You have no idea how much I appreciate hearing how happy she looks, how she had a good life and how people understand this grief. This is the worst pain. But the 9 years with my girl were worth it. And I hope I can figure out a good way to honor her memory going forward. 🤍🤍🤍

I rescued my girl Luna from a meat farm in Korea back in 2017.

My fiancée (at the time) and I had another dog already and Luna fit right in. She was a scrappy little thing who had a lot of quirks I learned about. I later married that man, and he wasn’t great… to say the least. But through it all, Luna was there. She protected me, let me hug her for as long as I needed and always wanted to be close by. When she was 3, I left my ex husband and she and I started over across the country in a new place.

We went on new hiking trails every weekend, daily long walks, I took her to pet stores and she picked out her own toys, we had “drive thru” days where we’d go to the bank (she’d get a treat), go get gas (she’d get a treat) and go get coffee and a pup cup. She was such a happy dog. She didn’t trust most people and was pretty anxious, but not with me.

When I met my current partner 3 years ago I knew he was a good one, because Luna didn’t bark at him the first time they met, she loved him too.

She went everywhere with me. We took day trips to the beach all of the time. She went on almost every vacation with me. We went on a vacation a few weeks ago to a treehouse out in the middle of the forest where she could free roam and explore. And then we went to the beach. She got an unsalted plain burger patty on the way home as a special treat.

A week later she was gone. She was fine one day on our daily walk and the next day had a little cough, after 2 back to back days at the emergency hospital, (she had pneumonia and was being hospitalized) her lung collapsed and she died. She was nine. I was there with her for hours sitting on the floor and petting her head. She seemed okay so I left to get a few hours of sleep. By the time I got home, the vet called me and said they were doing chest compressions and I rushed back. They were still doing chest compressions when I got there and after a round I told them they could stop. And she died. I couldn’t believe it.

It’s been a couple of weeks and I feel so empty and lost without her. She was part of my daily routine, she was a constant anchor and let me know if anything suspicious was going on (aka if anyone talked too loudly near our door or patio) she was the best dog and I hadn’t even started thinking about life without her. I thought we had years. The doctors assured me there was nothing else I could have done, I got her in before they could even see anything on X-rays or an ultrasound and her blood work was normal, 24 hours later it wasn’t and they could see the pneumonia.

I miss her so much. My heart is so broken. I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced grief quite like this before.

I just wanted to share her picture because it feels weird not talking about her or posting her pictures.

I think one day I’d like to rescue another dog like Luna and watch them bloom into the best version of themselves just like she did.

Back in March, I thought I had found my forever family, but sadly, they didn’t fully understand my sensitive, skittish nature. Luckily, I didn’t lose hope because a kind and patient foster family opened their home and hearts to me. With their love and care, I’ve truly begun to blossom. I’m a sweet, gentle, and affectionate girl with a soft heart. Once I feel safe, I love being close to my person and have recently started asking for pets with adorable little nose nudges.

My personality is really starting to shine. I can be playful, a little goofy, and quite intelligent. I love being near my people and feel most comfortable when I can keep them in sight, especially in new environments.

🐶 MY SOCIAL SKILLS 🐶
· With People: I can be shy when meeting new people, but I’ve made amazing progress. Instead of running away, I now show curiosity and will approach to observe. I’ve even come close to taking treats from new people! With patience and a calm approach, I continue to build trust and confidence.

· With Dogs: I get along well with other dogs and have recently started approaching calm, gentle dogs on my own. I enjoy their company and sometimes follow them, but I’m also gaining confidence to explore independently.

· With Cats: I don’t have much experience yet, but with my gentle nature, I’m likely to do well with slow and proper introductions.

⚡️ ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY ⚡️
I have a moderate energy level. I enjoy my walks and have become much more relaxed—I now look around, take things in, and even “smile” while exploring. I have a good off switch once inside.

I LOVE my ball! I don’t always need to fetch and I’m happiest just carrying it around, playing on my own, and being silly. I also love running around in the dog park.

🧠 TRAINING & HABITS 🧠
I’m a very well-mannered girl at home. I don’t get into food, counters, or garbage—even when left alone. I can be trusted in the house and do very well when home alone.

The only thing I might do is shred paper or cardboard if it’s within reach.

I may alert bark when I hear noises in the hallway, but I respond well to gentle redirection and am already improving.

I’m also gaining confidence in new environments—recently, I even started taking treats in the elevator, which is a big step for me!

Car rides can be a bit challenging for me. I’ve experienced motion sickness before, so it’s best if I travel on an empty stomach. I may drool during rides, but it's been quite a while since I last drooled! For longer trips, a vet-recommended motion aid (like Gravol) may help. With continued positive experiences, I’m expected to get more comfortable over time.

I’ve only been off-leash in fully fenced areas. I have very low prey drive and tend to stay close to my person. With proper recall training, I have great potential for safe off-leash time.

🏡 MY IDEAL HOME 🏡

I’m looking for a patient and understanding family who will let me adjust at my own pace.

I can do well as the only pet, but I would truly thrive in a home with a friendly, calm, and confident dog who can help guide me and build my confidence.

A quieter home or one that respects my sensitive nature would be perfect for me.

My previous adoption didn’t work out because I was rushed before I was ready—I had only been there for 7 weeks. I’m a dog who needs time, but I promise I’m worth it.

I’ve already made incredible progress in foster care. I’m braver, more curious, and more affectionate every day.

With love, patience, and understanding, I will blossom into an incredibly loyal, gentle, and loving companion.

