked in the garage and out of the heat, it will start and run fine.  There is an active recall for the 2019 Jetta for this exact issue (NHTSA Recall 28H7), which was determined to be a faulty ignition switch; however, this Jetta falls outside of the production months that were covered in the recall by a couple of months and Volkswagen says they will not cover it, even though a mechanic determined it was the same issue. I think Volkswagen should cover it, but that’s something out of my control. The private shop Im using specializes in European automobiles and says they need to order a lock cylinder for ignition starter switch with read coil, without key and a steering lock, which I assume is the complete ignition switch assembly. He says this item is only available from Volkswagen in Germany and could take six weeks to receive the part because they have to custom configure it to work with the existing immobilizer chip and key. Can someone please confirm if this all this is accurate? Do both parts mentioned have to be replaced
? Are there any alternatives or other ways to get this part? Can a Volkswagen dealership get the parts faster than a private mechanic? I’m willing to accept whatever the outcome is and know it’s not going to be cheap. I just want to be sure I’m taking the best path forward since it’s going to suck not being able to get this car back for weeks. If anyone can offer any expertise, I would greatly appreciate it appreciate it! Thanks!

I bought this car end of June / early July. When I got it, it smelled like it was cleaned, didn't come with floor mats. I just assumed that VW now charges for mats and this was a no option car.

A week later I notice the vent panel looks dirty, so I use my interior detailer, cleaned it. It looked black after cleaning, but a day or two later whatever this is keeps coming back.

I replaced the cabin air filter, wiped it off, still came back.

Can somebody tell me what this is?

Hi all, I reversed into my fence gate this morning by accident and it took a chunk off my bumper. Can anybody estimate how much something like this to be? I dont know much about cars / this is my first car so im not sure if the type of car matters but its a Jetta volkswagen 2010. Thank you :)

I’ve seen some Jetta’s that are tuned and deleted that can get up to 57 mpgs.

That begs the question, if anyone here has heard or knows if these engines can run on homemade diesel fuel out of heavily filtered used motor mixed with gas.

I own a 2015 Jetta auto transmission with 155K. Recently, it developed a aggressive jerk in and out of fourth gear after it reaches temperature.(40+ min drive). I don’t have service record that the trans have been serviced so I’m kind of scared to drain and fill. I have an OBD 11 and I got no codes. also changed all the mounts.

Not really sure where to go from here. Looking at my options.

1) drain and fill see what happens

2)sell it and cut my loses

3) bring it to a shop for diagnostic (don’t have a shop that I trust so I was thinking dealership, but don’t love that idea)

Please let me know what you guys recommend and if any of you guys deal with a similar situation thank you in advance

Recently replaced my wastegate actuator and calibrated it. Keep getting P2263 code now. Anyone ever dealt with this?I drove it for months without calibrating it, but I felt there was a lag in the turbo. Finally saved up for a bidirectional scanner so I calibrated it and it was great for a few miles, but then the EPC light came on.

The infotainment system had been occasionally freezing and restarting by itself for the last 2-3 months until 2 days ago, it went completely black. Simultaneously, an SOS light appeared on the dashboard. The dealer has ordered a new infotainment control module (J794), but it is on backorder without an ETA. Luckily, it is covered by the warranty, and I can drive the car while waiting for the replacement module. The backup camera is still working. Based on googling, this is a known issue, which might have been caused by one of the recent over-the-air software updates. An important takeaway is to not do any over-the-air software updates when out of warranty.

Ive had a knocking sound when I go over small bumps my car handles okay but isnt aligned after two amignments ive replaced the lower control arms ball joints and outer tierods someone help

Hi all. I got my Jetta at the end of last September (almost a year now!) And I decided I wanted to try and switch away from using streaming. I've been ripping CDs and putting the music onto a 64gb sandisk USB-C stick.

Realized the hard way after getting a decent amount of music that was formatted as m4a files that the infotainment system doesn't seem to like that. So I converted them to mp3s and now those work. But I've since continued ripping my CDs into flac files and now those aren't being read.

I checked the owners manual and it claims that it can read flac files so I'm not sure what the issue is? Doing a little more research it seems like people were saying to format the drive as exfat. So I went and switched it to exfat and it still doesn't seem to load the flac files still. Am I missing something or is the manual/the internet wrong and I'm stuck with mp3s?

Hey y'all I recently bought a used 2014 Jetta and everything is looking good and working great, but I have heard that German cars tend to run well and be reliable *IF* you follow strict maintenance and take good care of them. So I would like to get on top of that now before it becomes an issue.

The car has about 155k miles and I know I need to change the oil soon. I was told I might need to get something different from whatever bog-standard oil most auto shops use, is that true? If yes, what would you recommend. Beyond that, is there any other kinds of regular maintenance I should keep aware of or anything to keep an eye on that could be an issue soon?

The guy I bought it from seemed very conscientious of it and seemed to have taken at least decent care of it.​ He thought that the next thing to go might be the spark plugs but I they should be fine for at least a little while.

I live in Provo, Utah so things are pretty dry and dusty now and there might be a lot of snow in the winter if that matters.

Hey everyone. I’m new here. I’m having issues with a Jetta that was given to me. I had a Wastegate actuator code. Got a new actuator online and put it and now I have more codes. I don’t have a lot of money and need the check engine codes gone before I can get it inspected. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just had my 2010 Jetta into an independent shop for A/C diagnosis and repair. (There are no VW dealers within 80 miles of me.) A/C has been slow to blow cold for quite a while; I have to drive the car a mile or two down the road before I feel the air start to get cool. It has been fine after that; fine on a road trip for example. Just that slow start.

I read here previously about the plug-in compressor valve (that acts on an electrical signal to activate the compressor) on the Sanden compressors failing and causing this type of problem, so I had ordered one a while back. It's a $25 part. I left that with the shop and told them to install it if needed or if they disassembled things enough that they easily could. They did not do so.

They told me that the compressor needs replaced and quoted me a price of almost $1700. I asked if they installed the compressor valve I left with them and they said they did not. I asked if they had definitively determined that the compressor was failing? They said they had.

I'm not getting it fixed at this time. Not for that price, until I shop this around a bit. So I'm looking at the shop bill they wrote up, and it says:

System was slightly low on refrigerant; recharged and checked system function. After recharging, no compressor function was found. Tested signal to valve on compressor and signal was present. Recommend replacing compressor and retesting.

That description sounds to me like exactly what a failing compressor valve would (or could) do . . . am I wrong? It doesn't sound to me like they actually ruled out a simple $25 part before telling me to replace the entire compressor.

Anybody else have thoughts on this?

I was driving my jetta few weeks ago and noticed rpm would bounce when i’m at a light & woudl jerk intermittent. Long story short Engine light came on, I scanned it(1st pic) and it showed 00010 camshaft position issue and ecm. Brought it to the mechanic and they replaced my vvt solenoid. Fast forward today, i was driving my car and noticed it started doing the same thing again, scanned it 000017&10(2nd pic) popped up again. Could the issue be the solenoid again? Pls help. I’m at 200k miles on this vehicle and i’m having the same issues over and over