We adopted a rescue jindo mix two weeks ago and she’s doing incredible at home - our main concern is her insane prey drive. I understand that prey drive can’t be trained out of a dog, as it’s in her nature and she’s 3 years old already and most likely had to hunt before being rescued.
When we go on walks, she’s constantly scanning for squirrels, rabbits, mice, etc.. The beginning and end of our walks when we’re very close to home she does great with being focused on us, accepting treats and focusing. However, she is very stubborn on having to go certain ways, and will plant herself heavily and pull hard to get her way, and we’re worried about her hurting herself. We’ve tried using a harness with a connector to her regular leash, but if she’s in the harness she won’t walk. Once there’s a chance of wildlife being nearby, it’s like we don’t exist. She doesn’t respond to her name, of course doesn’t accept food, we’ll stop when she starts pulling, but then she just pulls more or won’t budge. We live in a condo in a city, so our only way of exercising her/bathroom breaks are to take her on walks. Unfortunately, no matter which direction we go there are distractions of squirrels and whatnot, so avoiding them isn’t exactly possible. Our goal is not to have her off-leash, as this won’t be possible for a very long time. We just want her to learn to focus on us when we’re walking her on leash for her safety. She’ll try to hop off the sidewalk on to the road if she sees something across the street, and again doesn’t care about us whatsoever once she’s locked in.
Looking for advice on how to manage this, as we don’t have many options for practicing in low distraction environments.

Appreciate anyone sharing your experience or knowledge of introducing a new, young female Jindo to our home with a few years old Male Jindo as the only dog or pet currently. Thanks!

I posted about Sky a few months ago. She has definitely opened up a lot since then. We also brought home her brother Moojin from the same rescue (pictured in the last two photos).

Sky likes: dog parks, off-leash hours, grass, freeze dried chicken hearts, burying her food and treats with blankets, car rides, boy dogs

Sky has a fear of: motorcycles, fireworks, toddlers

Moojin lets her lead the way on walks, and they play a bit of cat and mouse at the park. They’re sweet together. Sky’s dna test showed that she is kvd, cocker spaniel, min-pin, Maltese, and Japanese spitz.

Maru’s Story

Maru was found wandering along the roadside with his mama. A kind passerby began feeding them, but sadly, neighbors reported them to the city shelter. These shelters are known for euthanizing dogs after only seven days.

Thankfully, a rescue stepped in just in time and saved both Maru and his mom. Because of his past, Maru didn’t have much early human interaction, which explains his initial shyness. But with patience and love, he has been steadily learning what it means to feel safe.

Adoption Requirements & Responsibilities

To be considered for adoption, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a resident of the United States

• Must be at least 24 years old (valid driver’s license or passport required)

• All children in the household must be age 6 or older

• Rental applicants must confirm there are no breed, size, or pet restrictions from their landlord

• Must provide photos of the home, including bedrooms and main living areas

• Must be financially prepared to provide lifelong care for your dog

• Must agree to provide post-adoption updates, including through Instagram when requested

Rescue says Teddy is a Jindo/terrier mix. Looks like that's a good guess, but thought I'd ask here. Thanks!

My wife and I recently adopted this guy from a shelter in Korea and they just told us he was a mixed breed (믹스견) so we assumed Korean village dog. But as he is getting bigger we can't decide if we are right or not. Logically he is, but thought some experts on here might confirm it for us. Thanks in advance!

My 8 year old female Jindo has had the worst coat blow out. Every year I swear she’s molting because her undercoat comes out completely and she looks so bare without it. Anyone else feel like their Jindo has lost too much fur this time of year?

3 amazing months she is so cuddly and sweet

Shes so smart and learned basic commands within a week of being home.

Adjusted to living with another dog very well. They are now best friends. Easily the best decision we made was rescuing this angel.

Hi everyone, adopted a 6 month old street rescued jindo 3 weeks ago.

First 1.5 weeks was amazing, came out of his shell on day 2, knew the way around the condo, sat in the elevator and brought me to his park next door which he knew was his spot. Loving, cuddly, etc.

Something changed this week. For the last 5 days he’s decided he won’t leave, I don’t know if something happened or set him off outside? I live in Toronto but he was completely fine with it before. Playing at the park, etc.

Now he stands his ground and digs his heels in when I open the door. I let him use pads inside for 2 days. And for the last 3 I’ve been picking him up and taking him to the elevator, which he then will go outside with me and lead the way if I put him in front of the elevator (maybe because he knows there’s no option)

But as soon as we get to the park and he does his business, he won’t come with me back home. I have to pick him up part of the way to exit the park, and then once again he leads me back home when I put him down about 50 metres away from the park.

I’ve tried waiting till he’s ready or redirecting or alternate paths, but he never budges, it’s like there’s invisible walls or something.

Anyone experience this or know what I can do? A longer leash work maybe? Training? Anxiety meds?

So I got these, which cost more than my own shoes, because well I don’t want him stepping on things he shouldn’t in the city should we go on a walk. Anyone else purchased RifRuf for their pups? What are your thoughts?

When I got him many years ago at the pound I thought he was a lab/husky mix (he looks exactly like my former dog who I know was a lab husky mix) and didn’t even know what a jindo was. My Korean girlfriend immediately thought he was a jindo when she met him. Either way he is a goofy good boy.

She’s seriously one of the cutest creatures I’ve ever seen and I’m still in amazement that I get to love with this little fox.

The last picture is a rare meetup of the three Korean rescues in our park. All equally aloof 😂
